Her reflection stared back at her. Others would have said it was that of a pretty bride but she knew really, that it was one of a girl mourning over a death. Her own. The jewellery was all gold and her bridal wear was that of a queen's, to others her husband was that of a queen's, she should have been the luckiest girl in the world. Her face as usual was expressionless, what expression could it possibly hold? Happiuness- there was none of that left in her life anymore. Sadness- she had to keep that one off for the sake of Armaan. And anything else was just not there. However, her eyes were the windows to her soul. They told all, said all. And in them, she could see the past, all of it, every single detail'
Those warm summer's evenings that she just lay there fantasising about him. They were not together at the time- just friends through Armaan who studied in India but knew Angad as they once used to be childhood friends before Angad's family shifted here. Angad was much much older than her. But whenever the years got together, Angad would always be there, by her side. Unfortunately for her, there also used to be others by their side: girls stuck to him like bees to honey and same with her and boys. Of course the girls were much older than her- in Angad's year and sometimes older. She remembered when she had once confided in her best friend, only to get back a 'he's waaay too good for you' in return. But still, the attraction continued and glances were stolen, heartbeats quickened and nights left dreaming.
So of course she didn't forget the day' Her best friend was talking to her about the guy she fancied and all Kripa could think about was Angad. This was the day that Angad's year were 'looking after' our year on a school trip to regents park. They were on the field and were allowed to go wherever they wanted to. Kripa had discovered that behinf the trees, there were two islands, and after some more discovering, Kripa and her best friend ended up on a terrace/balcony thing that was hidden but overlooked the small waterfall. She took a deep breath in, enjoying the light fragrance of the jasmine trees nearby and rested her head on her hand on the wooden fence that seperated the balcony and the waterfall. "Kripa?"
"Mmmm?"
"Are you actually listening?"
"Mmmm'"
"Yea right Kripa, I know you're thinking of Angad."
"Mmmm'"
"Look I know I was a bit harsh but I still think that he is too old for you. But since you just cant get over him'"
"Kripa is this true?" A deep voice asked shaking Kripa out of her little daydream. This was definitely not my friend's voice Kripa thought- Uh-Oh!
She turned to find that her friend had left not wanting Kripa's wrath and Angad stood there in front of her- waiting for an answer.
She wasn't even listening to what her friend had said but she somehow knew what Angad was asking. Unfortunately for her, she didn't know the answer. Or rather she didn't know what her answer should be. So she decided not to and looked away.
"Kripa?"
She walked past him hoping to avoid the situation by descending the stairs to where the rest of the people were. But Angad had grasped her arm making her stop dead in her tracks even before she could go past him. Not because of his strong grip that he somehow wasn't using right now- but his mere touch that was sending little sparks from his hand to hers.
What do I do, what do I do? Her subconcious urged but her brain was just too frazzled to think.
He pulled her closer till she could feel his warm breath on her neck (she was still facing away from him)
She decided to turn away; back to the waterfall this time but he pulled her back sharply, causing her back to collide into his chest. "Kripa?"
She wanted to reply, she really did- but how? Her tongue was refusing to say the words but instead were just burning to form one word: Angad.
He seemed curious at her silent state and even Kripa knew that she had given herself away to him but still he wanted the words from her own mouth. He slid her hair to the side so that her neck was bare in front of him. She could feel him breathing on her neck making her shiver despite the weather. Her body was overly aware of his presence and she felt him come closer. Her heartbeats stopped for that moment until he kissed her bare neck sending her heart into a frenzy of unstoppable beats. The question still hung in the air, now going unnoticed by him. But she had not forgot, she slowly turned as she realised that there was nothing to fear and nodded her head slightly, only to be received by the most earth-shattering kiss anyone could have ever experience. It was'magical. There were no other words to describe it and that was the time when she knew that he was the one.
They had been inseperable after that and Kripa knew that those were the most amazing times of her life. Meeting without her mother's knowledge (or so she thought), bunking classesto meet or just simply being the romantics they were in whatever classes that htye werer together. Anyone and everyone that would see them could tell that they defined the words: 'made for each other'. And they were. Were. Kripa even enjoyed her friends teasing when Angad impatiently gave her a kiss in the middle of everyone as a part of their daily quota.
And then, when Angad graduated from university and she was in it, her bunking got worse, she was falling behind and on the verge of getting bad grades. But the thing was- she didn't care! However, after her mother's emotional attyachar, she succumbed enough so that she would do enough work and pass with good grades. She couldn't understand how Angad did it. He bunked every class, never studied and played around in his time but he still managed to pass. Just. Things like the Holi thing kept happening, and she was made to feel the most special person in the world. Kripa was in heaven on earth. She found bliss in his arms. So what could possibly have gone wrong? Kripa reflected and gave a self-mocking smile. Anyone who knew this side of the story thought that she had gone mental to leave what they had. And unfortunately for her, everyone did. But what they didn't know was her side of the story. Her deep, dark past.
