I don't think it is as plain as that. First of all, the students wre simply handed the voting right -they were never asked to confine themselves to the criterion of talent; that's why it was very, very upsetting for me to watch Shankar's anger-filled comments to the students when Kirti was voted out-he didn't even let the students clarify their stand(remember his dry statement? "did you think Gurpreet sang better than Kirti? Yes or no? That's all"-I think that was very unfair.
And then, Ila strengthens the students' stand by saying that they may use any criterion for voting-including the desire to carve out their own path. And then finally JA repeats that. But we, the forum participants , create a huge furor when the students take a decision which seems wrong to us- the faculty and the judges have the obligation to maintain the fairness of the race;but, not the students; it is time we accept this fact.
