Part 3 - The Hearts Met, Just For A Moment
The two girls were starting their scooties when a gleaming blue Porsche convertible came to halt in front of the small house.
"In khatarao ko kal se use kar lena, aaj saath chalte hai." The boy in the driver's seat said.
"How dare you call my bike khatara?" One of the girls took off her helmet and marched towards the car while the other followed.
"Khatara ko khatara nahi bolunga to kya Ducati bolunga?" He gave a curt reply and got into an argument with her.
"Naina, lad kal liyo abhi chal varna late ho jayenge." The other one said as she sat down on the passenger seat besides the guy. The other girl climbed into the back seat with a pout.
"Naina, dekh Drishti ko, apni behen se kuch seekh." The guy said as they drove off towards their destination.
"Sid, shut up. You dare not say anything to my sister!" Drishti warned Sid.
"Gabbar's back!" Sid said rolling his eyes. Suddenly Drishti's phone rang. "AB!" The three of them said together. She put it on loudspeaker and Naina leaned forward to be in range.
"Good morning bro!" Drishti said.
"Hey bhai!" Naina shouted.
"Hi AB!" Sid said.
"Great to teeno musibatein ek saath hai!"
"Yep!" Naina replied. Their brother meant life to them, especially to Naina.
"Drish tujhe to kuch bolne ki zaroorat nahi hai." AB said at which Drishti smiled. "Lekin tum dono idiots! Sanjeevani..."
"...is not a joke." Sid said.
"Right! you've to..."
"...stop acting like kids and start acting like mature doctors." Naina said. This was a speech they had learnt by heart since they'd been hearing it ever since they'd got their joining letters.
"Yes! and Dr. Shashank..."
"....doesn't tolerate any kind of misbehavior." Sid completed.
"He's..."
"...a very strict doctor but you can learn a lot from him."
"Achcha achcha theek hai. Tum log jaante ho mai kya bolunga! Toh all the best and enjoy!"
"Bye bro!" Three of them said as Sid parked the car in the parking lot as Naina jumped put.
He stopped his car in the parking lot and looked at the building in front of him. A place where he wanted to be always, his aim, his destination. Where he knew he'd be transformed into a vigilant doctor unlike the one who'd led to the death of his uncle who was like a father to him.
He got out of the car and walked to towards the gate with a feeling of pride. Now no other kid will lose their last support because of careless doctors, he'll make sure of that.
"Race you to the main door!" Sid said as he got out of the car. Drishti rolled her eyes at them and went in before they decided upon this race.
"I'll beat you today!" Naina said.
"Huh' in your dreams!" Sid said and ran before Naina could realize. As soon as she realized that she ran behind him.
The area just inside the main door was being mopped. Naina was running blindly and didn't realize when she slipped. She shut her eyes tight waiting for her body to crash land on the floor. But she didn't feel anything' surprisingly she didn't feel any pain but feel a grip over her waist, something or better say someone had broken her fall.
She creaked open her one eye and saw a guy looking directly at her with his arms around her. She looked at him registering his face for sometime but a sudden sound made her get out of her thoughts. She jerked up and pushed him away.
"Get off me!" She said throwing his arms off her.
"Hey... little miss attitude. Maine nahi kaha tha tumhe ki meri baahon me aake giro. Tumhe toh thanks kehna chahiye." He said looking at this ungrateful girl in front of him.
"Thanks... mai... aur tumse! Forget it."
"Chalo, I'll think kisi raah chalte ehsaan-faramosh ki madat kar di!" He said and left leaving a fuming Naina with her mouth hanging. Sid came to her to see her looking at someone with her mouth open.
"Kya hua?" Sid asked and Naina told him the whole thing.
"Vo idiot... I'm not gonna leave him!" Naina said fuming as Sid smiled and took her in.
After the inaugural ceremony, they all assembled at the nurse station to get their first duties.
"Hi, hum Farhaan Zaidi." Farhaan said extending a hand in front of Yuvi who stood there leaning by the wall looking at the group of three chatting within themselves.
"Hi, Yuvraj... Yuvraj Oberoi." He said with a smile taking his hand. Suddenly a girl bumped into him.
"I'm very sorry." She said hesitantly.
"It's okay. Are you also an intern here?" Yuvi asked.
"Ji... humara naam Gayatri hai." Gayatri said with a smile.
"Hello Gayatri ji... hum Farhaan hai aur yeh Yuvraj hai." Farhaan said trying to flirt with Gayatri who smiled lightly.
"Hello interns." A booming strict sound disturbed their talks. This was Dr. Keerti as you'd have already guessed. "I'm Dr. Keerti Prabhakar, I'm a resident doctor here and Sanjeevani's gynecologist. I'm going to be the one dictating the duties to you. All of you have to follow the rules and I'll tolerate no exceptions. You'll report directly to me for anything. You'll always keep your pagers on and can be called at anytime." Dr. Keerti said with absolutely no expression on her face.
"Dr. Yuvraj Oberoi and Dr. Drishti Mathur, General Ward. Sister Stella vahan hai vo aapko aapka kaam samjha dengi. Dr. Naina Mathur and Dr. Farhaan Zaidi, OPD me, vahan aapko Dr. Dikshit milenge jo aap sabke OPD supervisor honge. Dr. Siddhant Mehra and Dr. Gayatri Mahant, you'll be assisting Dr. Divya today. You'll meet her right here, she'll be here in twenty minutes." Dr. Keerti said and left after handing them their pagers and ID cards.
"Hello' I'm Drishti. I think you're Yuvraj, right?" Drishti said coming to Yuvi with a smile extending her hand. Yuvi smirked and left from there putting his stethoscope around his neck leaving Drishti standing there with her mouth hanging.
"Rehne de Drish. He's like that only, khadoos. Yeh vo hi idiot hai jiske bare me mai bol rahi thi." Naina said, she was looking at their interaction from a corner. She had not looked at him earlier as when she was talking to Drishti and Sid, she had her back towards him and neither did he see her.
"Hello ji!" Farhaan said coming to the sister duo who had a surprised look on his face as he saw them.
"Hi." Naina said with a smile. "Hum dono twins hai." Naina explained.
"Oh... mujhe pata tha, itni to biology padhi hai aur common sense bhi hai." Farhaan said grinning broadly at his own stupidity and left with Naina for their duty while Drishti went to the General Ward.
"Hello beautiful!" Sid said coming near Gayatri who was busy noting something in a small diary. "Oooh making notes huh!"
"Ji hum kuch important note kar rahe the." She said closing her diary as Sid tried to peek in. "Kisi aur ki personal diary padhna buri baat hoti hai!"
"Okay sorry, auntyji!" Sid said but before Gayatri could answer Dr. Divya comes there and starts telling them their work.
