"Well you will get it by the end of the day" she replies, her voice quiet and Abhimanyu feels a pang of guilt to having taunted her like this. He knew the relation between the father and daughter but he had been unable to stop himself

Nikki tries to get the introduction part of the presentation ready but Abhimanyu's words keep coming back to haunt her.
Her father was a successful cardiothoracic surgeon and he had never had any time for family. All she had ever seen was her parents fight and as a result had begged to be sent to boarding school. Whenever she had gone home, all she had seen was bitterness which had lingered to this day and made her wary of relationships.
No, she had no complaints about their love for her. She knew she was loved immensely by both her parents but she had never been able to see them fight. Everything had been fine till they had started to fight over her. That had been the last straw and she decided to move away from them and that vacation she had chosen to spend with her grandmother in Manali and had met Prithvi.
A smile settles on her face.
Prithvi….he was special to her. He was the one person in her life who she could go to advice for as he had calm and mature head on his shoulder and the only person who never got angry with her. It meant a lot to her as she knew that otherwise Prithvi had absolutely no patience with girls.
He had met the lonely young girl walking in her grandmother's garden and had asked her, if she remembered correctly, "Hey you…..pink ribboned girl….can you please throw the ball my way?"
"Be careful about Nani next time" she had thrown the warning with the ball.
"I am your Nani's favorite" he had replied seriously and it had irked Nikita no end. She was used to being her Nani's favorite and she did not enjoy being told otherwise.
"Oh, only when I am not here" she replied haughtily and he had laughed outright at her.
"Well you aren't here most of the time and I can live with that" he said and for some reason that had made her mad and she threw a stone at him which missed his eye but hit right above it and he started bleeding profusely.
Nikki was scared out of her wits and had turned to run away but then turned back towards him with tears in her eyes and called for help. Everyone asked him how he had gotten hurt but Prithvi had read the fear in Nikki's eyes and told everyone that he had slipped and fallen, trying to retrieve the ball.
The next day a shy Nikita had walked into the Saxena household asking for Prithvi. She walked into his room and tears had spilled out of her eyes while she asked for forgiveness.
"Don't cry like a girl "he had chided her and for the first time in her life she had been lovingly consoled by the very person she had hurt. That was the last day they had fought and had been inseparable since.
Prithvi like a big brother she never had, had taught her horse riding, swimming, trekking and had been a good listener. He was the giver in their relationship and had always been there for Nikki when she had needed any suggestion, advice or just someone to listen to her broken heart and he was the person she had run to when she had fallen in love with Armaan.
Nikki sighed, coming back to the present. She was so happy to have Prithvi back in her life that the smile refused to leave her face.
She was over Armaan once she had run away to Manali and had talked and cried on Prithvi's shoulder. He had listened intently and let her mope for a few days. Then one day when she was in her bed, eating chocolate, he had barged into her room, unceremoniously dragged her from the bed, kicking and screaming and dumped her in the pool, fully clothed.
"What the hell was this?" Nikki had sputtered, not understanding whether to laugh at his antic or scream in frustration or get mad at his high handed behavior.
"This is how I know to get you out of your self created pity party Nikki…..it's enough now….you are acting as if he broke your heart…..get this into the head of yours…..this is just an infatuation…..and you have had enough time to mope…..now stop it" Prithvi gives her a piece of his mind and Nikki looks daggers at him.
"What do you know" she mutters to herself, pushing her self out of the pool.
"I do know that LOVE is stupid…..so I stay away from it" he sits on his haunches trying to help her out.
"You will eat your words one day Prithvi….but for today…here" Nikki pushes him in the pool and laughs when he comes out sputtering.
"Crazy girl….you ok now?" he asks patting her cheek and she hugs him.
"Thanks big bro" she teases and he shakes with laughter.
"You are welcome little sis" he tugs her hair and Nikki rushes behind him to take revenge.
"Dr. Nikita…..this way you are never going to get the presentation done" Abhimanyu's crisp voice interferes in her thoughts and wipes the smile of her face.
Her eyes flashing with annoyance, Nikki looks up at him and sees him watching her like a hawk.
"Don't you have any other work or you get paid to harass me?" she asks, knowing full well that this was going to irritate him.
"Well I should get a raise for having to deal with you" he replies back, not reacting as she had expected.
"Then don't deal with me" she pouts and looks away.
"You OK?" Abhimanyu asks and Nikki looks at him taken aback by his query. Never had she thought that she would hear him utter these words to her.
"Yeah I am" she snapped back in reply and Abhimanyu nods his head and turns her computer to face him, so he can look at her work.
"What do you think you are doing?" she tries to turn the computer back towards her but they tussle for a while and finally Nikki gives up making a face.
"Brute" she mutters under her breath while he raises and eyebrow and ignores her words and starts going through her presentation.
Irritated by his behavior and also angry on herself for not having completed the work, Nikki taps her feet impatiently. She knew the man before her would mince no words in telling her how exactly her presentation was and she also knew that she hadn't done a great job.
"Stop fidgeting Dr. Nikita" Abhi looks at her and she looks away.
"It's a rough draft" she mutters.
"A promising first draft" she hears him say and looks at him with surprised eyes. She couldn't believe that he had not found faults but had almost praised her instead. She gapes at him stunned and sees a small smile curve his handsome mouth.
Nikki blinks. Had she just thought that the hateful Abhimanyu Modi was handsome? She was definitely out of her mind. She needed help and that too psychiatric help.
"Are you done staring?" Abhi asks and Nikki blushes pink. Not had she only thought he was handsome, but had stared at him and to top it all he had caught her doing so. Her mouth opens and closes like a fish.
"I…I ..I was…wasn't st ….staring" she stammers and gets busy collecting her papers when in nervousness all of them fall on the floor. Both of them bend to pick it up and suddenly Nikki turns and almost bangs into Abhimanyu. She stops herself in time but discovers herself too close to him for comfort. Her eyes fly to meet his dark ones, which were fixed on her face. She opens her mouth to say something but nothing comes out of her mouth and she ends up staring into his dark brown eyes and notices tiny gold flecks.
"S….Sorry" she stammers after a full minute and sees him blink and turn his face away. Was she hallucinating or had she caught her boss staring at her? Well she wasn't too sure about that but she sure knew that something was wrong with her as she was noticing every single thing about him.
"Summer" she murmurs.
"Excuse me?" Abhi asks his voice a little gruff.
"Summer….your perfume" she replies and then colors suddenly. Something was wrong with her. She was telling the hateful man that she recognized his perfume.
"Wow…..you recognized it" he says and she nods not looking at him.
"I ….I um…I can …I mean that's my favorite perfume" she replies. Why was she giving him so much information? For the life of her she couldn't figure out why she was having this conversation with him.
"The men brand?" he can't help asking.
"Yeah " she shrugs and starts moving away from him.
"Wonder why" he mutters to himself but Nikki catches his conversation with himself and turns in anger towards him.
"Why do you have to wonder? It had nothing to do with the presentation" she snaps at him and he looks at her surprised with her sudden change of behavior.
"Why do you have to jump at my throat like a wildcat? Can't you talk normally like other girls" he asks, his eyes narrowed.
"I am not other girls you get it" she snaps.
"Dr. Nikita….then at least talk with your senior properly" he snaps right back at her stepping closer.
"Then behave like one" she says.
"you know it's impossible to talk to you…..I can not understand what problem you have with me but well coming back to being your senior….now I want this presentation by tonight….also a rough draft of the other interns data" he informs her and turns on his hells before she can utter another word.
"Idiot….stupid….how the hell do you think I will do it?" she shouts at his retreating back and he stops mid stride.
"If you used your mind instead of your tongue, you'd figure that out" he retorts back and walks away leaving a fuming Nikki in his wake.
"Nikki pleasssssse" Armaan begs her.
"No" she replies.
"Why not?" he asks.
He had been bothering her for the last fifteen minutes to be on his team to play against Riddhimma. They both had decided that they could get two friends each, to make it a fair game. He had asked Atul but had found out that as Anjali was in Ridzi's team, he had agreed to play on her behalf too and it had left him with no option but to ask Nikki.
"I have this stupid presentation to take care of…that Idiot wants it today" she tells him.
"It will only be an hour Nikki…please" he tries to coax her.
"Ask Muskaan" she says.
"Have you seen her play? No Nikki …I have to win this….please….are you going to make me beg?" he asks her and Nikki's heart softens for her friend.
"Fine…but just an hour ok?" she says and a happy Armaan envelops her in a bear hug.
"Oh you are the best Niks….I love you" he tells her and she smiles and tells him that she loves him back which is overheard by Abhimanyu, who is surprised at this turn of events.
Prithvi and Damini reach the stables both fuming at the other.
"I want Toofan" Damini makes her choice of the horse and Prithvi shrugs his shoulder.
"I am not dependent on any horse…..I will still beat you" he says confidently and Damini laughs at him.
"We'll see that" she replies and moves ahead to saddle Toofan.
Prithvi chooses a horse and asks its name and he is told its Badal. It reminds him of his horse back in Manali and he decides to saddle her up.
"Ready?" Damini asks him and he nods.
"Well let's go" she orders and he trots behind her horse. She goes into the area she had especially gotten built for her steeple chasing practice.
"Five rounds…..best timing wins" she throws the challenge and all Prithvi does is nod his head.
"You go first she tells him" and he kicks Badal who starts jumping over the obstacles and he smoothly and expertly finishes his five rounds, without ever breaking stride. Damini looks at him with narrowed eyes and understands that he was an accomplished horseman but stubbornly refuses to give up on her thought that he was worth hiring.
"20 minutes" she tells him and moves to start her rounds.
She completes four rounds successfully but as she is starting her last round, Toofan starts acting up.
"Toofan….hush….one last round sweetie" she speaks softly to him but the horse refuses to be soothed and starts neighing and stands up on its hind legs, refusing to be controlled by Damini.
"Toofan" Damini tries to a harder tone but the result is that he tries to throw her off.
Prithvi sees this happening and gets down from Badal and rushes towards the pair.
"I can handle him" Damini tells him off, when he tries to help her to control Toofan which irritates him no end and he simply steps back, letting her deal with him. He had enough of her attitude and now he was going to leave her to handle Toofan.
"I win" he tells her and turns to walk away when he hears her scream.
He turns to find her thrown off Toofan and sees that Toofan is about to trample Damini in agitation. He runs to help her but Toofan is ready to hit her. He throws himself on top of her and tries to roll with her towards safety but Toofan steps on him and he bites his lips in pain. The trainers and other helpers come running and take care of Toofan.
"Get off of me" Damini tries to push Prithvi of from her and sees him bite his lip in pain but still tries to push him off.
With great effort Prithvi rolls off her but when he tries to get up, his leg gives away under him and he tries to bite the curse which comes to his mouth.
Damini turns worried eyes towards him, "What happened?" she asks rudely.
"Nothing" comes the reply.
"Then why don't you get up?" she asks, her voice turning a bit concerned.
"Because I think my leg is broken" he replies.
