Part 23:

Scene 1:

Various occasions..

In the next few days Geet and Nt become good friends. In a way Geet likes fellow female company. Both of them spend most of their time together, talk to one another, watch movies together at the home theatre, NT teaches Geet how to make Italian food, bur doesn't particularly pay attention to any of Geet's Punjabi recipes …. Geet realizes … it was perhaps NT's insecurity that had made her behave the way she had earlier .. she wasn't all that bad after all… These days she hardly got to meet Pinky as, she was busy with work and Maan sir had strictly instructed her not to step out of the house unless it was really necessary. NT would also help Geet with her classes once in a while since she herself had been an engineer during her college days … they had become so close to one another that they were now on nick name basis …

Geet: Oye Naina ! tune itni padhayi ki hai … to fir office main kaam kyun nahi karti …

NT: ( controlling her anger, fake smiling) kahan Geet .. iss parivar ke log hume kaam karne de tab ne …

Geet: kyun? Dev tujhe kaam nahi karne dete hai ?

NT: (covering up for Geet) nahi .. Dev bahut encouraging hai … par … you see, unke haath main kuch nahi hai na … sab Maan veerji ke haath main hai… aur hume nahi lagta unhe humara kaam main involve hona pasand hai …

Geet: aisi toh koi baat nahi hai … Maan sir bahut acche hai ….

NT: accha ek baat batayiye Geet … aap kya zindagi bhar Maan veerji ko Sir kehke pukarengi …

Geet: haan … isme problem kya hai .. ab aadat ho gayi hai na …aur main unhey sir izzat se bulati hoon…

NT: wo sab toh theek hai … lekin .. tumne kabhi socha hai … ke jitni adjustment unhone ne tumhare liye ki hai … I mean, wo thehre city bred …

Geet looks away …

NT: Oh Geet … I am so sorry sweetie .. humara aapko dukhane ka iraada nahi tha … actually .. hum apke dost hai na … issi liye hum aapko bata rahey hai … aap khurana khandaan ki bahu banne wali hai … aur society main Khurana Khandaan ki bahu se kuch toh expectations hongi … aap samajh rahi hai na ?

Geet: par .. Maan sir toh kehte hai … main unhey aise hi pasand hoon…

NT: Haan Geet .. par aapka bhi unki taraf kuch farz banta hai … aap unki life main abhi abhi aayi hai .. aur hum unhey pichley 4 saal se jaante hai … sameera ke time se …

Geet: Sameera ???

NT: Haan Sameera… Maan ki mangetar ….

Geet loses color in her face …. " Maan had mentioned his past in a passing about how he had lost faith in love and relationships, but he had clearly told her, he didn't want to remember any of that …" and Geet had agreed …. She hadn't asked him anymore questions … to the extent that … she didn't even know his name… Geet gets all edgy ….

Geet: tu usey bahut acchey se jaanti thi !

NT: Haan ….

Geet ( hesitatntly): kaisi thi woh ?

NT: well… let me see … who salwar nahi… short skirts pehenti thi … aur wo yahi ki rehne waali thi …modeling karti thi …issiliye bahut hi fashionable … agar Maan kisiki baat maante toh wo sirf Sam ki …din raat wo yahin pe rehti thi …

Geet: raat ko bhi … (twitching her dupatta) … wo ladki raat ko bhi yehi rehti thi …

NT: haan … kabhi kabhi … ruk jaati thi …( enjoying the effect she is having on Geet) ..err… geet chodo na yeh sab baatein … Maan veerji ab aapke saath hai .. that's what important right ….

Scene 2:

Geet's Room

Geet is really restless … she doesn't know what to do … she had promised Maan she would never talk about his past … but now she was really worried .. and was feeling super insecure … and NT's words did have an impact on her …like never before …

Geet: kya Maan sir ne sacchi mere liye itne saare compromises kiye ?

She remembers the first few encounters between maan and her and how they never got along and he would find fault with everything she had done. She had gotten flowers and he threw them out .. she had planned Indian for the party launch, he wanted foreign … but still.. whatever she had done .. he had never said no to her .. perhaps it was his soft hearted nature ….she gets so restless.. she dials Maan's number …

Maan: haan Geet bolo …

Geet: aap kya kar rahey hai ….

Maan: Geet abhi main ek meeting main hoon, French Clients ke saath….

Geet: aur wahan ke arrangements sab theek se ho gaye hai na sir ?

Maan: Haan Geet.. tumhe ghabrane ki koi zaroorat nahi hai … sasha ne sab sambhaal liya hai…. Sab inke pasand ke hisaab se ho raha hai …

Geet: (mumbling to herself) .

Maan: geet tum kuch bol rahi thi?

Geet: ji … Ji nahi ….

Maan: (amused) toh main phone rakhoon? Abhi thoda busy hoon…

Geet nods and hangs up …

Maan on the other hand smiles to himself … " abhi se biwi ki tarah sawaal karne lagi hai …."

French Delegate: Mr. Khurana … was that your wife ?

Maan: No … it was actually my fianc …

French: your face says it all….

Maan straightens his face and continues with his work …..

Geet in the meanwhile is walking up and down …. Comically .. she says to herself …

Geet: yeh naina bilkul sahi keh rahi thi …bechare maan sir … ab unhone ne mere liye itna kia hai .. ab mera bhi haq banta hai na …ke main unke liye kuch toh karoon… haina ? kya karoon? Naina se hi pooch leti hoon!

Just then she gets an sms from Maan saying … " I miss you" She smiles to herself … but she has something else on her mind at the moment …

A while later …

Scene 3:

NT's Room:

She comes back into NT's room and NT is watching an English channel on TV and enjoying the jokes laughing hard at the end of each line.. Geet feel a little out of place … she says ….

Geet: yeh kya bol rahi hai ?

NT: explains the joke … ( laughing all the way thro it)

Geet doesn't find it funny at all and fake smiles(mumbling again) … "pata nahi isme itni hasne waali kya baat hai …."

NT: iss joke ki samajhne ke liye, iskey peeche logic ko samajhna zaroori hai ….

Geet to her shock see's the lead couple kissing ….

Geet: haye rabba .. yeh dono abhi abhi toh miley they …aur itne main hi … ( she brings both her fingers of her hands together as though to indicate a kiss)

NT: Geet .. yeh sab common hai … anyway … humne faisla kar liya hai … hum aapko posh banake rahenge …

Geet: nahi nahi … main aise hi theek hoon…

NT: arey ek baar try karne main kya harz hai… ek minute …

NT ransacks her cupboard …and pulls out high heels and a low cut short dress…

Yeh lee jiye… ek baar yeh try karke dehikye toh …

Geet: na baba na .. itne chote chote kapde … yeh toh mere kurti se bhi chota hai …

NT: Geet .. aap kitni simple hai … aur sweet bhi … hum kahan keh rahi hai … ke aap har roz aise kapde peheno … sirf aaj hi ki baat hai … aaj jab Maan Veerji kaam se ayenge .. bas …. Apne iss look se aap unko surprise kar dena ….

Geet: na baba na ! aise kapde pehen ke … main unke saamne …

NT: oh come on Geet … be a sport ….!apne hone waaley pati se saamne kya sharmaana ? ab aap andar jayiye aur change karke ayiye …

She pushes Geet into the loo and waits for her …

A few minutes later … comes comes out .. looking stunning in the one piece short dress, but, she is feeling all odd and awkward …

NT: ab hum aapko heels ke saath kaise chalte hai wo sikhayenge ….

She makes geet wear pencil heals and holds her hand and helps her walk … Geet trips a letter but NT supports her …. But after a while … Geet is comfortable … she manages okay ….

NT: perfect … hume pata hai .. Maan jo aap bahut pasand ayengi … chaliye … ab hum bahar chalte hai …

Geet: aise ? Na baba na …. Mujhe darr lagta hai … meri baat maan naina .. main andar jaake change kar leti hoon….

NT: geet aapko humpe bharosa nahi hai kya ?? Aur Haan …. Zara confidence ke saath behave kee jiye .. aaj aap maan ko darling bulyengi ….

Geet nods uncomfortably …. Everything going above her head …NT and Geet come out of the room and are walking towards the hall… On the otherside … Dev has just entered the bedroom and he has a towel in his hand, which means he is going in for a bath … suddenly an idea strikes NT … She comes down .. and she says …

NT: arey geet .. aap toh apna cell phone humare kamre main hi bhool aayi … aap Maan ko call kaise karengi ?

Geet: arey haan … main abhi apna phone laati hoon….

As Geet starts walking towards the room, Maan gets off his car … and starts walking into the house ….And dev in his bathroom has realized, he has run out of shampoo….

Maan enters the house and NT pretends to be reading a magazine.. Maan gives her a dirty look … and walks up … as he does .. NT gives out a wicked smile …

Dev on calling NT a number of times… and not hearing her respond decides to go out and fetch it himself ….

Maan is approaching Dev's room as he has to cross it to reach his own…. Geet is about to step into Dev's room and Dev also is about to step into his bed room….

On seeing Geet dressed like that … looking for her phone amidst the pile of her clothes she had left behind, Dev is left open mouthed …

Just then… Maan also senses Geet is around and looks to his left and to his shock, see's her dressed in these clothes in dev's room …. Geet see's Maan, gets conscious… covers herself with her hands in front … and she loses her balance, just in time for Maan to rush to hold her …

The moment … she see's Maan she says … " darji ….."

Maan: huh ?

Geet: mera matlab hai … darleej ….

Maan cant take his eyes off her … there is hair flying all over her face … and her awkwardness visible on her face …..Dev is still standing at the door …
