Prologue
Her voice, full of sweetness.
His words, filled with bitterness.
Her world was made of love,
While his, had nothing except hate.
If one was rose, then the other thorn.
If one was wax, then the other thread.
If one is soft, then the other prickly.
If one melts, then the other burns.
Let it be rose, let it be thorn.
Let it be wax, let it be thread.
Rose and thorn make Rose plant.
Wax and thread, burn the candle.
Walking on different path,
Head for one door.
These star-crossed-lovers,
Were two bodies and a soul.
Part 1
"Oh my god! Ridhzi, it's The Armaan Mallik. Can you believe it?" squealed Muskaan in delight.
Shaking her head she said, "Ah-ah. No, I can't. You can act like such a teenager sometimes! How old are you girl?"
Muskaan, rolling her eyes continued, "What are you saying? The Zeus of The Earth is here and you are questioning my excitement? I wish Dr. Kirti had assigned me as his consulting doctor than you, miss-not-interested."
Ridhima wondered if Muskaan truly had lost her brain, mainly after Mr. Mallik has been admitted to the hospital, after his car accident. Handling the file that she had been checking to the nurse, while listening to Muskaan's banter as well, she started walking towards the general ward only to be followed by irate Muskaan.
Muskaan, seeing her best friend not interested in her talk, followed her saying, "What are you made out of woman! He is The Armaan Mallik."
Ridhima irritated with her friend, taking the name of the man every past second, hit her forehead with frustration. "How many times will you say his name? And you have been praising him since the time he got admitted as if you know him from ages. Do you even know anything about him?" Seeing her about to answer, Ridhima stopped her, "No, don't answer that. I know you know everything about him; from his cloth's brand to his shoes' size."
"You must be the only girl alive who doesn't like him. I mean how can you not like him? You know you are so lucky that you are his doctor. Other female doctors including the resident doctors and interns will be on ninth cloud if they got the opportunity," said Muskaan while checking a patient in general ward, while looking at Ridhima who was busy with another patient beside her.
After they were done, they made their way towards the locker room, when suddenly Ridhima said, "You know I've been wondering, he is such a powerful person. I mean, he has everything in life that a person dreams about. People always talk about his success and his hard work, but why is it that when he was admitted to hospital yesterday night, no one came to visit him except for his manager." Muskaan, finally pushing her white-coat inside her locker which was filled with junk-food, turned towards Ridhima, "Well' I heard his parents got divorced when he was sixteen years old. He started living in boys-hostel since then. Surely the man has faced a lot. The manager is his best friend. Rumors have it that he just broke up with his girl friend. What was her name? Oh ya' Anjali. She dumped him for some guy called Atul. Feel bad for him. Why would anyone dump someone like him? Well' it's their life. What can we say?"
She hadn't seen him yet. She felt bad that anyone can be so lonely. She was a happy-go-lucky person. It's not as if she hadn't faced any such pain in life, but she had always tried to take life easily. Her mom used to be a prostitute. Her dad was the only man that her mom had ever loved. So, even after aborting 3 children, she had decided to keep Ridhima as a symbol of her love. Since the day, she got to know about her pregnancy with Ridhima in her worm, she had decided to quit the job. Her dad had been in emotional turmoil when he made love to her mom.
Padma, her mother had told her about her dad. He was a nice man. The day he lost his wife in a car accident was the day when he came to Padma all drunk. He was not in his senses at that time and when he woke up next day, he apologized to Padma and had cried for hours. Padma had never seen a gentleman like him. She said it was okay and she didn't regret whatever happened. After that he had left, with some money to which Padma had refused to take and he gave it to the person who Padma worked for.
She was in that occupation because she grew up in that environment, but she couldn't let her child grow in the same environment like hers. She decided to leave the place. They started leaving in neighborhood whose people were friendly and supportive. She told them her story and they had accepted her with her child. Muskaan was her neighbor. Growing up together they became best friends. Muskaan's mom, Geet and her dad, Manpreet treated Ridhima like their own daughter and Padma always said she had two daughters. They had graduated from same school, college and even done internship from same hospital.
She was showered with love all her life and never forgot to thank god. Today Muskaan and Ridhima both were successful doctors. There were women gossipers who would taunt Ridhima about her mother's past saying that they would never want a daughter-in-law like her, but Ridhima always ignored them knowing their character. Besides, she wasn't interested in becoming their "daughter-in-law."
Coming out of her chain of thoughts, Ridhima looked at Muskaan who was busy talking on phone, when she cut the phone and looked at Ridhima.
"Where were you lost my dear, Alice? I have been trying to call you from a long time but you were lost in your wonderland. Anyways, Padma Aunty called and asked where we are. Let's go. We have early duty tomorrow and besides the fact, that you will be meeting Mr. Mallik tomorrow, morning. Ah'. I wonder how it would be like to start your day seeing his face."
While Muskaan was busy day-dreaming, Ridhima picked her handbag and dragged her out of the locker room.
