Hey guyz... thanks for the comments and the waiting. I finally finished it! Nine pages on word... enjoy!

Part 9

"Aaj tumhne aisa kyun kiya Abhi," Nikki said, stirring the pot. Abhi was seated on the kitchen counter, muching on chips.

"Kya?"

"Kitni baar kaha hai dinner se pehle chips maat kao!" she admonished.

"Kya?" he repeated, ignoring what she said.

"Khud ko kyun invite kar diya tumne?" she clarified, shaking her head. He would never learn.

"Kyun?" he asked, narrowing his eyes. "Tumhari bodyguards ne kuch kaha?"

"Bodyguards?" she said, raising her eyebrows.

"Wahi," he said, rolling his eyes. "Dr. Malik and Dr. Grewal."

"Armaan and Rahul," she stressed. She hated it when Abhi said her best friends' last name. It sounded insulting the way he pronounced it. "are not my bodyguards."

"Yeah sure," he replied, sarcastically. "The way, they are always around you, its like you hired some guards. But its so pointless, seeing that I, alone, am capable of taking care of you."

"They don't know that," she reminded. "But that's not my point."

"Well," he said, setting the bag of chips down and hugging her from behind. "I am not coming for them."

Nikki tried her best to ignore his strong arms around her tiny figure. Even though it was almost a year since their marriage and god knows how long they have been together, she never got used to his touch. It distracted her more than anything, and right now a burnt dinner is not what she wanted.

"Phir…?" she asked.

"Main toh meri Nikki ke liye aa raha hoon," he answered. "Mere bina tum bore toh ho hi jaaogi!"

"No…" she said slowly. "I won't be bored without you…"

"Accha," he said, with a small laugh. "Mere bina tumne kabhi kahin gayi?"

"I had a life before I met you, you know," she said, avoiding his question.

"Not really," he whispered in her ear. "Well I didn't… and I didn't realize I was not living until I met you."

He started to leave a trail of light kisses on her collarbone. Nikki closed her eyes and leaned into him.

"Raj called," he informed, resting his chin on her shoulder.

"Hmm…" she said, her eyes still closed, enjoying the tingle of her skin caused by his breath.

"He offered two tickets to Ooty," he said.

She opened her eyes. "Ooty… par…. Hospital…" she said, slowly. She would have loved to go on vacation with her hubby, but…

"Issi liye, maine maana kar diya," he said casually, blowing into her hair. "With Rahul's marriage…"

"Sorry…" she apologized. "But we will go somewhere soon…"

"I couldn't care less," he replied, matter-of-factly. "My vacation is where ever you are…"

Before Nikki could reply, a burning smell caught her attention.

"Uff-oh!" she exclaimed, hurriedly stirring the pot once again. "Khana jal raha hai!"

He didn't let go of her, but infact clutched her closer. She quickly turned off the stove and turned to him.

"Saab tumhari gaalthi hai!" she said, slapping his arm. "kitni baar kahan hai, don't disturb me when I am cooking."

"Maine kya kiya?" he asked, innocently. "I didn't tell you to stop what you were doing…"

"I.I…I," Nikki fumbled, struggling to explain.

Abhi enjoyed her discomfort. He knew perfectly well that she would get distracted. Nikki looked up and narrowed her eyes at his mischevious expression.

"Dr. Modi," she said, fuming. "You are so…evil!! Get out…NOW!"

"But…but…"

"OUT!!" she yelled, pointing to the door. "Warna you will get a burnt dinner today."

He let go of her and start to head to the door before saying, "Usse mein kaunsi baadi baat hai? Jab se tumse shaadi kiya hai, tab se yahi to kaa raha hoon. I am used to it!"

He ran out as she hurled a spoon at him.

* * *

"Kya kar rahe ho Atul?" Nikki asked, annoyed. It was Sunday, the day of the sangeet and not even half of the decorations were finished.

Atul as usual was around Anjali and instead of putting the flow garlands around of the room, he was putting it on her. Nikki sighed. Everyone was busy with their own partners and she was left all alone… she wished Abhi would come to help, but then again… it would raise too many questions.

"ARMAAN!" Nikki yelled, trying to get his attention.

He snapped out of the eye locking session he was sharing with Ridhima.

"Kya hai yaar?" Armaan asked, irritated at the disturbance.

"The sangeet in an a few hours," she reminded, trying her level best to be patient. "You are supposed to be picking songs to play, not staring at Ridhima!"

"Haan kar rahan hoon na," he said quickly, getting back to organizing the millions of CDs he had.

"Yeh Rahul kahan hai?" Nikki asked, looking around for the groom-to-be.

"Woh Muskaan ke saath bahar gaya hai," Anjali informed.

Nikki heaved a frustrated sigh. "Kyun?"

"I think Muskaan needed to pick up her dress," someone informed.

"But why did he go?" Nikki asked. "He is not suppose to see her dress!"

Everyone laughed. "Rahul ko sirf ek excuse chahiye, Muskaan ke saath bahar jaane ke," Armaan informed. "But then afterall, he is my student. I taught him how to romace… Ouch, that hurt basket!"

"Phir se tumhari natak shuru," Ridhima said, smacking him on the shoulder again. "Tum masti karne ke aalava, kuch aur kaam nahin hai kya?"

"Hai na," he replied casually. "Tumse pyar karna!"

"Hey Bhagwan!" Nikki said. "In logon ka kya karoon. They are screwing up things more than they are doing it."

"Chill Nikki," Armaan said. "Time hai na. We will get it done."

An hour later…

"ENOUGH!" Nikki screamed. "That's it! I have had it. All of your GET OUT!"

Time was running out, along with her patience. The ceremony was four hours away and all her friends were too busy in their romantic life to help her. Infact, they made more work for her to do.

"Par Nikki," Armaan said.

"I don't care. Leave. All of you… I will do it myself!"

"Nikki," Ridhima said, trying to reason with her. "How can you do everything alone?"

"I did it before," she informed, dragging everyone to the door. "I can do it now."

"But…" Anjali started to say.

She cut her off. "No! I don't want to hear a word from your four again. Leave and come back at 6! Do not and I repeat, DO NOT bother me, warna…" she didn't need to finish the sentence. Everyone got the point.

They nodded their heads and left. Nikki quickly shut the door and pulled out her cell phone.

"Abhi," she sighed.

"Kya hua?" He said, immediately catching the tone of her voice.

"I have to decorate for Rahul's sangeet before the ceremony," she said desperately.

It was quiet for a moment, before Abhi said, "I am coming in ten minutes." And the phone went dead.

Nikki checked and re-checked that there was no one outside. She wouldn't have called Abhi, if it wasn't necessary. Moreover, it was risky… what if someone decided to walk in?

And like he promised, Abhi arrived ten minutes later. She hugged him in delight as he gave her a gentle peck on her cheek. He was her best stress relief.

"I am so glad you are here," she said. "There is so much work and so little time. If we don't get done, everything will be screwed up and Rahul will kill me. Afterall, its his wedding but still," she rambled.

He silenced her with a finger on her lips. "Shh," he said. "Take a deep breath. We will be done soon!"

She smiled and thanked her stars for giving her someone like Abhi, who knew her better than herself.

"Waise tumhare bodyguards," he asked. "I mean friends kahan hai?"

"I kicked them out," she informed him. "There were so busy in their romatic world that they were creating more work for me."

"Good," he approved. "This way we have some alone time!!"

"Abhi," she scolded. "We are here to decorated, not to romance!"

"Its all the same thing sweetheart," he told her and proceeded to put up decorations.

Working with Abhi was fun… well to Nikki, it was. He joked and messed around and when she would get mad, he would make a puppy face, go on his knees and hold his ears. She didn't have the heart to stay mad at him and when she sighed, he would smile, pick her up in his arms and spin her around, as she screamed in surprise.

But, unlike her friends, Abhi worked as much as he played around. They were finished setting up in less than three hours.

All the furniture in Armaan's hall was moved out and a huge stereo player was put in the corner. Flowers and curtains adorned the walls and a few chirstmas lights were added in between. Few cusions have been added on either side of the room, for people to sit if they wished and a long table for the food in the kitched, which was next to the hall.

Both Abhi and Nikki laid on the long cusions, exhausted. It was only 4pm… they had lots of time before the others came back. She turned and laid her head on his chest, as his arms wrapped around her.

"Maine khud ki shaadi mein bhi itna kaam nahin ki tha," he grumbled.

She snorted. "Tum khud ki shaadi mein te hi kab?"

Abhi struggled for an answer. "Ahem… umm… woh…"

During their wedding, Abhi was always with Nikki. Even during those ceremonies when the guy was supposed to be away from the girl, he used to sneak in and even got a big scolding when he got caught.

"Exactly," she muttered.

"Toh kya hua," he said quickly. "It was a lot of work coming to meet you. All those people around you… urgh!"

"I was the bride Abhi," she reminded him. "Of course I would be surrounded by people."

"So," he said. "Doesn't the bride need personal space?"

She rolled her eyes. "If I needed personal space, then why did your keep invading it?"

"Because I am your personal space!"

"Ha ha ha. Very funny!"

He turned to his side so that they were facing each other. "So I am not your personal space?" he asked, looking into her eyes.

She caught the mischevious glint in his eyes. "Umm… woh," she fumbled.

"After everything that happened," he said.

"Umm… no, you are not my personal space," she said, uncertainly.

"So you want me to prove it you?" he asked, reading her doubt.

"If you can," she challenged and before he would do anything, she pushed his arms away, stood up.

He laid in place and looked at her.

"Kya hua Dr. Abhimanyu Modi," she teased. "Too slow to catch me?"

"Just wait Nikki," he replied, getting up and starting to run after her when-

KNOCK KNOCK

Both of them froze, looking at each other with horror-struck eyes. If anyone saw Nikki with Abhi, alone

He put a finger on his lips, indicating her to be quiet. He quietly walked to closed door and looked through the key hole… it was the interns.

He turned back and quickly went to her and whispered in her ear, "its them… I will go hide upstairs and if they don't leave, then I will go out the window. Okay?"

She just nodded and waited for him to go upstairs, before taking a deep breath and opening the door.

"Kya kar rahi thi Nikki," Armaan said, walking in. "We have been knocking forever and were seriously considering breaking – "

He stopped midway and gasped at his hall, which was now transformed into a beautiful room. Everyone looked in silence, awe struck at Nikki's work, before Rahul said, "You did this all by yourself?"

Everyone turned to look at her, doubt hanging in their eyes. Deciding that no one will buy her lie, she told them part of the truth. "Umm… no. A friend came to help."

Everyone relaxed and looked around, except for Armaan and Rahul. "Who was this friend?" Armaan asked.

"Umm… a college friend," she said, shuffling her feet.

"Really?" Rahul said. "Then we must know them for sure. What is their name?"

Crap! She thought. "Actually… kya hai na… woh… umm… you don't know them."

"I think we would know them Nikki," Rahul stressed. "Kyunki hum college ek saath gaye the. Remember?"

Nikki looked at the floor, trying her best to think of an excuse. "Actually, woh meri med school se hai. So that's why you don't know her."

Rahul and Armaan didn't reply and continued to stare at her. Abhi teek kehtha tha, she thought to herself. Yeh dono toh meri bodyguards ki tarah hai… why can't they just leave the matter alone?

Nikki quickly changed the topic, knowing well that her two best friends will get to the bottom of the matter, if they got suspicious. "Waise, what the hell are you guys doing here?" she asked, pretending to be angry. "I told you not to come until 6!"

"Well," Armaan said, distracted. "Rahul came and he scoled us for leaving you alone… so we felt bad and came to help you."

"But all you guys can do it screw up things for me," she told them.

"Toh kya hua," Armaan said. "The decorations are done… so, its okay that we came now."

"Umm…" Nikki said, nervously. "Actually, I am not done. So you guys have to leave again."

"What more can you do now?" Rahul asked. "Everything looks done."

"I was thinking we should add something… you know..."

"Koi zaroorat nahin hai," Anjali said, joing the three. "its perfect. Good job nikki!"

"Haan," Ridhima agreed. "Waise, tumhare dost kahan hai? We should thank him or her too…"

Oh no! "Woh…. Chala gaya," she said.

"Gaya?" Rahul asked, scrunching his eyebrows. "I thought you said it was a girl."

"Did I…?" she said, praying no one found her odd. "Well, yeah. Woh chali gayi."

No one payed attention to her discomfort, except for her best friends… again. "Magar," Armaan said, suspiciously. "Bahar toh gaadi kadi hai."

"Kissi gaadi?"

"I don't know," he replied. "Not one of us. So it must be your friend's."

Nikki sighed. "I don't know." And before they could object she walked away, praying that Abhi left by now.

"Wait a minute," Rahul said suddenly. "Woh to Abhimanyu ki gaadi hai!"

Nikki spun around. "What?"

"Yeah I remember. Its his car." He then turned to look at her. "Now the question is, what is Dr. Modi's car doing here?"

Nikki cursed herself for inviting Abhi in the first place. "I have no clue what you are talking about," she lied, smoothly. "As far as I know, my friend left an hour ago. And that car… I think you guyz need some sleep."

Both of guys didn't answer. She pretended to look irritated and said, "Now, if your interrogation is finished, can I go? I have to get ready!" And she walked away.

"Yeh Nikki ko kya ho gaya?" Rahul asked Armaan.

"Beats me man," he replied. "I think she is loosing it. She had no clue what she was saying. But the car is strange, don't you think?"

Rahul nodded and went to the window to check. Surprisingly, it was not there anymore.

"Armaan," he called. "Look, the car is not here!"

Both of them stared at each other, wondering if it was indeed their imagination or reality that they saw a car that didn't belong to them, parked in front of the house.

"Ridhima," Armaan called. She walked up to him, with questioning eyes. "Did you see a strange car when we walked in?"

She shook her head. "No," she answered. "Wasn't the only car parked, Nikki's?"

Rahul shook his head as Ridhima walked away. "I think we are over reacting man. It was just a randomn car, who gives a damn who it belonged to?"

Armaan nodded and pushed the thought out of his head.
