"I guess I just wasn't lucky enough…"

Rex D'souza's infectious smile made the girls go weak in their knees but couldn't make it to the Fame Jodi. But that hasn't dampened his spirits a week after Fame Gurukul announced its winners. He has taken it in his stride and is now readying for stage shows after signing a two year contract with Sony BMG Crescendo.

Kavita Shyam caught up with the easygoing Rex on life after Fame Gurukul..

How have the last few days been after so much of attention in Fame Gurukul?

I am enjoying myself these days. I went to the Sony office the other day on a bike and ended up being caught by loads of people on the street who came running after me.
It is embarrassing as well so I am traveling by car these days. Also, now I venture out at night so that I am not recognized!

How do you feel about not making it to the Fame Jodi?
I have learnt a lot in the Gurukul so I am not complaining. My family is proud of the fact that I came up to such a level without being a trained singer which wasn't at all easy. Beyond that, it is essentially luck that gets you to the top. I could only sing but my teachers worked hard on me to train and guide me.

So what has Sony lined up for you?
I will be traveling all over India and abroad with Sony for the stage shows for four months but my contract is for two years with them.

Are you in touch with your fellow contestants?
I am in touch with Kirti and Amit. I am in touch with the faculty members , they are the most important people in my life now. Ruprekha and Qazi are busy with their recordings, so I don't get to talk to them.

Do you watch Celebrity Fame Gurukul?
I caught one of the episodes recently and I think it is very embarrassing for the faculty as well! Fame Gurukul has been a popular show with genuine singers and the teachers here have worked so hard to train us, to have such non-singers is not fair. I think only Tanaaz Currim sings well and the rest, are better not talked about!
