Chapter 43

Vicky raised his head when he heard his sometimes shy sometimes bold sister like friend of childhood. He turned and looked at Faz, who had placed both her hands on her waist and had a foot pointed out tapping away with the knowledge that she had caught on to something juicy here.

Vicky winked and she winked back. She said, Bhai Jaan, aap kab sudhroge? Aapko Daadi dhoondh rahi hai. I thought it would embarrassing for Nargis if she came, so I told her I shall find you, Aapki harkatoon se mein wakif hoon na, I had seen you two slip away. Ab agar aapka milan khatam ho gaya hai, to wapis chalne ki zehmat pharmayenge, putting both hands out in an imaginary red carpet and bowed with sarcasm and merriment in her voice and eyes.

Nargis was embarrassed and she ducked behind Vicky when he had turned to face Faz. She also heaved a sigh of relief when she heard, Daadi was going to come but Faz stalled her. Faz came forward and pulled Nargis's hand, bringing her out from behind Vicky. Aapko humse sharmane ki koi zaroorat nahi, Bhabhi Jaan, Hum beshak aapke saath hai aur samjhte hain hamre nikhatoo Bhai Jaan ko, Wahi lekar aaye honge aapko, giving a light punch on Vicky's shoulder. Nargis smiled and instinctively hugged her for saving her from a certain embarrassment should Daadima had come looking for him. She liked Faz, initially she had seemed a bit uptight and proper but she should have known, she had spent her childhood with Vicky and Maan.

They then walked together back into the great room and found Daadi near the entrance, having lost patience waiting for Vicky to show up. She asked where he had been and he lied saying Nargis needed to adjust her dress and he showed her the way to the powder room. Daadi smiled knowingly but let it pass. She said, Chalo, ab mehmaanno ko bhi sambhalo, lunch ke liye sab ko porch mein direct kariye. Faz, Nargis and Vicky got into action and took help of Adi, Sasha, Tasha and Nupur along with Arjun to direct everyone towards the lunch area.

Everyone went over to the lunch area with the bride and groom to be leading the way. Daadi was with them and so was Abs's family. She had enjoyed herself dancing with Maan and felt exhilarated with all the festivities. The function was turning out to be a beautiful one. She was happy that Daadima and everyone else had kept their promise and no awkward moment had come up. The fare was a lavish one with a mix of Punjabi and Bihari dishes, just like the joining of two families.

Once the guests and most of the family had finished lunch and were relaxing in the great room with dessert of Gulab jamun and Vanilla Ice cream, Vicky, Nargis, Faz, Adi, Sasha, Tasha, Arjun and Nupur sat for lunch, forming a circle with their chairs and plates in their hands. Maan and Abs joined them once most of the people left following dessert. Daadima had also retired after Abs's family left, her brother had stayed behind and he had joined the group with Maan and Abs. Everyone now, was enjoying a leisurely lunch, just the youngsters, enjoying the after party. They were teasing each other. Adi was pulling Maan's leg about the dance and the ceremony and Faz and Vicky joining him echoing the moments that were hilarious and fun. They all clapped for Arjun for his impromptu dancing and dhol. He gave a glance to Nupur to see how she liked the dhol playing. Nupur seemed to be joining in as well in the praises and for some reason he felt good about that. She was seated opposite him in the circle, he smirked, far away from him so that she does not get drenched by his food or drink. He had to do something to redeem himself he thought, the more he tried to get to know this girl, the more she ran away from him.

Faz was sitting in middle of Maan and Vicky who had their fiances on the other side of them. Abs's brother was sitting next to her and Adi next to him as they knew each other and had lots to catch up as well. Adi was had been feeling good about the moment when Faz had held his hand but was not sure whether that meant something or was just something that happened in event like this. She seemed a bit relaxed and approachable now. he had kept on darting glances at her and had found her eyes on him everytime, but had shyly looked down the minute he had looked at her and he found that encouraging. He thought I will talk to her once I can find an excuse to be with her in a little more private setting. Happy with that thought he paid attention to what Abs's brother was saying.

Sasha and Tasha were enjoying this group party and were happy to see the bosses in different mood than the usual somber one at the office. They were surprised to see the easy camredarie between Farah and the brothers and then learnt that they were all childhood friends.

Faz then looked up and asked Abs what was she planning for bridal shower and if anyone was hosting it for her. Abs said, No she had not thought there would be one, so Faz said, theek hai bhabhi jaan, I shall host a bridal shower for you as a welcome to the family. After all, mere bhai jaan shaadi kar rahe hai and I would love to do this. Aap sab larkiyan mere ghar on Saturday night and all the boys you are not invited. This is girls only party. She turns to Vicky and says, Aap ya Arjun bhaisaab bachelor's party karkhne waale the na? Vicky looked at Arjun and said yeah we are. Maan bhaiya ke aakhri raat with women other than his future bride. Will be fun. Hum to typical American style mein manane waale hain Kyon Arjun. But I am not telling you girls exactly what.

Abs looks horrified and asks Vicky, Aap kya karne waale ho? then puts a hand to her mouth realizing she sounded like a jealous wife already. Everyone laughed and Arjun said, Bhabhi, abhi shaadi nahi hui hai, so Maan has to have the last of the fun before he is tied to you forever now doesn't he?

Nupur glares at Arjun, Nargis was smirking as Vicky winked at her Faz exchanged a look with Maan that was full of naughtiness. They seemed to have a plan that was working and the look said that much to each other. Adi intercepted this and realized that Faz had started this conversation that was loaded and knew there was something cooking between Maan and her.

He wondered what? He thought, Abs does not know what family she has gotten herself into and giving a small shake of his head. He had thought Faz was the quiet one, but looks like she had layers to her personality that changed every time he blinked. She was like a kaleidoscope. He wanted to know her even more now.
