"Mahiiiiiiiiiiii………………" a 9yr old boy was running down the garden….excitement all over his face…
"yaha ho tum…pura ghar dhund kar aya hu mein…"
Breathless…he stopped in front of a 7yr old girl...she turned the other side with her coloring book…."tyu aye…mudhe tumte baat nai talni…"

No response.
"bolo na kya hua"…he tries lifting her chin to make her face him…she jerks off his hand…
" dao yaha te…hum thuba milne wale the na…ab to thaam bhi ho dayi!!!" she turns away…
"sorry …me tumhare liye kuch lane gaya…aur late ho gya…" he happily puts his hand forward … hanging from his tiny palm was a silver chain with red heart shaped pendant in it…

"ha..aaj valentines day hai na…"

"valentines day…papa ne kaha ki jisse hum pyaar karte hai…use aaj gift dete hai…aur wish karte hai…un hone mumma ko aisa hi ek gift diya…aur…" he blushes..and looks down…

He is still blushing…making designs on the ground with his foot…
"gaulav…bolo na…"
He moves closer to her…and kisses on her cheek…and whispers…" I…love you…"
She puts her little palm on her mouth in shock….."ale…kya bol lahe ho….ye to bale log bolte hai…"
"nahi Mahi…hum jisse bhi pyaar karte hai…use bol sakte hai…jab me bada ho jaunga…tabhi bhi bolunga…"
She is still staring him in surprise…." Nai nai…jab bale honde…tab bolna…" she hands him the chain back…
"kya tum bhi na…kaha na…jab bada ho jaunga…tab firse bol dunga…aur tab auuurr bada gift dunga"…spreads his arms wide to show…"ab ke liye tum ise pehenlo…" he moves forward and puts it around her neck…"ise hamesha apne pass rakhna…"
He moves back…and smiles at her…she nods obediently….
He smiles…a tear forms at the corner of his eyes…his wipes it carefully with his thumb.…it was a silent night…the street was empty…not a figure in sight…only the long…empty road… that lay in front of him…he was walking slowly...thinking of the years that passed…so quickly……
He turns to his left….watches her…silently walking beside him…
"Raj kaisa hai Mahi...?"
"….acha hai…", she smiles..
"…….khush ho na tum??"
"…..hmm…bohot…"
Her silky soft hair was flying due to the cool breeze…and she was constantly trying to put them back …the palms of her hands were dark in mehendi….and a beautiful radiance covered a face…..
"thanks for coming…Mahi…at this hour…" . It was past 11pm…
"ab tum mujhe thanks kahoge….kafi badal gaye hai Mr.Gaurav London me rehkar…"
He smiles…weakly…looks the ground…
His heart was beating faster…he was suppressing something inside…which couldnt stay there any longer….both are walking slowly….matching each others pace…
"how is ur work going Gaurav?"
"….fine…"
He closes his eyes tight…composing himself…his heart…he jerks his eyes open… and looks away from her…she was looking in front…unaware…
"tumne…bataya nahi…tumhe…Raj…kaisa laga Gaurav..?"
"…hmm…", he nods,"…nice guy….".
"ghar par sab ko hi acha laga…"she smiles, "isiliye maine bhi…ha kardi…"
His breathing was getting harder…
He kicks off a stone that comes in his way….it goes jumping…making sharp sounds… and joins the pebbles nearby…
He looks up to her….his intense eyes speaking volumes…speaking about the emotional turmoil in him…..either his heart would explode to a thousand pieces….or his eyes would pour out everything for him…but he shouldn't let either of that in front of her now..not one day before her marriage.……
But why couldn't she see it…see it in his eyes…why didn't she ever understand…in all those years that they spent together…..and the few years he was apart…in London…why was a there a need to use words…to tell her…how much he….he never felt the need to….they were so close…it was understood…there could be no third person…..only the two of them…but…it was too late now…too late for anything…
He turned to face the road again…and started walking…
This was the last time he was with her…he would leave the place at night…and leave forever…he had decided…he had come only for this…..a last meeting with her…to see her enough…to feel her presence for the last time….so that he could live the rest of his life with it…
They stopped walking…and looked up to see her house in front…beautifully decorated…with flowers and lights….for the following days' occasion….the long walk had ended too quickly…
He gasped…and turned to her…for a final look…his Mahi…she was smiling at him…his eyes capturing every bit of her…to keep forever…her adorable face…honey eyes..beautiful smile…his vision got blurred…tears had swelled up…he wanted to say so much…it was overflowing…yet he couldn't…..his eyes and heart didn't want to leave her for a second….he was suffocating now…
"main…chalu Gaurav…kafi late ho gya…."
He is breathing heavily…."Mahi……", …. Looking intently and deeply in her eyes….
His wristwatch strikes 12…he looks at her with heavy heart and eyes…."Happy Valentines day Mahi….."
He moves closer…kisses her cheek….tears start to flow now…"I…love you… Mahi…love you…a lot…(crying now)….love you…(kisses again)…I always will…always...", ……he moves back…taking small steps behind…moving away from her…tears continuously flowing…
He finally turns…and walks away…on the lonely road again…away from his life….forever…
Here…she watches him go……tears flowing down her eyes….she sits down there….slowly crying …she pulls the red pendant from behind her dupatta…."itni der kyu laga di Gaurav....itni der kyu.."…she kisses it…and bursts out crying…
The next morning…
She looks up at Raj…who gives her an assuring smile…then at her parents and father-in law…happiness was everywhere…she turns to her bridegroom besides her….n whispers to him……"Happy Valentines day Gaurav"
He smiles back…"wish u d same"
