Ruprekha: I never got along with Rex

October 21, 2005

Hours after she became one half of India's first Fame Jodi along with Qazi Touqeer last night, Ruprekha Bannerjee shed her good girl image and declared, "Rex aur meri kabhi jami nahi. We had good chemistry on screen but he used to tease me a lot and I didn't like that one bit. It totally put me off. I always felt I faced a certain khatra from him."

But Rex D'Souza, who was eliminated at the final hurdle in last night's nail-biting finale, said he had no issues with Ruprekha.

"She is a very sweet girl. She says that I tease her, but that's part of my nature. If Ruprekha felt any khatra then it must have been from my popularity. I don't pose any threat to her otherwise."

Ruprekha and Qazi edged out Rex after millions of viewers cast their votes for the finale. Mid Day was backstage after the show and asked the three finalists, amid much screaming and hysterics, for their reactions.

"I can't hear you, speak loudly!" said Ruprekha, while Qazi, true to form, yelled, "I have won it all!" Here's what the three had to say:

Qazi

I'm on top of the world. Maine pehle se hi bola tha ki main jeetunga! My parents told me there was no way I could be a singer but I have proved them wrong. All those who said, "You cannot sing," have been silenced forever.

Ruprekha

I'm so thrilled! As far as Rex being voted out is concerned, meri aur uski kabhi jami nahi. However, there is no denying that we shared great chemistry on screen. But I always felt I faced a certain khatra from him. I didn't want his popularity to overshadow mine.

Rex

I told Qazi, "Aaj Veeru mar jayega aur Jai Basanti ko le jayega." I think there are no losers today, only winners. If there is anyone whose name will be remembered after the Fame Jodi it is me, and I'm proud of that.

My most emotional moment on the show was when I was called back after being eliminated and Ila Arunji cried for me.

Also I knew for sure that Qazi would win — no one could stop him. I also was sure that the audience would want a boy-girl jodi, so I realised my chances were bleak. I am happy for both of them, especially Qazi.

Despite what the public think, he is my best friend
