I would have never questioned his judgement if it was a soap serial. 😆 THe question was why should one institution break rule to fit a student ?
From my personal experience I can tell you no institution will ever break a rule. One of my cousin could not enroll herself because she was absent of the day of interview and admission following her father's death. The principal however reffused to buy the excuse saying she should have immediately informed the authorities instead of asking a relaxation now. Although she had good marks the seat was given to another student who was in the waiting list. So, this is how an institution runs.
I trust Gowariker. He is one of my fav directors. So, when I put two episodes together I think I get my answer.
Colonel could not stop Mr. Gupta ( I think that's his name) and Arjun from entering the institute. They are way too influential to be stopped by him. Colonel knows they have no urge to learn the moutaineering skills but their expedition begins and ends with money and fame only. Everest will give them the money and fame and thus this institution is important.
We understand the importance of fame when Arjun asks Akash to keep his camera on while he gloats about his Kanchanjunga expedition
I would assume Akash is mentally unfit for such kind of adventure. Also, Arjun demanded a separate room which he never permitted before. So, the rule was unofficially broken already.
Now that it was broken why not relax it further to admit one person who is not only qualified but have enough guts to cross the limits to get enrolled here?
I think now I can relate to the fact why Anjali was admitted later. It makes sense now.
