PART 3
Riddhima was wandering in the hallway, trying to think of a plan to appease Armaan, but since the past half hour, all she could think of was that he knew her name. After reflecting on the whole cafeteria scene, she realized that Armaan called her by her name for the first time' so he's been calling me random names just to irritate me!?... Armaan you're so lucky, if I wasn't trying to be nice to you right now, I certainly would have confronted you about this whole name-calling thing'
After spending an hour thinking about Armaan, Riddhima finally accepted that she needed Nikki's help. Only Nikki knew how to deal with guys and she could certainly help Riddhima in her mission to make Armaan happy before the game started.
"Hey Nikki, I need your help dude," Riddhima said while catching up with Nikki who was walking to her car.
"Hey Ridzy, wasup? Why do you need my help? Wait, let me tell you that I'm not going to help you in making Armaan any more miserable today, because you'"
"Heyyy, why do you always think so negatively about me? I'm not that mean to Armaan," Riddhima said in a slightly offended tone.
"Ok, chill, fine tell me what you need my help in?" Nikki genuinely asked.
"K, well' ummm'." Riddhima tried to arrange her thoughts, while Nikki rolled her eyes.
"Riddhima, I'm waiting, and I have to go to my dance class after this, so can you tell me what exactly is going on in that head of yours?" Nikki said exasperatedly.
"I need your help in making Armaan smile!" Ridhhima said in one quick, short breath.
Nikki suddenly had a huge grin on her face, "Ooooh, to yeh baat hai, well Ridzy I'll definitely help you, but first I need you to confess to me what you've already confessed to yourself."
"Uff, Nikki, k so I don't actually hate Armaan, and I don't think he has a goofy-smile, in fact he has the cutest smile ever, and he is a really nice guy, and he is really smart, oh and he is really good-looking, and he is a great basketball player, and'"
"Achcha baba, I got it, now stop praising Armaan, and answer my one question, do you like him?"
Riddhima blushed profusely, all the excitement that was gushing out of her when talking about Armaan's endless list of qualities, came to an abrupt stop. She tried looking away, but finally met Nikki's gaze and admitted in a quieter tone, "Yea Nikki, I do like him. I like him more than a stranger, more than a fellow classmate, more than a friend' I'm not sure how deeply I feel about him Nikki, but I know that my feelings for him are much different than what all the other girls feel for him. Suvarna or his ex-girlfriends may feel something for him, but what I feel is not a fleeting attraction. Gosh Nikki, my feelings for him have been developing since I first saw him volunteering at the hospital and consoling the boy whose mother was injured in the car accident. I don't know if it is infatuation, or love, and I don't care. All I know is that I really like Armaan, my feelings are very genuine. And you were right, the reason why I fight with him is because I want his attention, but that's the only way I can talk to him."
Nikki just smiled at her friend while Riddhima continued staring at and fiddling with her phone. On an impulse, Nikki hugged Riddhima and said, "Ridzy, I knew you always felt for him, but I didn't know that he was so important for you. And yes, I know that your feelings are on a much different level than what those snobby cheerleaders claim to feel about their 'Ammy'."
Riddhima gave Nikki a smile, she felt good about finally sharing her feelings with someone, and Nikki was the only one who could truly understand her emotions.
"K Ridzy I have to hurry now, if I don't get to dance class on time then that Suvarna will try to take my spot as the lead dancer, bye."
Nikki was about to rush down the stairs when Riddhima yelled, "Hey, what about helping me out with Armaan?" Riddhima pouted.
Nikki grinned and said, "Ridzy, Armaan is a very forgiving person, just say sorry to him and he'll be fine!" And then she disappeared into the parking lot, leaving a content Riddhima behind.
Riddhima grabbed her purse, and headed for her car. While driving home, she suddenly remembered how much Armaan loved aloo parathas' He's such a child, I still remember the twinkle in his eyes when he realized that his dadi had packed him aloo parathas for lunch on his birthday' that's what I'll do! I'll make aloo parathas for him so he cheers up before the game and then I'll say sorry' wow Ridzy, that's the best idea you've had all day'
The game was about to start in another half hour and Riddhima had looked all over the school for Armaan. Finally she spotted him with two other guys, and of course Suvarna with her Barbie dolls following her trail. She took a deep breath seeing the chipku in her extra-mini cheerleading outfit and walked towards Armaan. As soon as Armaan saw her, he remembered his last encounter with this wild girl and he tried to walk away when she called out to him.
"Hey Armaan, listen, I'm extremely sorry about this morning, I don't know what got over me," she gave a side glance to Suvarna, " and I really want to apologize and wish you best of luck for your game. I know you'll bring home a victory." Riddhima smiled at him, hoping he would forgive her.
Armaan smiled and decided to let go of the issue, "it's ok Riddhima, and I'm sorry too for the water bottle."
"No Armaan, please don't embarrass me anymore, umm by the way I got you something," Riddhima said hesitantly, not sure how he'd react to the parathas.
Armaan was very surprised at this, in the morning the girl throws pasta on my head, and every other day she argues with me over nothing, and now she's apologizing and has brought something for me? "okayyy, I hope its not more pasta," Armaan chuckled.
Riddhima gave a small smile and offered him the parathas. Opening up the little container, Armaan was pleasantly surprised to see his favorite aloo parathas. He smiled his dimple-wali smile and devoured a bite instantly, which made Riddhima grin as well.
"Oh my gosh Riddhima, these are delicious! Did you make them?"
Riddhima had the urge to take all the credit, but chose to tell the truth instead, "Partially, yes, I cut the potatoes, and my mum did the rest," Riddhima said sheepishly.
"That's so sweet Riddhima thanks, I can't eat anymore right know because of the game, but I'll definitely finish them up tonight. Say thanks to your mom too, and tell her that these are delicious."
"Sure, and good luck for the game," Riddhima smiled whole-heartedly and wished him.
Finally Suvarna intervened, "Obviously Riddhima, Ammy is definitely going to make lots of goals tonight."
Riddhima smirked and walked away, while Arman explained to Suvarna that in basketball, you make baskets, not goals!
like always, comments and criticisms are very welcome...
