Manav Gohil, who hosts the Sony daily Fame Gurukul along with Mandira Bedi, finds his new role as anchor singularly exciting.
An adaptation of the Spanish reality show Operacion Triunfo, Fame Gurukul has 14 singers selected from all over the country vying for the Fame Jodi title which includes a recording deal with a music company and a contract worth Rs 1 crore with Sony.
Gohil tells us what makes this reality show distinct for him…
I am anchoring for the first time
And that's reason enough. There is a lot of learning to do for it. Anchoring is distinct from acting. As a host, I am primarily connecting with the audiences — I am, what I am. I am Manav, not just a character mouthing lines. There's lots at work at the same time and I have learnt a lot — from body language to my wardrobe to diction.
Fame Gurukul came my way
I got the show through auditions — it is the channel who approached me for it. It was something new for me and I took it up as a challenge. I am constantly doing homework for my new role.
Mandira's presence as co-anchor…
This did not deter me at all. Nor did the fact that she would overshadow me. On the contrary, I took it an opportunity to grow a little and learn a lot from her. She has been a sweetheart. It has been a lovely experiencing with her.
On wife Shweta Kawaatra
At the moment, Shweta is visiting her sister in Canada. We dream of working together; we did do a cameo together in Instant Khichdi (Star One). It has been more than six months that we have been married, and it is going perfect.
Not taking on too many shows
Any sensible actor does not do an overbooking of dates and juggle too many shows at a time. I don't like to over-commit myself. At the moment I am also in CID (Sony); I'll take up anything else only post Fame Gurukul but before that I will take a holiday with Shweta.
The fate of the three Fame Gurukul contestants — Rex D'Souza (Mumbai), Qazi Touqeer (Srinagar) and Chhavi Sodani (Mumbai) — who were on probation this week will be decided tonight.
Viewers votes determine who should stay on in the show. From the remaining two contestants, one will be voted in by the fellow contestants.
The candidate who does not figure in any of these two categories will be out of the show. This week's immunity contestant is Shamit Tyagi (Mumbai).
The faculty including Ila Arun, Padma Wadkar, Prasanth Samadhar, Anjali Chabbria, Mickey Mehta and choreographer Bosco Ceaser have rated him as an A grade contestant . As a privilege, he along with Chhavi Sodhani was allowed to go for an outing to the Bentley car launch in the city.
