I haven't watched the episode but I don't think this is out of character for Baldev, yes he respects Ratan but not as a working woman. Baldev has shown he still lives in the stone age when it comes to the modernized woman, remember what he used to tell Veera how she should stay home and cook and fan him? He used to ask why she wants to do a man's work? So yes he has this male chauvinist attitude for a long time now.

He's respected women but has always been slightly sexist; believing women belong in the kitchen and at home doing housework and not doing mens work.

Baldev is a chauvinist like most men from his background I guess. He thinks that women have certain jobs and men have certain jobs! But the funny part is that in a country that had a female Prime Minister, that too in the 80's, there can't be a female Sarapanch in a punjabi village?? This is backward indeed!! But Baldev was brought up by Bansuri who is an enemy of her OWN sex. The women is the pits really. So what would you expect? She never let her own daughter get ahead in life, how will she tolerate another women doing it? She was always jealous of Ratan coz the whole town always admired her.

But Veera and her family are more modern in their thinking and so is Ranvi. He always wanted his sister who was very intelligent to study further. Not stay at home after year 10 or 12 and become a housewife only.

Not that being a housewife is bad. At the moment I have chosen not to work coz I have two small kids. I worked for 10 years full time. Even after the birth of my daughter. But after having my son, I decided I will take some time off working. I went back to work and realised I didn't have enough time for my kids as my job in finance was very demanding! But I always have the education and the experience to return to work if I chose to! It is about having choices when you are a women. Not being STUCK and always financially dependent on a man.

Ratan has proven that she was WAY ahead of any man in Pritampura. Not only did she run a successful farm, she ran her home and brought up and educated two children. One of whom she educated to become a graduate in Delhi. She has achieved SO much on her own merit. She even won third place in a tractor race for men on behalf of her town. She is a true rock chic and if SHE can't be sarpanch then no man in that town can!!

I am SO glad they show her wining this election!! As for Baldev's respect for women?? I don't think his backward thinking about Ratan being sarpanch is a reflection of any lack of respect for her as a women. It is merely his chauvinistic way of thinking. But if he is going to try to ruin her reputation out of spite?? That I have a problem with!!

I feel Baldev always respected women but being a typical village boy has never been open to the idea of women empowerment. If you recall the incident when Gunjan had to prepare breakfast for the family, Baldev had clearly expressed his views that a women was supposed to do all the household works. Also he kept taunting Veera that she being a girl should sit in the backseat of the bike and let him drive. Since childhood he has been influenced by his mother Bansuri who also holds the same views. He had even seen his mother dissuading Gunjan from studying and concentrate more on beauty and household work. Veera has been brought up in a different environment where her mother has broken the preconceived notions of the society and singlehandedly brought up her children, worked in the fields, took part in male dominated tractor race. But Baldev had had a different upbringing. So he behaves like any other village guy. So for him respecting women is a different thing( which means he will never speak vulgar things about them and will not misbehave with them) and women empowerment is a different thing. He also he needs to be guided by someone so that he can change his outlook towards them. Dunno if I made sense.😕

You have expressed beautifully all that I wanted to say👍🏼 But I beg to disagree at just one point. I don't think he is going to ruin Ratan's reputation, he is definitely going to create problems in her way so that she proves to be a bad sarparnch. He is actually not against Ratan it is just he is against the new Sarparnch because he has lost his dream post to her. This is his way of getting back at his insult. 😕 I am not defending him but trying to think like him.

pinky,i guess after ranvi's out of election his hopes 2 be the nxt sarpanch had gone high, but he definitely knows when ratan comes 2 picture all his dreams will turn 2 ashes,so he wnted 2 get rid of her at whatever cost so he said all those things,he knows that villagers will definitely agree 2 this,i dont think his wanted to disrespect ratan or women intentionally ,plus v all know he's l'ii orthodox like mardo ka kaam" etc
