@Shale...nicely done. You put it well, and you fulfilled a wish. I had wanted Nikki to move on while Jiah was around...and I could never understand why Abhi didn't want to let her go. 😕 Love just wasn't enough to hold on to in their situation, for it was a promise of undying love that might never turn into a true relation...who knew what could have happened, and I wished she had moved on. No matter how much I love AN, that's what I thought.

Part 14

'Bhai, I am coming to Sanjeevani tomorrow!' Tia told Dr. Modi at the dinner table on Wednesday night.

'Fine, Tia! But first let me check with Dr. Dasgupta and find out when he is free to see you. I'll call you once I talk to him on reaching the hospital and then you can come over, ok?' Abhi replied, as he finished his dinner and got up to wash his hands. 'Come on, Ma! I will make you girls some coffee today! You both go to the living room and relax with some music and I will bring the coffee there,' he said with a smile on his face. Tia and Anitha were surprised with his suggestion. Last two days, he had excused himself immediately after dinner, saying that he was very tired. He had avoided any conversation and headed to his bedroom as if he was avoiding both of them.

Today though he had come back late from work, he seemed to be in a more relaxed mood than last couple of days. Tia had noticed that her brother had been a bit worried the last couple of days, though she had refrained from asking him anything about it. After coming back from his work, he had looked tired and tensed. Infact, it seemed like he was waiting for a call or a message on his mobile, and she had caught him checking his mobile once too often. But today, as he walked into the house, with his usual confident swagger, he had a relaxed smile on his face and had greeted her and Ma with a hug and a kiss on their foreheads. Tia had raised an eyebrow and looked at him questioningly, and he had just laughed at her, asking,

'What?'

'Looks like someone had a good day!' she retorted with a laugh, standing with her hands on her hips.

Abhi pinched her nose, and said,

'Yes nani ma, I had a good day! You have a problem with that?'

'Nahi, nahi! Why should I? I am always happy to see my big brother in a good mood. I wonder who was that nice person who helped to sweeten your mood! It wouldn't have been Nikki, would it?' she asked teasingly.

'Oh shut up, you brat!' he said taping her cheek lovingly, 'Chalo, get me some dinner! I am starving!' he put his arm around her shoulder and walked up the steps. 'I will freshen-up and be back in a jiffy' saying that he rushed to his room, avoiding any further probing by his nosy sister.

Tia was glad that he was smiling and joking today instead of sulking and serious. Whoever it was who was responsible for that change, had to be very special! She was surely curious and will have to go to Sanjeevani soon to check out what was happening there! Who could have been the reason for Dr. Modi's good mood, she wondered, though she was ready to bet all her money on 'Nikki'! Tia needed to find out everything about this girl! She had managed to unlock the doors to her brother's heart, which he had closely guarded for such a long time and had not given it to anyone in 32 long years. She had to be someone very special! Or rather, she better be, Tia thought! And she better take good care of his heart as well as him, else she will have to deal with Tia Modi, Tia thought threateningly, her hands on her waist and a serious look on her face. She would never let anyone hurt her brother! He was too special!

Nikki and Sid had finished their lunch break and were heading back to Sid's cabin to work on their report. As they passed the reception, they saw a beautiful young girl inquiring about Dr. Modi's whereabouts. She was dressed in a colourful t-shirt and shorts, revealing her long sexy legs. Nikki observed Sid slow down and stare at her. She pulled at his hand and said with a smile,

'Chalo ...... kya dekh rahe ho? We have too much work to finish! Stop wasting time!'

Sid was lost for a few seconds .... but then coming back to the present tried to focus on what Nikki was saying,

'Hain, hain chalo! Meine kahan na bola!' he said, still unable to take his eyes off the girl.

'He will have to find out about her later. Maybe he can ask Dr. Modi himself!' he thought mischievously. As he turned towards Nikki, he found her too looking intently at the girl with a thoughtful expression.

'Sexy, na? Wonder what she wanted from Dr. Modi? Did he mention anything to you, Nikki?' he asked her teasingly.

'Sid! Why should he tell me whom he is meeting? Must be his patient or someone!' she said, she herself wondering who could it be.

'Patient? No way! She does not look like she has fallen ill for a single day in her whole life. So has to be 'someone' else only!' saying this, he knowingly planted a seed of doubt in Nikki's mind. Then pulling her away from there,

'Just leave it, Nikki! What does it have to do with us? How do we care about who Dr. Modi sees or not? Lets go finish our report,' he added slyly,

Nikki was trying to concentrate on the report. But it was becoming impossible. She kept on getting lost in her thoughts. Sid had to keep on repeating himself on several occasions. Finally, he said, 'Nikki! You seem to be distracted. Kya baat hai? You not feeling well?' he said, trying to hide his smile, knowing completely well where she was lost.

'Sid, I think I need a break! I will be back in a while, can you please excuse me?' she said with a bit of irritation.

'Fine, go ahead. I will also grab a coffee and meet you back here in a bit', saying that both left his cabin, Sid walked towards the cafeteria and Nikki found herself heading down the corridor in deep thoughts.

Nikki was wondering what was happening to her. She could not stop thinking about the girl. Images of Abhi and her, smiling and talking kept on flashing in front of her eyes. She was getting irritated with herself ..... and without her own knowledge of how she reached there she found herself outside Abhi's cabin! She was going to turn around and leave, but her curiosity took over! She might as well go in and ask him straight away, since she was already here, she thought.

'Hi!' she said softly as she walked in and saw Abhi pouring into his files.

Abhi looked up with surprise in his eyes. He was taken back to see her there.

'Hi Nikki, you okay?' he said keeping his file down and looking intently at her. She was avoiding his eyes and was looking a bit uncomfortable. She was fidgeting with her fingers, which was typical of her, when something was bothering her. Was it because of what had happened yesterday, he wondered.

'Abhi ........' she said as she looked up, right into his eyes. Then stopped and shook her head!

'Nikki, what is happening? Is it about yesterday? Is it still hurting?' he asked with concern in his eyes.

Suddenly, Nikki realized what he meant. Her eyes looked straight at him, and she said,

'Abhi, I have already forgotten about that! I am fine. There is no pain. So please don't worry about it.' She said in a firm voice. There was determination in her eyes that Abhi did not understand, but decided to just leave it there.

'Okay, fine! So why don't you sit down!' he told her, walking around the table to the other side where Nikki was standing. He indicated for her to sit down on the chair and he leaned on the table, half sitting on it next to the chair, with his hands crossed across his chest and legs stretched and crossed in front of him.

Nikki sat down on the chair nervously. But she could not look away from him. He was looking so good, in his black shirt unbuttoned at his throat and light blue jeans. His rimless glasses made him look even more handsome. No one had a right to look so sexy, she thought to herself! Abhi was also looking at her, wondering what was going on! Then suddenly he saw an awareness creep into her dark big eyes, but she looked away immediately, hiding away from him,

'Abhi, who was that person who came to meet you in the afternoon?' she asked finally.

'Who? I saw a lot of people today! Whom do you mean!' Abhi asked in confusion. Nikki had never asked him about any of his patients earlier.

'You know the tall girl in shorts who came in after lunch! She was ......' she did not complete her sentence but there was a trace of irritation in her voice.

'Oh ...... her?' Abhi realized what was happening. Nikki must have seen Tia when she came in. And now she was curious ... or maybe even jealous!

Nikki looked up at him sharply as soon as he recognized the girl she was asking about. And she noticed that there was a lost look in his eyes. Maybe he was dreaming about her, she thought.

'Hain .... her!' she said with anger, jealousy burning in her eyes.

'Wasn't she cute! Oh, I had called her here to ....' he said with mischief in his eyes. Enjoying Nikki squirm in her chair.

But suddenly Nikki got up, walked towards the window, and stood there with her back towards him and her arms crossed across her chest. She was really angry now, Abhi could make out from the way she was standing.

'You called her here? For what, Abhi?' she asked sharply, turning her head to look angrily at him. But quickly looked back again as she noticed his intent gaze on her.

Slowly he walked towards her. Nikki did not even hear him move, until she heard him softly whisper into her ears as he stood very close to her,

'Nikki? Are you jealous?' she could make out clearly from his voice, he was making fun of her.

Though he was not touching her, she could feel his warmth through her clothes and each and every cell in her body was aware of his closeness. And as he whispered in her ears, his soft breadth tickled her, and her whole body broke out in goose pimples. But she was not going to let him see how he was affecting her. So she turned around angrily saying,

'Jealous? My foot! Why should I be jealous of anyone?'

And that was her mistake. As soon as she turned, she found herself, up close to him. He was looking at her, with his mocking chocolate brown sexy eyes! And she was completely lost! She could not utter another word. She just gulped nervously, as she saw how closely he was observing her and her reactions.

Slowly, he lifted his hand and pushed a strand of hair away from her face behind her ear. Closing her eyes, she sighed softly and let her breadth out slowly, which she had been unconsciously holding for so long. He slowly, teasingly, blew on her eye one after the other, forcing her to once again open her beautiful eyes. He took a step closer to her, and she stepped back consciously. Then he took another step towards her, and she stepped back once more. But he took one more step ..... and this went on till Nikki could not move any further as she found herself trapped between Abhi and the window. Finally Abhi said,

'You are right! You don't need to feel jealous of anyone!' he let out a heavily loaded statement in a husky voice. And that brought a beautiful smile on her face and a bright sparkle to her big black eyes. That took his breath away!

He bent his head slowly towards her, but before he could place his lips over hers, he heard her ask, 'Than who was she?'

But before Abhi could answer, they were interrupted by a knock on the door. And even before they could move away, the person walked in, and Nikki was shocked to see the devil herself about whom she was asking.

'Bhai, I had a great meeting ......' she stopped dead in her track as Tia saw that her brother was not alone but was standing closely with a very pretty girl.

'Tiu ...... there you are! I was just about to tell Nikki about you!' Abhi said, moving away from Nikki and towards Tia. Both were staring at each other apprehensively. He moved next to Tia and put his arm around her shoulder lovingly and said,

'Tia, meet Dr. Nikita Malhotra. She is an intern at Sanjeevani and is also working with me on the New Sanjeevani project. And Nikki, this is my little sister, Tia. She just finished her school in US and majored in physiotherapy. I wanted her to meet Dr. DasGupta' he said with a fond smile on his face. He found himself looking from one to the other trying to judge their reactions to each other. He noticed both of them had not moved and were just observing each other.

He was glad to see Nikki recover first and walk towards Tia. As she reached close to her, she smiled and stretched out her hand and said,

'Hi, Tia! Welcome to Sanjeevani! I saw you today when you came in the afternoon. I was wondering who this beautiful girl was who had come to meet Dr. Modi!' she told her frankly. 'I am so glad to meet you!'

Tia took Nikki's warm hand in a handshake, returning her smile, but was still trying to judge Nikki.

'Hi, Dr. Nikita! Nice to meet you too! Hope I did not interrupt you guys! I just finished my meeting with Dr. DasGupta and thought Bhai will be waiting for me to hear how it all went.' She looked at her brother questioningly and then back again at Nikki.

'No, no. Not at all!' Nikki replied self-consciously knowing completely well that Tia would have noticed their closeness when she walked in on them. 'I was just about to leave. I have to catch up on my report and someone is waiting for me.' She said giving a teasing glance to Abhi.

'Nikki, why don't you also wait and hear about what Tia has to say. Maybe you can help me to convince her to join Sanjeevani'. Nikki was surprised to hear Abhi's invitation but when she looked at him he gave her a sly smile. Nikki immediately understood his ulterior motive for that invitation. He was trying to keep her away from Sid!

'Bhai, I don't need any convincing! I am already sold out on the idea of working with Dr. Dasgupta. He is a fantastic doctor and even better human being. He completely understood the kind of work I want to do, and promised me that, that is what I would be able to do here. I am so excited now! I already told him that I will start work from Monday itself' Tia retorted excitedly. Abhi and Nikki were surprised. They both looked at each other and then at Tia .....

'That was fast, Tia! You did not take long to make up your mind!'

'Bhai, I know what I want ..... and when I get the opportunity to have it, I grab it. Unlike you, I go with my heart, without thinking much and wasting my precious time. You are too old and too slow! You keep in thinking and thinking, and still thinking some more, taking up all the time in the world to decide about what is right and what is wrong!' she told him teasingly. Abhi & Nikki both looked at each other with embracement, understanding very well what Tia was talking about.

'So you better get someone to type out an appointment letter for me before Monday morning. For here I come, Sanjeevani!' she exclaimed with her hands stretched out and her eyes closed, as if ready to take off on a long flight. 'That will be my Rakshabandhan gift, from you, my dear brother!' she said laughing, giving a hug to Abhi.

Abhi taped her gently on her cheek and said, 'You are really mad, do you know that? I will take care of your gift, my nani ma, but please tell me now, what is your next plan! I have a meeting in another 15 minutes and that will go on for atleast an hour. So you will have to wait for me here till then. Then both of us can leave together, okay?' he said.

'Tia, why don't you join me!' Nikki suggested. 'I will introduce you to my friends. Since you are planning to join Sanjeevani, it will be nice for you to get to know some people around here and make new friends'.

'That's a great idea, Dr. Nikita! And I will get a chance to get to know you better too!' Tia exclaimed, she looked at Abhi and winked at him. 'From the time Bhai mentioned about you, I have been waiting to meet you' she said, now relaxing a bit, taking a liking to Nikki as she saw that she was a nice friendly person. 'Come, we can gossip about Bhai, and tell each other secrets about him!' she said taking Nikki's hand in hers and pulling her out of Abhi's cabin.

Abhi moved towards her threateningly saying, 'Tia ki bachi, wait till I get my hands on you'. But before he could get her, Tia pulled Nikki out of his room. Abhi started laughing at Tia as he saw her sticking her tongue out at him, from behind the glass door, making faces at him. Nikki kept on staring at him, as she was surprised to discover this completely different side of Abhi. She could not believe that it was the same Sadu, Khaduus, Moody Abhi she had known until now!

This was sooo good!! I loved the interactions between the three of them!

If its okay with you, is it possible to post a potential pic of Tia? In my brain when I read fics, I imagine the people (I am strange 😆 ) But I can't seem to put a face together for Tia.
