The so-called chemistry between Fame Gurukul contestants Rex D'Souza and Ruprekha Bannerjee, which viewers couldn't help but notice, has turned out to be a mere myth.
These two participants of Sony's reality show have been touted week after week as a couple — and have even admitted to the judges, Javed Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan and Kay Kay Menon, that they are fond of each other.
But the truth is, in the final episode of Fame Jodi this Thursday, the Kolkata girl would rather not have Rex as her partner for the Fame Jodi crown. Ruprekha prefers to share the honour with the in-your-face Qazi Touqeer; she wants Andheri-resident Rex to lose.
Sab acting tha
According to Gurukul insiders, the Kolkata girl has, of late, being openly saying, "I'd rather be with Qazi than with Rex!"
This volte-face was evident in last Thursday's episode, when Ruprekha voted against Rex. She preferred to support Arpita Chatterjee, much to Rex's chagrin. It was Qazi's vote for Rex that saved him from being ousted, which ultimately resulted in Arpita making an exit from the show.
When asked, Ruprekha admits, "Yes, I would prefer to be with Qazi." Obviously, she's a smart cookie who knows who the audience favours. So was the entire lovey-dovey, gel-with-Rex act only for the cameras? "That's what everyone thought and assumed," is the reply.
The existing dynamics at Gurukul threw up three options for the title — Rex and Ruprekha or Qazi and Ruprekha or Rex and Qazi as the Fame Jodi.
From day one, Rex and Ruprekha have been touted as the most "romantic jodi", with Ruprekha as the golden voice of Gurukul, while Rex was the prince of performance. However, this act has now fallen through.
Qazi ki pasand
Srinagar-based Qazi has always been vocal about the fact that he and Rex would be a great jodi. In an earlier interview to hitList, Qazi said, "Rex is a great singer and I am a super performer. We will rock together as Fame Jodi." He has also been forthcoming about the fact that Rex is his favourite co-contestant.
Now, with Rex being cold-shouldered by Ruprekha, one is unsure about how she will be able to match up with Qazi's showmanship.
Whatever Ruprekha's choice, the fact remains that it is the audience that will decide the winners. From among the 14 Fame finalists, Rex and Qazi were the only two who did not receive any formal training in music. Yet, they managed to sail through, because of their ability to connect with viewers.
