UPDATE 20
Ridz glanced up at the clock anxiously wondering where Sid was. It was almost 11:30pm and he should have been home an hour ago at the latest. She had tried his cell a couple of times but still got no answer. She even called the night shift at the hospital to ask if he had gotten held back due to an emergency but the covering physician said he had left at his assigned time. Ridz started pacing back and forth and started to worry, Here I was so engrossed in my plans that I didn't even hear his phone call when he called, and now I don't even know where he is. Where are you Siddhant? I was hoping today would be a wonderfully romantic night with me springing a surprise on you for our anniversary, and now it's only thirty minutes from our anniversary and I don't even know if you are okay. Please be okay. Ridz was just about to call Papa and ask if he had sent Sid on some work at one of the neighboring hospitals when she heard his key in the door. She immediately sighed in relief and rushed to the door. She reached the entryway just as he pushed the doors open. She didn't give him a chance to even set down his coat or drop his keys she simply ran straight into his arms and hugged him tight, "I'm so glad you are okay. I was so worried when you didn't call me back and didn't answer any of my phone calls. Do you know how late you are? Where were you? What were you doing? Don't ever do that to me again."
Sid had just stepped over the threshold when his wife flung herself at him. He braced himself as he caught her and let his arms wrap around her. He tried to set her back so he could see her face but she refused to let go and then she started firing questions at him. He couldn't answer one before she asked the next. So he simply stood and absorbed the feel of her in his arms and waited until she was done with all of her questions. When she seemed to be done he began, "I'm sorry, I did call you but your phone was busy so I figured I would just talk to you when I got home. And I know I am late, but I didn't mean to be. I got out of the hospital on time but on my way here I got a call from Rohan and he needed to meet up with me, and since I was near by I thought I'd just drop by and see him before I came home. I must have forgotten to turn my ringer on after my shift ended and so I missed your calls. But I'm here now and I'm starved. Do I need to get dinner to make up for my tardiness?"
Upon feeling Sid's arms around her and hearing his voice she felt her anxiousness die down and she was able to remember the purpose of tonight's dinner. She took a step back, and grasped his hand in hers while she wrapped her other arm around his and she led him towards the living room as she spoke aloud, "No. No need for that. I got off work early today and so I have already made dinner and it's been warming in the oven. Everything is all set all that was missing was you, and now that you are here we can all eat. And you're not the only one that's starved." She felt Sid squeeze her towards him as he laughed. They got to the table sat down and at first Ridz was too nervous and excited about her surprise to actually enjoy her dinner. But Sid being Sid immediately made her laugh about the antics he had with his patients and how although it had been a long day he enjoyed every second of it. As she watched him recap his day she had a glowing smile on her face and then she too contributed stories from her day. And as they exchanged the goods and bads of their day they ate through dinner and had reached dessert. Ridz got up to get the "dessert" from the kitchen and told Sid to go ahead and get comfortable on the couch. She quickly grabbed what she had prepared earlier in the day and came back to the living room.
Sid had just relaxed on the couch and was flipping channels trying to find something to watch when he heard Ridz coming from the kitchen so he automatically started to shift towards the corner so she could sit down in her favorite seat. He knew instinctively the second she entered the room and he waited for her to come but instead of sitting next to him and fighting him for control over the remote she came and sat down in front of him. He muted the TV and sat up waiting to hear what she had to say because she definitely had something to tell him it was written all over her face. Since she was taking her sweet time to get started on what it was she had to talk about he took the time to try and look for clues to see if what she had to say would be good or bad. He was the glow in her face, the light of excitement in her eyes and he knew that what she had to say was definitely something that was making her happy. She finally burst, "Sid I have a surprise for you," she said with giddiness. "I know it's still a month away until our first anniversary, but I couldn't hold it in any longer. Besides I think it will be more fun if you get to join in early. So this is most definitely an early anniversary gift and don't expect anything on the day of okay," she warned. Sid simply nodded his head innocently and smiled while he looked at her in curiosity. Once she got his approval she pulled out what she had been holding behind her back and handed it to him with an anticipatory smile on her face.
Sid took the envelope Ridz held out to him and opened it slowly. When he pulled out and looked at what was inside his heart skipped a beat. He looked up at her trying to comprehend what it meant. She simply nodded her head and said, "We started off on a very rocky road, and our marriage wasn't in the best of circumstances. I want our first anniversary to reflect how we have grown as a couple and I want to start of this year the way it should have been from the beginning. I want us to renew our vows in front of the people we love." Sid felt his heart fill with love for this woman who sat in front of him. He reread the card he held in his hand:
Siddhant and Riddhima Modi would like to invite you to the renewal of their wedding vows on their first anniversary.
Please come to our farm house on February 22nd 2011
You were all kind enough to join us for the first one we would love for you to rejoin us as we celebrate our love for each other.
Ridz waited for Sid's reaction and when he didn't respond she started to get nervous. She started wondering if he was really happy with their marriage. If he wanted to tell her he loved her in front of their family and friends. She really didn't want to cancel especially after all the people she had gotten involved and the preparations that had begun. So she tried to sell him on it by describing what exactly she had in mind, "Sid don't get me wrong, I know we are already married so of course this is not going to be another wedding. I just want something small and intimate. Just our family and our close friends people who know us and love us. I want us to take those promises again as we continue on our journey in life together." Sid's throat was clogged, he tried clearing it but it just wouldn't. He knew Ridz was babbling and it was all because she was getting nervous that he didn't like the idea when the truth was the complete opposite. He loved the idea and he loved it even more because it was her idea. Riddhima was the one that wanted to confirm to the world that they belonged to each toher, that they loved each other. He knew he wouldn't be able to get those words out any time soon, so instead he chose to show Ridz how happy he was. He leaned forward and wrapped his arms around her and hugged her tight and all he said was, "It's perfect."
Ridz was abruptly interrupted from her ramblings when Sid leaned forward and hugged her tight. She was shocked initially that all she could do was return the hug. But then she realized what that hug meant. Her Siddhant was telling her that he didn't just love the idea, but he was so overwhelmed that he couldn't put it into words. So he showed it in his actions like he always did. Sid was always showing her his love for her. It took her a long while to figure it out, that if you wanted to know what Sid was really thinking, what he was really feeling then you didn't listen to the words he spoke, but what his actions projected. But now that Ridz had taken the time to not only get to know the Sid that she was too bitter to bother understanding earlier, but had fallen head over heels in love with she knew what too look for and what everything he said and did meant. But then Sid removed any possibility of doubts by actually speaking out loud what he was showing her with his hug "It's perfect" he said. And Ridz squeezed him tighter as she laughed with joy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next morning Ridz was woken up with a sweet kiss on a cheek and the smell of fresh coffee. She naturally turned towards the coffee and Sid pretended to be offended. "I can't believe it? You proposed to me yesterday and I agreed to marry you so that no other man has to be terrified for the rest of his life and you don't even have the decency to greet me a with a kiss. Instead you dive for the coffee?" Ridz spit out the second sip of coffee she was sipping, "Whaa...What do you mean I proposed to you?" Sid calmly responded, "Well whom asked whom about the wedding? It was you that asked me wasn't it?" Ridz replied, "Well yeah. But you know that's not what I meant. Besides we are already married so I couldn't have possibly asked you to marry me. But I will explain why I went for the coffee first. You see coffee is bitter so I figured I would save the sweet delicious kiss for after," and with that parting shot she got up with a wink and give kiss a quick peck on the cheek and walked towards the bathroom. Sid shook his head at once again getting one upped by his wife and head downstairs to finish making breakfast.
Ridz took off her jewelry before heading into the shower and started to sing as she washed her hair. She stepped out of the shower feeling giddy with the excitement of planning her vow renewal with her sister and friends. She got dressed and went to put on her jewelry but couldn't find her wedding ring. She looked everywhere and it was nowhere to be found. She dropped to her knees and looked under the sink around the toilet still nothing. She walked out into the bedroom and checked her dresser but the only rings she could find were the ones she had bought herself. Ridz started to panic, What the...today was supposed to be the perfect day and now if Sid finds out I lost the ring he gave me he's going to either get mad or think that I was just suggesting this out of duty. Uggh how I have come to hate that word, especially when it comes out of that man's mouth. Ridz was contemplating whether or not to tell Sid about her losing the ring when he called for her to let her know breakfast was ready. She quickly went to grab a random ring and place it on her finger when she remembered that she still had the first ring Sid had given to her. She opened her jewelry box and there it lay winking at her as if calling out to her. She quickly grabbed it and slipped it on her finger and headed downstairs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sid and Ridz went to work the next day and planned on telling all the others about their plans and inviting them to the celebration. They had discussed it over breakfast and both decided that they needed to make sure to emphasize to the others that they wanted this to be small celebration. That they didn't want it to get out of control. So as they walked hand in hand into the hospital they headed straight to the briefing room so that duties could be assigned and the announcement could be made. As Sid's and grasped Ridz's he realized that the ring on her finger wasn't the one he had given her in the stairwell. "Riddhima, why are you wearing this ring today? I haven't seen this since I gave you the second one to you." Riddhima knew it was coming and in a way she was glad that he had finally asked because she knew there was nothing that escaped Sid's notice, especially when it came to her. In fact, he was always the first one to notice when she cut her hair not even Shilpa or Sue would notice it but he always would. So she responded, "I thought since we were getting remarried I would put on the original ring to make it feel more authentic." Sid's face glowed in appreciation and he lifted up her hand and kissed it. She felt guilty for telling Sid that the reason behind wearing the ring was something as sweet as he believed when the truth was that she had lost it.
Before the guilt could get overwhelming they entered the room everyone else had already gathered and were occupied with their usual morning activities. JP and Jiggy were ogling the nurses as they walked by the room trying to one up each other to see who would get a date with one of them. Sue and Yuvi were laughing as they discussed the latest issue of MotorBikes. Meanwhile, Armaan and Shilpa sat across from each eyeing each other with anger. Clearly they had had another fight last night and were still brewing at each other. Sid and Ridz walked in and instead of taking their respective seats they stood at the front of the room and waited to get everyone's attention. It was clear after a few seconds that they wouldn't be getting it without some intervention so Sid began with, "Hey guys before we get started Riddhima and I wanted to tell you something." JP Jiggy Sue and Yuvi stopped their conversations and all looked up with interest. Of course Armaan and Shilpa were still fighting so Sid tried calling them but when they didn't respond to a single call of his, he cleared his throat and yelled, "ENOUGH!!!" Armaan and Shilpa both stopped and turned to look at Sid with shock in their eyes. Shilpa had the decency to look embarrassed at being caught arguing like three year olds, Armaan simply rolled his eyes at Shilpa and scoffed quietly, "Dhano".
Now that Sid had gotten everyone's attention he looked at Ridz to see if she wanted to make the announcement or not. When she just squeezed his hand and gave him a smile he continued, "As I was saying, before I get to assigning duties, Riddhima and I wanted to tell you all something." Sid passed out enevelopes to all of the members and as they started opening it and before Sid could actually say it Ridz burst out, "Sid and I are renewing our vows on our anniversary and we want all of you to come." Sid just shook his head at Ridz's lack of control and then continued, "We also want to emphasize that we want this to be small and intimate since this is not our wedding but rather renewal of our vows." Everyone immediately jumped up with smiles and congratulations ringing from their mouths. They all hugged the happy couple and then after duties were assigned broke off to their respective sites. Whispers of excitement were heard as they all headed out. Sid and Ridz watched the gang file out and as they each looked at each other Sid said aloud, "I hope you know it's going to virtually impossible to keep them from doing what they want right?" Ridz nodded her head in agreement and said, "Yeah I do. But we can hope can't we?" Sid simply laughed and said, "All the hope in the world is not going to keep JP and Jiggy from coming up with ridiculous party plans. Those two only need the slightest reason to throw one and we just gave them giant reason to. And that too a whole month in advance." Both Sid and Ridz shivered at the thought of the previous parties JP and Jiggy had thrown and then laughed at how they had a feeling they had just lost the reigns of control by telling their friends.
