You Belong to Me
Chapter Two
I'll finish your existence, my beautiful Divya, if anything happens to her on the way ' nothing can ever happen to you whilst I am alive, my beautiful Divya.
A silent gasp escaped from her parched lips as she awoke from her deep slumber. Her head was pounding and her ankles were throbbing excruciatingly. The brightness of the hospital room was too much for her sensitive eyes to handle ' thus causing tears to slip down her pale cheeks. Divya sat up on the bed, rubbing her aching eyes; desperately trying to gather her flaying thoughts. What had happened last night? Was the voice just a figment of her imagination? Why couldn't she remember anything? Her headache intensified as she desperately tried to think of an answer to her own questions.
She sighed in frustration and quickly scanned the room. Her sore eyes widened in astonishment as she surveyed the plethora array of roses placed around the room. All she could see was bouquets of rich blood red roses situated in every corner of the room. Her face was marred in utter mystification, who sent all these flowers? She thought to herself, nobody knew her secret fetish for red roses.
At that moment she heard the telephone ringing beside her bed. Without taking her eyes off the flowers, she bent over and picked up the phone.
'Hello' she said softly.
'So your awake now?' she heard a deep husky voice reply.
'Who is this?' she asked.
'How are you feeling?' he replied, ignoring her question.
'I-I'm feeling fine, but who is this?' she repeated.
'Did you like the flowers?' he asked.
'How did you know roses are my favorite' she demandingly asked.
She heard him laugh gently on the phone. 'I know a lot of things about you Divya' he replied.
Divya instantly felt a shudder of fear run down her spine 'How do you know my name?'
'Take care of yourself' he replied after a moment, 'I don't ever want to see you in such a condition again'.
'Who are you?' She asked. Silence was the only reply as she put down the phone and cautiously looked around in paranoia. The voice sounded so familiar, she thought to herself.
At that moment the door to the ward opened and a young nurse walked towards her, carrying a food tray. She stood before Divya and smiled nervously, 'H-how are you feeling Ma'am?'
Divya was slightly taken aback by the formalness of her speech, 'I'm good thank you' she replied. Divya silently observed the nurse as she placed the food before her. Her eyes narrowed suspiciously as she noticed that the nurse was practically trembling from what seemed like fear.
'You seem a bit nervous' Divya pointed out, 'are you a new employee?'
'N-no Ma'am' replied the nurse, 'I've been working here for three years'.
'Oh that's nice' Divya smiled nicely, 'but really there's no need for such formality, you can call me by my name.'
'Oh no Ma'am, I'd rather address you this way' replied the nurse.
'But it feels awkward' Divya pointed out, 'and I am only a patient not your boss'.
'Please Ma'am, I have been ordered to address you in this manner' replied the nurse.
'From whom have you taken such an absurd order?' asked Divya.
'T-the owner of this hospital' stammered the nurse.
'Well tell the owner that I do not like being called Ma'am and would prefer it if my name was used instead' replied Divya.
'I-I can't' she replied worriedly, 'his given the staff strict orders! No one can question him'.
'Well than I will' retorted Divya.
'Oh Ma'am please don't complain to him, I will lose my job' pleaded the nurse.
'But why are you so scared? I am not going to complain about you' replied Divya, 'I merely want to tell him that there is no need for the staff to be so formal.'
The nurse was on the verge of tears, 'I beg of you Ma'am, he will get angry' whined the nurse.
'Look don't cry' Divya said in concern, 'if it worries you so much then I will not say anything'.
'Thank you so much Ma'am' she replied in gratitude.
With that said, the nurse quickly scurried off towards the door.
'Hey wait' called Divya, 'I need to ask you something'.
The nurse looked reluctantly over her shoulder and waited for the question.
'Who brought me to the hospital and who sent me all these flowers?' she asked.
'Oh' replied the nurse, 'Mr. Chopra did'.
'And who is Mr. Chopra?' asked Divya.
'The owner of this hospital' she replied with a smile.
Divya was astonished by her answer, 'does he usually always lavish his patients with flowers?'
'No Ma'am, Mr. Chopra is never concerned about anything or anyone' she replied.
'Then what's with all the flowers?' Divya asked.
The nurse smiled knowingly and replied, 'You can ask him that personally when he comes to the hospital tomorrow'. That said, the nurse finally walked out of the room; leaving Divya alone and further confused.
With a sigh, Divya looked down at the tray and with a surprise noticed a piece of paper placed beside the food. She picked up the paper and unfolded it, noting that the writing was very neat.
Don't bother the staff with so many questions. I am the only one whom can give you your answers. Until tomorrow that is.
