Chapter 11 (Part 1):

"Dude!! How do I look??" Benji pulled his collar up to put on the bow tie in his hand.

Samrat paused gelling his hair for a few seconds to give him an incredulous look. "A Bow Tie!!?? Which century are you from?" He smirked and then resumed his craftsmanship with his hair.

Benji looked at the tie in his hand and scratched his head, wondering what was so wrong with it. "You think I should loosen up the tie?" He asked, still doubtful.

Samrat rolled his eyes implying a 'Duh-uh!'. Sighing, Benji did as he was told.

"You think she'll like my hair gelled backwards, or should I go for a messy look?" Samrat asked pensively.

"Do what you want!" Benji replied sourly, still upset over the tie. It was his favourite Sunday tie.

"Will you stop wallowing in self-pity and help me out here?? I think I'm finally going to tell her tonight!" Samrat gave a victorious smile at his image in the mirror as he finally decided on the slightly messy, slightly combed look. It seemed to go well with his leather jacket and black jeans.

Benji dropped the hairbrush from his hand in shock. "You're kidding, right? God! I knew you needed help!!" He rolled his eyes as he bent down to pick it up.

"Why not? I'm only going to tell her that I think she's the prettiest girl in the World, that her smile makes my World go round, that I'm madly and crazily in l---"

"STOP!!!" Benji intervened into his fancy long lecture. "Don't even use the 'L-word' right now!! You think you'll tell her all this and she'll shower you with hugs and kisses??"

"I wouldn't mind that..." Samrat replied dreamily.

Benji stepped forward and shook him harshly. "Time for REALITY CHECK, dude... This girl is NOT YET INTO YOU! You are still working on that, remember?"

Samrat shot him an angry look for shattering his hopes. "I don't know anything; I can't keep it inside me anymore. Besides, she was flirting with me yesterday!" He smiled widely as he remembered that and also the sweet conversation at her house. He was willing to take a chance.

"She was not!!!" Benji exclaimed. "She was??" He asked, just for a confirmation, which Samrat gave by nodding his head vigorously in a yes. "Ok, in that case, I'll just ask you not to say the L-word yet...Atleast you can do that much?"

"What's up with this L-word? Can't you simply say L---"

"Don't say it!!" Benji shuddered. "Just the word gives me the creeps; how can you even feel that way for someone???"

"U mean feel louve for someone?? L-O-V-E, LOVE??" Samrat exaggerated loudly, sensing his annoyance. Benji made a disgusted face as he stuffed his fingers into his ears and rushed out of Samrat's room.

Samrat chuckled as he looked at him escaping. Looking back into the mirror, he smiled at himself confidently. "Today is the day, Chashmish...Can't wait to let you know how I feel..."

He walked towards his bedside table and picked up the huge bouquet of Red roses, that he had specially gotten prepared for this occasion. He smiled as he was reminded of her smile and hoped she would have the same on her face when he'd give this to her.

Gunjan frowned as she peeped from the upper staircase. Papa was still sitting in the hall, sipping on his coffee, leisurely. She couldn't go to the party in front of him without facing his tonnes and millions of questions!!

Dejected, she came back to her room and stood in front of the full view mirror and observed herself for the nth time this evening. She was wearing a straight-cut, off-shoulder navy blue dress that reached a little above her knees and instead of wearing her hair down like usual, she had twisted it around the nape of her neck in an elegant French bun. She was not usually so peaky about how she looked; but tonight was another thing.

Smiling, she walked to her bed, and picked up her cell phone. Her smile widened as she read his message yet again. Hey babes...Can't wait to see you tonight...I'm sure you'll be looking as gorgeous as always...;) ' RV.

Her stomach knotted nervously at the thought of meeting RV. He was such a thorough gentleman, that he had even offered to pick her up for the party. But she didn't want him to face papa's endless interrogation. She shuddered at that thought. Just then her cell rang.

"Hey Annie!" She spoke without any preamble.

"Hey Gunjan..." Annie's loud, squeaky voice filtered through the phone and Gunjan instantly distanced it away from her ear. "Where are you?? The party begins in another half an hour!!!"

She glanced at the clock. It was 6:30. Already? She sighed. "I know Annie...I'm coming!" She replied. "See ya!!"

She disconnected the call and finally decided to face the music. Glossing her lips one last time, she smiled at her reflection, picked up her purse and left the room.

Tiptoeing down the stairs, she decided to make a quiet exit, when she was caught.

"Should have used the window!" Her father remarked from his seat across the hall. She turned around and smiled sweetly at him. He raised his eyebrows at her. "Where are you off to?"

"It's just a housewarming party, papa..." She replied cheerfully.

"Just a party?? I know what happens at these parties!" He commented disapprovingly. "Is your sister going?"

Gunjan sighed. She didn't have to ask her to find out the answer, yet she chose to remain silent.

"Nupurrrr?? Nupurrrr??"

"Haan Papa...Kya hua??" Nupur yelled from top of the stairs.

"You know about some party tonight?"

There was a short silence. "Yes, there's some guy called Benji...He's throwing a party..."

She knows!! She knows!! A ray of hope arose in Gunjan's heart.

"Are you going??"

Another short pause. "No...I'm not!"

Was that hesitation?? Oh my God!! Gunjan ran towards the stairs.

"Please di, come to the party no!!" She ran up the stairs as fast as she could, speaking simultaneously. As a result, she was panting heavily, by the time she was upstairs.

"Relax Gunjan...And no, I'm not coming..." Nupur looked away.

"Please di, for once..." Gunjan paused for a breath "Just for once, don't be my elder sister and be my best friend that you used to be, please?" She finished softly.

Nupur's eyes softened at those words. She so wanted to be her sister's best friend again. But to go to a party? And that too the same party to which Mayank had asked her out?

Gunjan noticed her contemplating silence. "Please di..." She caught her hand "I promise to be good!"

Nupur had to smile at that. Gunjan was always good; that went without saying. She sighed. "Fine...I'll come...I'll just go and change..."

"Should I help you out?" Gunjan asked excitedly.

Nupur chuckled. She grabbed her sister's hand and led her to her own bedroom.

Mayank wiped his hands against his jeans and walked towards the main door. Why was he nervous? He took a few deep breaths. It's all cool...Relax! She doesn't bite....much!

Once pressing the doorbell, he turned around to have a look at the neighbourhood. It was a nice, posh area of Mumbai; pretty expensive too. Seemed like the girl he had asked out was not just a shrew, but a spoilt shrew. Unknowingly, he started smiling as he was reminded of DDLJ... Not so much of a shrew there, was she?

"Yes, young man! Who do you want to meet?" A man's voice made him turn around.

"Good evening Sir... I'm Mayank Sharma...I'm here to pick up Nupur..." Mayank smiled politely, or atleast made an attempt to do that as the man in front of him inspected him from top to bottom as though trying to spot something to his distaste in his blue jeans and black shirt. Probably on finding none, he opened the door a little wider.

"Thank you Sir..." Mayank started to step in when he was stopped by him.

"Don't you try anything funny with my daughter, Mister...I know the Police Commissioner of Mumbai personally." He spoke in a rather threatening tone.

Funny? And with Nupur? Wasn't she enough of a threat? He had a strong urge to laugh out loud, but he chose to keep a straight face.

"Sir, I would never dream of doing that..." He muttered, trying to keep the sarcasm out of his voice.

"You better not!" With this, he was finally allowed entrance. He looked around the huge place. He was from a rather humble background, with his mom and him living alone in a 2-room flat; so this seemed quite a wastage to him.

"Great place you've got here, Sir..." He commented as he took a seat and paused when he saw him shoot a glare at him for disturbing his TV viewing. "Right!" he muttered as he settled deeper into the couch. Glancing at his watch, he sighed. It was already 7:10. He should have come late. Girls were World-famous for taking time to get dressed. But no! He had to come here on time and sit and wait!

"So, what do you do?" The crisp question from Nupur's dad caught him unawares. He felt like yelling - What do I do!? How does that matter??? I'm not here to marry your daughter!!

Instead, he politely replied "I'm in college; the same class as Nupur's."

"You've heard how Teen Pregnancy has suddenly increased tenfold in our country??"

Teen Pregnancy!?!?!? What did that have to ' Oh no! Does he think I'd---?? Oh good god! Mayank felt tiny beads of sweat break on his forehead. This had to be the most uncomfortable he had ever felt.

"Sir, I ' I didn't actually ' actually know that...But thanks for enlightening me."

"Sure, the pleasure is all mine. In fact I can even tell you the number of cases where the guy actually lured the girl---"

"Papa!!!"

Mayank thanked all the Gods he could think of for sending this angel-in-disguise who had interrupted this unstoppable man. He wiped his face quickly and turned around, to see Nupur rushing towards them.

And she ' she looked....Mayank struggled for the right word and gave up as he took in her whole appearance. She was wearing a white, full sleeved dress, that was just the right length till her knees. And, she had left her hair open. In the past 2 yrs, Mayank had never, ever seen her like that. Rather, he had never bothered to see any girl closely. It was probably for the good, coz now he just couldn't remove his gaze from her face as she frowned at him and her father.

"Papa! I have told you so many times, that this does not fall in the category of 'making conversation'!!" She reprimanded her father affectionately and annoyed at the same time. This made him smile.

"But the guy was interested... See, he's even smiling!" He pointed at Mayank.

Mayank's smile disappeared. Of course he was not interested. Great! This is even better!

Nupur giggled. "Fine!! Now can we go??"

"Yes, but no drinking, no smoking, no drugs, no kissing....Oh lord, I'm giving them ideas!!"

"Papa, relax!!! We'll be fine..." Nupur's sister came upto her dad and hugged him. He hmphed in response. What a funny guy! Should meet him more often! Mayank chuckled softly.

They started to leave when he held Mayank back "Remember what I told you, big guy!!" He threatened him again.

Mayank almost rolled his eyes...almost! "Sure Sir...Will do..."

Letting out a long sigh of relief, he finally left the place. Outside, Nupur stood, her arms crossed across her chest.

"What are you doing here?"

"What? I told you I'd come to pick you up at 7...You are 20 minutes late, by the way!" Mayank commented sarcastically.

Nupur rolled her eyes. "Whatever!! We are taking my car!"

He started to argue but then thought against it. He didn't actually have the energy. Plus she looked too nice to argue with.

As u all can see, the party will be in a no. of parts, depending on how long i make it...😆 This is just the pre-party prep part...I hope it wasnt too boring....😳 Plz leave ur comments....😊
