TEN years in the television business, and that's definitely a reason to celebrate. Sony TV's 10th birthday party is a ''different'' one: Stars of its ''hit'' serials have hit the road for Aap Jaisa Koi, the channel's celebration in various cities across the country.
So, names like Tanaaz Currim (fairy wife of Dilip Joshi in Meri Biwi Wonderful), Nausheen Ali Sardar (the original Kkusum), Amit Sana and Prajakta Shukre (Indian Idol finalists), Rex D'souza (Fame Gurukul final three), Tina Parekh (the beautiful lead of Kahani Teri Meri), Shraddha Nigam (Choodiyan), Bakhtiyar Irani (the comical son who aspired to be SRK(!) in Batliwala House No. 43), Amit Jain (the guy who loves Pooja in Ye Meri Life Hain), Manasi Verma (CID Special Bureau), Dilip Joshi (the farsan man in Kudkudiya House No.43) were in Ahmedabad on Friday for a live in concert.
In between their practice sessions, they took time out to speak on projects, life, and their journey to being household names.
fame Gurukul's Rex feels, ''I'm still very much around.'' But so are Indian Idol finalists Prajakta Shukre and Amit Sana, who held audiences across the country through the numerous shows they travelled with, soon after Abhijeet Sawant was declared Indian Idol. Among the regulars seen since long is Tanaaz Currim. Not just on TV, she's a popular face in films as well.. Kaho Na Pyar Hain, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon...'' I love doing comedy but am now more keen on negative. Since I'm not a negative person myself, it's not just challenging but also very interesting to perform negtive, 'bad' roles,'' says Tanaaz, who will soon be seen in 36 China Town, a murder mystery where she plays Johny Lever's wife. While she enjoys ''making people laugh'', she supports the belief with an interesting theory: ''Life already has so many tensions, why add to it!''.
The 'original' KKusum, Nausheen, looks back at her long association with KKusum on a happy note. ''I didn't want to play mother to an actor my age which is why I left Kkussum, but it feels good to be talked about even after having left the show. Like, when people tell me 'aap hi hamari Kkusum hain','' says Nausheen, who's now working on Bollywood prjects. ''Do Dilon Ke Khel Mein with Rohit Nayyar, Satish Kaushik, Rajpal Yadav, Rati Agnihotri and Annu Kapoor would be soon followed by another film where I play a doctor,'' says this Kkusum, who longs to ''to win a Filmfare Award some day''. And while she's trimmed down and toned up tremendously, she spills a secret: ''I love going to a beauty parlour as often as I can manage and indulge. I am also learning classical singing since a year-and-a-half now.''
Not just Nausheen, Shraddha Nigam, too, tells us she took to workouts and a regime in order to ''getin to shape'', which is why ''this new look''. ''Choodiyan happened quite a few years ago and it was very different playing a girl whose mind is that of an eight-year-old,'' says this Mumbai-bred, Trinity College of London student. Currently, enjoying the channel celebration, Shraddha speaks about her project in Pakistan. ''I'm doing a series show in Pakistan. But whatever I do, be it serials or films (''may be later'') I just want to be A+,'' says the actor, also seen in Krishna Arjun and Dekho Magar Pyar Se. So, while the jing bang celebrates their decade in business, we await their next surprises.
