FameGurukul Postmortem

-- This is for you all IF members

Sony's Fame Gurukul is a Singing Competition reality show .As most of peoples know its a copy of popular Spanish show "Operacion Triunfo" with minor changes .Its really good idea to get some nice wholesome young people ( handsome/beautiful) together to captivate audiences, and no doubt it's going to be successful. Now its going to end in couple of weeks and now Sony will happily hand over 1 million contract to Fame Jodi no matter whoever it is .The main objective of the show is achieved and no doubt next year they will come with this show again. So looking back at this show lets see what worked for this show and what went wrong. There are lot of questions need to answer and there is a huge room for improvement.

Lets see the positive side of the show. There is no doubt that Fame Gurukul got Fame for some of the contestants. Who was Rex before Fame Gurukul just a mere orchestra singer and may have end up with few shows / concerts but look now. Forget Rex what about our own Qazi Touqeer, you can make a movie on his own story. This guy comes from Srinagar and makes millions of public go crazy for him, its all because of Sony and fame Gurukul. You may argue that even without fame gurukul Aripita or Ruprekha or singer like Arijit has great future in singing but just think about the struggle which they don't have to do now, its just because of Fame gurukul. So Fame Gurukul is a good platform for aspiring singers/ actors and in one ways it brings talent from all over India and expose them to the Fame. And without doubt it brings loads of entertainment to millions of peoples.

Lets see what was Sony's objective and what they got. When Indian Idol got a huge success Sony got a Idea that reality shows are here to stay .As such Fame gurukul like Indian Idol is nothing but a Money Making machine. As we all know on commercial Television the more popular the show, the more advertisement space you sell. Its not just advertisement, now they have big mobile / telephone industry behind them. With due respect to all peoples, the general public could not tell the difference between a good singer and a good actor. The fact that the telephone and mobile calls cost average 3 rupees and that there are laks of calls each week. Half is for the telephone company and the other half is nice clean profit for Sony. Again to that if we add the fact that the 'winner' will be contracted by Sony and will future in Sony's album, there are rumors amongst peoples that in no way Sony going to let the vote of a general peoples make any kind of mistake, and so the vote may have got manipulated so as to make sure that the truly best of the participants get through to the final. Thus, all those expensive phone calls are a pure waste of time and money. But still we don't want to believe that and hopefully sony is always fair in public voting, at least we expect this. The contract Sony is giving to the winner is just fraction of what they got so in short Sony is successful in achieving their objective.

After positives and negatives of Fame Gurukul its time to analyze how everyone faired on this show. From Faculty to Presenters to contestants to audiences and of course the head mistress Illa Arun and Jury, everyone tried their own way. Lets see what you guys think and may be I will come up with one more article....Next article may feature Qazi or May be Rex or may be Ruprekha … till then enjoy
