Part 9-
Seeing nupur so happy playing around with bruno confused dia like anything. She wondered what she was upto now. Was she doing something new and something worse than usual? What was going on? Was she going to make up something new by which she might get popular or… what???
As confusing as it was, all these questions went unanswered for her. she in her confused and pampered mood passed by nupur, who didn't even notice dia. She was so surprised by nupurs behaviour. Usually the girl who tries to hang around her as much as she could coz of no friends, today didn't even notice her.
Something is definitely going on. Whatever that is, im going to find out, thought dia.
She quickly went to nupur and sat next to her.
d- hey, wats up?
n- oh uh hii.
She said uncertainly. She still hadn't forgotten what dia had said yesterday. And the words still reverberated in her ears.
d- so all ready for college?
n- yes.
Said nupur coldly. She was in no mood to talk to dia. And she definitely was not gonna let dia take the advantage of her good mood.
Dia was a little taken back by hearing the coldness of her voice. She comforted herself by telling herself that shes always been this way, only now shes started showing it.
d- anyways chal college chalte hai.
She said getting up.
n- you go, akhil mujhe drop kar raha hai aaj.
d- okay. Your wish nups.
Dia was about to walk out of the door when-
n- dia---
dia turned thinking finally now she'll apologize.
n- nupur.
d- hun?
n- its nupur. not nups.
d- im sorry?
n- its ok.
nupur got up and took bruno in her arms and she ran upstairs.
Dia was dumbfounded by the sudden bitterness in her voice. What was wrong? Why was she so cold with me all of a sudden? Yet no answers. She kept staring at the top of the stairs from where nupur had just disappeared.
Suddenly-
Ding-dong.
The doorbell rang. Dia turned to get it.
Nupur went up the stairs and went into akhils room about to ask him for a drive, when she found herself face to face with mayank all dressed and ready for college. Oh right, she thought. how could I forget this son of a bitch was still at our place.
m- excuseme. What do you want? Mere raasta chodo for gods sake.
With a rudeness which made her want to slap him.
n- one second-
she said blocking his way out.
n- ya now let me explain something to you mayank. Firstly mayank tum mere bhai ke kamre main ho, jahaan tumhe obviously hona nahi chahiye unless of course you're a gay and you couldn't control your perverted mind.
m- hello-
nupur gave him one of those cold bottomless stares, which scared him a little. He had never seen this side of nupur. a mean, cold and non-seeking nupur. There was something different about her. yesterday when she had come to his place she had looked vulnerable and pitiable, but cold. No way! He had even thought she looked tired and worn out, as though just out of a terribly crass dream. As he looked into her deep black eyes he couldn't help but think, Had he been too mean to her yesterday. Should he apologize or just let her know he didn't mean all of those. But then he shook away his feelings reminding himself what all she was capable of. Why was he even minding so much. Stupid me. Thinking so he looked back into those deep black eyes which had so many answers yet so many unanswered questions and so much of cold hatred. Then bringing him out of his thoughts nupur said-
n- or are you such a pea brained asshole, that you think I still CARE!
And she pushed her way in, and watched him leave. She had said those words with a urge of bitterness, she had not known before. She didn't know why but now that she had said it, she felt like she had longed to take it out on someone. And the ironic part was a part of her wished that she had not said it. But hey, you really have to have your own way sometimes
Suddenly-
a- that shouldve felt good.
Akhil said coming out of the bathroom. He had a towel in his hand which he was using to wipe away the water from his hair. Which he did carefully.
n- hmmm.. lemme think. Umm.. anvita di se milne ja raha hai?
a- oh shut up woman. Barking loud.
He said making a face with a grim expression.
n- acha so you don't like her?
a-no way sis.
n- sure about that?
a- obviously babes. You girls are so confused man. Gosh! Women!
Nupur pouted at this comment of his. And she rushed towards him and took the towel from him. She took him by the hand and made him sit on the couch. And she slowly started removing the water from his hair.
n- chal ab tu itna insist kar raha hai, to main anvita di ko jaake sach sach bata dungi ki tu unke liye aisa kuch feel nahi karta. Mana unka dil tuth jayega but-
Akhil slowly turned to nupur.
a-kya matlab?
n-arrey tujhe kya hai. Tu to unhe pasand nahi karta na to tu bhool ja.
a- nups, meri pyaari behna, blurt it out. Please.
n- aisa kuch nahi hai jaisa tu soch raha hai. Bas unke class mein who hottie hai na, wat was his name? shantanu dagar.
Usne di ko prupose kia tha.
a- kab?
He asked with a sudden overwhelming desire to crush shantanu under his brittle soled reebok shoes.
n- last night.
a-what? Aur tu mujhe yeh ab bata rahi hai! Shit. Rukh main usse aaj dhek loonga.
n- aur di pooch rahi thi mujhse ki kya tu unko pasand karta hai warna wo shantanu ko haan keh dengi na. To ill tell her ki you don't feel anything of that sort for her.
akhil could feel his heart falling. If he didn't tell nupur the truth now then he would lose anvita forever. And a life without anvita in it would be unimaginable for him. But if he told her than anvita would come to know that he liked her, which would be equally embarrassing. But if anvita had said ki agar main usko like nahi karta toh who shantanu ko haan kahegi toh that means that she likes me.
Nupur was about to leave the room when-
a-ek second nups. Don't go.
Nupur smiled in triumph. So for the first time, she had tricked aki to know something and she was winning.
n-kuch aur bhi kehna tha?
She gave him a cute and innocent smile.
a-wo main keh raha th ki.. umm. Main who…
n-dang se reherse karle phir bataiyo ki kya kehna. Main college ja rahi hoon. Bye.
She said and was about to leave when akhil finally burst out with it.
a- okay fine. I like her. happy? Bloody!
n- aki language.
a-sorry.
Nupur smiled at him. Her brother was so nave. Wo kitni aasani se mere baton mein aa gaya.
Nupur shook her head and was about to leave when she suddenly remembered why she had come here in the 1st place. She turned to him.
n- hey aki, sun? tu mujhe aaj se college drop kar sakta hai? Please, pretty please.
a-aur uske badle mein-
n-main teri anvita ko patane mein madad karoongi. What say?
Akhil smiled as he said- done sis.
n-chal then lets go. Main tera neeche tere gaadi ke paas wait kar rahi hoon. Okay?
a-ya ok. ill be right there.
She quickly rushed to her room and grabbed her bag then she took bruno in her arms as she rushed downstairs towards the car.
As soon as she reached downstairs she put bruno down and took out her text book and started revising the topis. She had finished this book yesterday when she had been feeling restless. Now suddenly in the book seemed so easy, like a piece of cake. This time she would show gunjan and the other 3 who the boss was. Speacially mayank. She wanted to beat him and get him back on earth. Hes been flying for too long now, she thought. when she felt 2 hands on her shoulder. Finally aky aa gaya, she thought and she turned o find herself face to face with anna kaushik. The girl who had replaced her in the last semester top 5.
a- hey watcha doing here?
n- wo I was waiting for my brother.
a- okay. Hey. im anna. Anna kaushik.
n- hey. im nupur. nupur bhushan.
a-nice to meet ya swty. Listen umm ive shifted here in your colony.
n-oh, where?
a-over there.
She said pointing towards the house directly in front of nupurs on the other side of the road.
n-nice place.
a-thanks. Listen nupur. my dads not around so I was hoping I could have a ride to college with you. Actually I was supposed to go with this friend of mine. But seems like hes already gone to college.
n-no problem you can come along.
Nupur said sweetly which surprised anna.
She sat down next to nupur.
Slowly studying the haughtily beautiful girl in front of her, wondering what had gone wrong. Why her friends had left her. she seemed genuinely sweet natured. But she stopped herself from asking her, thinking it might arouse feelings and emotions which are best kept aside.
Then she looked down at the ground.
n- hey bdw, I forgot! Congratulations. You came 5th. Good for you.
a-wat happened to you this time? I thought you'd come 5th. It was quiet a surprise for me. You know.
Nupur smiled slowly.
Then aki came downstairs and pulled both of them up. then h said-
a-chalo warna college ke liye bahut late ho jayenge.
They all quickly got into the car and drove off chatting and introducing each other to anna. nupur finally confessed that she had tricked him in the morning, which akhil accepted in a cheery mood.
It took them around 15 minutes to reach excel. He stoppd the car at the gate and said-
Akhil- guyz tum log yahaan se jao. Mujhe kissise milne jana hai.
Nupur winked at him as she asked- kisse?
Anna smiled too when she saw him blushing.
They got out of the car and went into the gate when a bike came rushing by, because of which nupur almost fell over anna. Nupur shouted at the guy-
n- dude dhikta nahi hai kya?
The guy was wearing a helmet. So they couldn't see who it was. The guy turned to them, then he turned back. Then he turned the bike back to them and stopped it in front of them. This sort of creeped nupur out.
Mayank, and gunjan who were standing just near by saw this. Mayank could feel the anger rushing into his veins. He wanted to smash the guys head as he saw how fast he had ridden by nupur. what if nupur had got hurt? He thought. before he could rush towards him, gunjan stopped him.
g- mayank kya hua?
m-hun? Nahi kuch nahi!
g- to chal class chalte hai?
m-ya sure.
He gave the guy one last look then turned and went with gunjan.
The guy looked at both of them, then he took out his helmet.
Who he was, was quiet a surprise for nupur and a bit for anna too. It was raunak.
Raunak directly looked at nupur.
r- oops. Now that was my bad shorty. Sorry.
On this comment they both started grinning.
Anna who was standing beside them looked at both of them, then she cleared her throat and se looked at raunak.
a-so nicky, I thought someone was supposed to gimme a ride to college today!
Raunak grinned at her and he said in a mocking tone- acha! Who ???? and he gave her a questioning look.
She smiled and shook her head and hit him on the head with her book.
r- oww that hurt.
Anna gave him a killing look on this.
On this raunak folded his hands together and said to her-
'he maa. Mujhe maaf kijiye. Hamein apni behen turvi ko uske friend ke ghar drop karna tha. hume hamare karmo ke liye maaf kijiye!'
Then anna put out her hand as though she was kaali maa giving him ashirwaad-
'tumhe maaf kiya jata hai vaths.'
r- zor se bolo-
a & r- jai mata di!
And all three of them started laughing.
Then raunak turned to nupur.
r- aur tum meri friend anna kaushik se to mil hi chuki hai nupur. now lemme introduce you to another friend of mine-
he was about to point, but then he realized that the person he was looking for was not yet in view.
He looked at anna.
r- oye anna, starbucks kahaan hai?
n-starbucks?
r-tu rukh na!
he said gesturing her to wait.
a- dunno dude.
Raunak scratched his head, then he parked his bike and joined the girls to class.
Today nupur was going to have a new class- a friendship class, where she'll learn the true meaning of friendship. Where she'll learn that friendship is not just helping each other with notes, friendship means sharing a bit of your life and your heart with someone else. Where tears are not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength.
