Will a Mumbai contestant weave his magic again? Mahim resident Abhijeet Sawant went on to be the first Indian Idol.
Tonight, Andheri-based Rex D'Souza battles for his share of glory in Fame Gurukul. In the finale of this Sony reality drama, Rex takes on Srinagar's Qazi Touqeer and Kolkata's Ruprekha Banerjee for the Fame Jodi title. Rex: Behne saath hain
Rex, who stays near D N Nagar, Andheri (West), has had his family canvassing for him around-the-clock. They have been distributing pamphlets in the area (just like the Sawants), requesting their neighbours and acquaintances to vote for Rex.
"Don't ask me how many SMSes our family and friends have sent," says his mother Sangeeta, regularly spotted in the audience of Fame Gurukul with a toddler on her lap. This two-and-a-half-year-old adopted daughter, Tisha, has been following Rex bhaiyya sing to glory. "Tisha is my child; just like my daughter Shweta. I can no longer say she is adopted," says Sangeeta. "We are all praying for Rex."
Shweta has been mustering support for her older brother at her college, St Andrew's, Bandra. "I have told my classmates to tell their families and friends to vote for Rex," she says.
Qazi: Mum, brother provide support
Qazi's mother and brother are also in Mumbai and have been spotted in the Fame Gurukul audience.
Among Qazi's fans are President APJ Abdul Kalam, who was quite taken in by Qazi's dreadlocks.
And Qazi and his flamboyant style have grabbed viewer-attention. "We are hoping for the best," says Qazi's younger brother, Tauseef. Ruprekha: Papa aa rahe hain
It is learnt that Ruprekha's father is flying down for the finale to watch (and pray) for the success of his talented daughter.
Tonight's episode will have one of three combos — Rex and Qazi; Rex and Ruprekha; or Qazi and Ruprekha sing their way to the Fame Jodi title to secure a prize of Rs 1 lakh, through a recording deal with Sony Music, besides other offers.

What the Fame Jodi will sing
Like Abhijeet Sawant, who crooned Mohabbatein Lootayunga after winning the Indian Idol title, the Fame Jodi will belt out a specially composed track, called Woh Pal.
This track, from Sony BMG, is by the UK-based Hardip Sidhu and Prem Pal Hans, with lyrics by Sameer and music arranged by Miko. The finale episode will air today from 8.30 pm to 10 pm. |
