Geet Handa walked out of Khurana construction feeling stifled and wanting rather needing fresh air. It was suffocating to be inside and in her mind; the whole Dev-Brij-Maan thing was playing like a movie in Technicolor.
Her life had become a joke or was about to and she did not know who to believe or what to do. She had started building a life for herself and her baby but now that too had come crashing down…..again.
She walked aimlessly when a hand on her shoulder stopped her. Without turning she knew who it belonged too. That hand had actually helped her learn to walk but that very hand had tried to kill her a few months ago too. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before turning to face Brij's anger filled eyes.
"Geet…….this is the shame we were talking about" he starts when Geet raises her hand to stop him.
"Don't start….ok….do not start your lecture on morality with me…..what did I do wrong? You got me married….forcibly to that …that creep….why? I'll tell you why…..as my family….people like you….think girls are a burden….so get them married soon or they will spoil the family name…… like in barbaric times…..without my wish you got me married…..I accepted it…..he…my so called husband….took his right over me…I accepted it…..he left me high and dry and you told me to accept it as if nothing had happened…..as if I am a toy…….I have no feelings…..I accepted that too….why? Just for the so called family honor…..but then you all…you all" Geet broke into tears, unable to forget or let go of the deep pain her family had given her.
"Geet……you have written tears in your fate…..we did try to get you to abort this bas***d child" Brij's face convulses in anger when Geet slaps him hard. He takes a step forward, his eyes blazing.
"D…Don't you dare……don't you dare call my child a bas***d…OK" Geet's eyes match the fire in her brother's.
"You stupid girl" he takes her hair and pulls her closer, forgetting that they were on the street and were being watched by a pair of very angry dark eyes.
Maan had stepped out of the office to escort his grandma out. He was just looking around and trying to wrap his mind around the morning's events when his eyes landed on Geet and her barbaric brother a few feet away. He knew by their body language that the two were fighting and was about to turn and leave them to themselves when he had heard a scream from Geet, ordering him to leave her. Brij was trying to drag a fighting, kicking Geet somewhere by her hair. This for some unknown reason made him mad and without another thought, he ran towards Geet.
"You shameless girl…..you flaunt your pregnancy and blame us…..us who are trying to knock some sense into your thick brain….today I will finish what that Khurana chap stopped" Brij whispers viciously, dragging his sister out of the public eye to finish the job he was out on bail for.
"Leave me…..you have no right to decide what I should do with my life" Geet screamed at him. Once again she was powerless in her brother's hands. She cursed the moment she had ventured out alone. She shouldn't have trusted him but should have called the police on him.
"Really? You chit of a girl" he mocked her when suddenly Geet is released and she turns to look that her brother was on the road and Maan, once again her savior was standing glaring at Brij, who he had kicked to the road.
"You should know that you are not God Brij……how dare you lay your hand on her?" he asked in an anger laced voice.
Brij gets up and glares back angrily at Maan. "Why do you care? You don't even believe her when she told you the truth…..now suddenly you are worried about her?" he asks.
"I don't care about the truth…..but don't you dare lay a hand on a woman" he warns him, his eyes flashing fire.
"A woman?" Brij laughs humorlessly, "A woman your brother doesn't respect but you do?" he asks his eyes narrowed.
"I don't want to get into this…..you get me….just leave her alone and assume she is dead" Maan suggests and Brij looks at him and smirks.
"Dead……Maan Singh Khurana……why are you worried about her?" he questions unblinking.
"I am not……but she is a human being…get it….you can't treat her like a dog" he spits out.
Geet, who had been hearing the exchange walks and stands between the two warring men who look at her shocked.
"You two are the same…..fighting over me? My own brother tries to kill me for his fault and the other saves me but as soon as the whiff of the truth comes to him, he throws me out too…..I don't need either of you….so stop fighting" she tells them, tears flowing down her beautiful but sad face and leaves back for the office.
"Brij Handa…..next time I'll kill you if you touch Geet and I won't repeat my words" Maan warns him and turns to run after Geet, who was running with tears blinding her eyes, right into the oncoming traffic.
She hated the drama her life had turned into. At every turn she discovered how alone she was.At every turn, she was paying for someone else's mistakes.
She kept running towards the office, trying to run from her broken heart, her own brother and also her savior Maan. So muddled were her thoughts that she didn't see the approaching car which honked at her like crazy.
"Geet" Maan screamed her name. That stupid woman was running right into a speeding car. He ran behind her and lunged at her in the nick of time, grabbing her by the waist and jumping with her to the side. To break her fall, he takes her weight on himself and luckily, lands on the sand lying by the side of the road.
Geet had closed her eyes in fear and clung to Maan. She slowly opens her eyes to see him watching her angrily.
"S…sorry" she apologizes and gets up. She extends her hand towards Maan who shoots her an angry glare but tries to get up on his own unsuccessfully. A sharp pain shoots through his left shoulder but he manages to get up on his own accord. Geet peers closer and looks at his scratches and the blood coming out of that.
"You need to go to the hospital…..get a tetanus shot" she declares.
"Don't tell me what I need…..are you blind Geet? You could have died and the way you were running? Don't you care about your child?" he questions her unable to believe that she could be so careless. At his question about her child her eyes shoot to his and he watches pain rise in them but she quickly hides that emotion.
"I think you need a doctor" she replies and starts walking towards KC and orders the guard to call for Maan's car.
"You need to come to the hospital too" Maan says awkwardly to her retreating back and she freezes mid-step.
"Why?" she asks, refusing to look at the pity in his eyes.
"Who knows what happened to you in that fall…..I'd rather you get it checked" he replies softly.
"Why do you care?" she finally turns to face him.
"For the simple fact, that I don't won't have you suing me for saving your life" he replies coldly and she nods. Now she knew for a fact that Maan didn't believe her story regarding Dev.
"Fine" she snaps and waits for the car. However angry she was, her mind told her that it would be in her and her child's interest to get checked.
They reach the hospital and Maan insists that Geet get checked while he took care of his injuries and Geet agrees and slowly walks behind the nurse, trembling as she hated hospitals and today she was alone there, with not a single person to comfort her.
Maan takes the shot and some painkillers and while he is walking out, he chances to ask at the reception if his brother had come here and getting the information, he decides to meet him and see if he was feeling alright.
He heads towards the room the nurse had pointed him to and when he reaches the open door, he hears Naintara telling Dev, "Before Maan Virji gets to know the truth; we should take care of Geet and that stupid child she is carrying for good. Else we won't get the money Dadima is about to hand over to you" and Maan hides himself quickly, not wishing to be seen and listens in shock to Naintara and his stepbrother's tirade against Geet, who had been telling him the truth, nothing but the truth.
