Yes, Rana is very perceptive and observant on subtleties. Ever since he noticed the eye contact exchange between Gayatri and his mom, he senses the motive to get them close and is now trying to do the same to Gayatri, slow seduction. While Gayatri's attempts are genuine, Rana is being manipulative I think in a childish, tit for tat way. The outcome will be tearful to Gayatri but Rana will not go totally scot free either as he will start to genuinely miss her closeness I think. :)
