PART 15
As she watched the family below her she felt that ache she carried in her heart deepen, she didn't know what she expected, but this was certainly not it. She had come to talk to her sister, to let her know that she was sorry she hadn't talked to as soon as her parents had informed her of who Shilpa really was. But she was not in the state of mind to address that relationship, not when her marriage was crumbling. And once that had concluded she had found out that Shilpa had left Sanjeevani and she had taken that as a message to mean that her sister no longer cared about her, no longer wanted to know her. And she couldn't even blame her, she hadn't wanted to know herself either. She knew she should turn around and walk away and disappear, but she needed to make sure that that woman really was Shilpa. Because if it wasn't then she still had to finish what she had come here to do. But she had never imagined she would see him again. She had hoped, she had prayed, but she had been convinced it would never come to be. After all that had happened she didn't deserve it and she knew it. But once again that thing he used to laugh about so much, the thing that had brought them together so long ago, and what he loved to claim played a role in his falling for her interefered once again. Destiny. What else but destiny could be the reason that she had suddenly pulled over for a spur of the moment stroll in a park that she didn't even knew existed. It was destiny that made her hear that laugh, and it was destiny that had her standing here soaking as much of him up as she could. Before it was too late and she missed out.
Riddhima was so engrossed in trying to soak up Sid after not seeing him for over three years that she didn't hear her phone ringing at first. It was the third ring that finally broke her out of the trance. She had answered the phone automatically and listened as a stranger told her that the Dr. Shilpa Malhotra was returning sooner than they had thought and would be in office the day after next if she wanted to make an appointment. Riddhima declined and said she would call back when she had a better idea on her schedule. She remembered how her fingers had scrolled through the directory of M's and how it had automatically stopped when it hit, Dr. Siddhant Modi, how her fingers had caressed it as though it were his soft cheeks. And she knew she wouldn't be able to go to that hospital, that she would have to have her words with Shilpa at a place that wasn't the hospital. Because she didn't want to accidentally run into Sid, she didn't want to put him through anything more. It took a second for Riddhima to realize that with Shilpa out of town the woman standing below with Sid couldn't be her. If Shilpa is out of town for another day, then who is that woman down there? Who is with Siddhant? He looks so happy. I want him to be happy, I mean that is why I... Before Ridz could finish her thoughts the woman she was staring at finally turned her head and she got a glimpse at the woman who was with Sid. She expected to recognize her, but to her surprise she didn't recognize her. Upon seeing her she immediately knew how Sid could have fallen for her, she was gorgeous. She was so at ease and natural. It was clear that she was comfortable with who she was and that Sid was comfortable with her. She watched for a little longer as Sid lifted up the little girl in his arms and blew on her stomach making her giggle as he lifted her up and down. Then as he settled her in his arms and reached down to grasp the little boy's hand who was a mirror image of him. She wanted to find out who the woman was, wanted to know everything that was going on with his life, but she knew that she had lost the right to know such things. As she watched him throw his head back and laugh she couldn't stop the smile growing on her face feeling herself going back to another time, another place. The face of the random woman came into view and she was brought back to the here and now. She felt her smile die down and as she took once last look at the man that she had once called her husband, she wished him happiness in his new life. She then turned around and headed back to her car, towards the destination she had meant to go towards, before fate had stepped in.

Shilpa was currently sitting at the airport, waiting to be called for her flight. Everything was a blur from the moment she left Akash's house to the drive back to the airport. As she waited to get back to a place where she could hide and try to put her broken heart back together again, she couldn't help but think back to the one other time she had felt something close to what she was feeling now. And yet what she had felt then didn't even come close to what she was feeling now, she had thought she knew what it felt like to get her heartbroken but that was simply a bruise. This is what a broken heart felt like, and now she understood why Sid stayed clear of love, why he wanted to protect himself from the pain it could possibly bring. She had no clue how long she waited at the airport, how she had gotten on the flight. But when she landed she managed to get a cab and gave directions to the only place that may offer her some sort of comfort. The second she sat down in her favorite spot the past 24 hours flashed through her head and the pain continued to grow in her heart. She wanted to be mad she wanted to shout and scream, and yet she couldn't. Because she couldn't be mad at Akash, it was his fault. And even if she shouted and screamed it wouldn't change what she had seen. No the only thing she felt was pain and sadness, for she knew that the only person at blame was herself. She was the one that was stupid enough to let Akash walk away from her, even after the countless times he waited patiently for her to realize what he had known all along.
Shilpa had no idea how long she sat there wallowing in regret when she heard her phone go off. She reached for it with the intent of shutting it off when she read the name of the caller. It was then that she figured out that what she was hoping to find at this spot was only going to be found in the presence of the person on the other line. So she picked up. "Hey, Shilps how's it going? I wanted to call you almost three hours ago, but Avni convinced me to wait in case I called at the wrong time and ended up putting a crimp in your game. But I couldn't wait any longer I wanted to hear everything." Sid paused figuring his motormouth sister would start spilling everything out without further prompting instead he got silence. His tone immediately changed from one of teasing to one of slight concern, "Shilpa, is everything okay? You did make it to Dallas all right didn't you? Did you see Akash?" Shilpa answered in the affirmative but without the usually pizzaz she normally had. Sid was in full big brother mode, "Shilpa you better start giving me more than one word answers otherwise I'm hopping the next flight to Dallas and will be pushing my sleeves up and throwing punches first and asking questions later." Shilpa couldn't keep the wall up any longer hearing the concern in her bhaiya's voice and knowing how true the words he spoke were she finally broke down and told him what had happened in a broken phrases. Sid had just walked into Avni's house after their trip to the park and was bringing in the last of their park paraphenlia when he heard Shilpa's story. He put his hand over the mouthpiece as he whispered to Avni that things between Shilpa and Akash hadn't gone well so he was going to find her she immediately gave him her approval and told him that if she needed anything including a female to hate on men with she was just a phone call away. Sid gave Avni an offended look upon the 'hate on men' comment as he ran towards his car. He hopped in drove towards the airport, but as Shilpa got towards the end of her story about how she had come back on the redeye Sid took a quick U-turn and headed towards another destination. He continued to console her as best as he could on the phone, but he knew she needed something much more than words at this moment. He parked his car and ran along the boardwalk towards the one spot he knew he would find her, she was still sniffling on the phone when he reached her. He sat down next to her on the ledge and wrapped his arms around her shoulder turning her so that she could rest her head on his shoulder. She wrapped her arms tightly around him and finally secure in his embrace she let the sobs she had been holding in out.

Having another day before Shilpa would return Riddhima had no choice but to find a hotel nearby and get a room. As she walked into her room she couldn't help but laugh at the irony. Here she had taken almost three years to gather up the courage to finally talk to her sister who had been searching for her for years. And when she finally thought it was going to happen she ended up missing her by a day. Now she had to wait another day before she would get to see her sister, get to talk to her, and find out once and for all where their relationship stood. She fell back against the bed finally letting the thoughts that were always in the back of her mind forward. No matter what she did, no matter how hard she tried, she was never able to forget him. Not that she really wanted to, but she had wanted to try for his sake. Fate. Once again, fate had brought them together, thankfully he hadn't noticed her, if she were honest with herself she would have admitted that deep in her heart she had wanted him to see her. Wanted him to forget the past three years and open his arms to her. She wanted to feel his arms around her, wanted to remember what that feeling was, the one that was simply a faint memory now.

Sid let Shilpa sob out her pain and once it had seemed as though she had finally run out of the tears. He gently asked, "Shilpa, what happened? From your phone call I got bits and pieces all I know is that you went to Dallas, you saw Akash, and now you are back here." Shilpa took a shaky breath in, the pain hadn't subsided and heart still felt heavy, but she had no more tears left to cry. She wanted to tell Sid everything but she was afraid of the pain it was going to cause, she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to stand up against the pain. She tried a couple of times but as soon as the memories started to flow the pain in her heart grew and no words came out. Sid tightened his arms around her and tried again, "Shilpa I know right now it seems as though talking about it going to hurt more than leaving it all bottled up. But I can tell you from personal experience that the pain you feel as you recount what happened is worth it when you feel the peace that comes after you reveal what lies in your heart. In fact, it was a very wise woman who told me that talking out your feelings will make you feel better." Shilpa trusted the words her bhaiya was speaking and was gaining courage from the strength he was offering and just as she was about to tell him she was ready he told her wise woman crack. She couldn't believe it but a small laugh actually escaped from her and she gave him a small nudge.
She took a deep breath and began to recount what happened from the second she landed to the second she left Akash's house. Sid listened quietly as she told him everything, he had to try hard to control his anger he wanted to leave immediately go to Dallas and knock out some teeth, but he knew that wasn't what Shilpa needed right now. Instead he took a few deep breaths before he began, "I'm sorry Shilps. I know you had your hopes set on a certain outcome, and unfortunately it didn't turn out that way. If I had my way I would go there and beat him up for causing you hurt. In fact, once I get you home I think I'm going to book the next flight." Shilpa grasped Sid's arm and stopped his tyrant, "No, bhaiya. Please don't. I know you want to protect me and I love you for that. And if it really was Akash's fault then I would have beaten him up myself." Sid was about to defend her just as any good brother would, but she continued talking. "I should have listened to you. I should have followed my heart a long time ago, unfortunately I was so dead set on not getting hurt that I refused to listen to my heart. And now when I finally did it was too late. Please don't be angry on my behalf Bhaiya, I know I'm hurting right now and I don't know if I will ever stop. But I don't regret listening to my heart and taking a chance." She let out a deep sigh as she ended with, "But I most certainly regret waiting so long to take it." Sid continued to hold Shilpa as she lost herself in her thoughts. He couldn't keep his own thoughts from coming over him as her words struck him.
