Convinced her to watch Thursday's episode...she is a doctor,...and finds frequent fainting spells of Gayatri...over the top as well...😆

They need to keep it believable ...😊 She does like ETR2 and finds Gayatri really pretty to be interested in watching the show...among other things ...😃

Sush, the Cvs have a fondness for fainting, they made Laksh to pretend faint.😆 That was the first time I saw a man doing that on tele.😆

Thanks for the spoiler S
I hope they deal with the issue sensitively even if in regards to 1940s
Hindi serials tend to use the issue for drama purpose only and don't take a moment to forgive the perpetrator without consequences if need be..they have creative liberty to do so but its just so morally wrong..more so in current times in India

Rekha: your take on the spoiler and how it could build the story is great

@red: oh they totally are OTT
Gayatri faints at drop of hat but only when RNJ is around to tend to her
Otherwise she survives the snake bite enough to wander off 😆

Shwets...gotta tell you that your VM is making me appreciate moments from the show even better...saying it here cause this is about the show...certain subtle emotions and actions just end up getting missed in the pace of the story telling...
That exasperated look and the casual way in which RNJ grabs the book from G - that suggests a certain ease that has crept into their relationship. It is no longer stiff and formal, I guess it could never be after a series of near death experiences. However, from RNJ's part, there is an unconscious exercise of right that is getting increasingly obvious...! I found that pulling away of the book so intimate, something you would never ever do unless there was such a sense of familiarity in the relationship.

We all spoke of the reading and reacting but today, that gesture of pulling the book away seemed to say so much more!

Thanks again for the VM!

Clearly your sister doesn't watch Hindi soaps much...if she has been put off by such a mild gustakhi...😆

They are getting increasingly absurd and stupid!

My problem is not even the stupidity but how easily it could have been avoided without compromising on the drama! It suggests an absolute disrespect on the part of the writers to audience sensibilities. They think that they can dish out any silly crap and the audience will take it.

Most unfortunate is the fact that they are actually right, if TRPs are any indication. It appears that the more brazen you get with your violation of sense and sensibility, the more rewarded you will be in the TRP game.

Tragic!

You know I am actually willing to give them the lack of logic ka tadka once in a way...if this kind of nonsense actually brings in a larger audience...it is largely a good show...hope they are able to maintain a balance between sensible drama and such tadka that they believe will lure the mass audience in to do a sample tasting... !

The director is explaining the scene where RNJ comes and stands at the doorway...and watches Gayathri reading a book

( Shwets, this was inspired by your VM btw...Sush, hope you don't mind 😆)

Director - So Sid, the shot requires you to come and stand near the doorway and look.

Sid - How?

Director - What do you mean how? Just walk up to the doorway, stand there and look...

Sid - But how is my question?

Director - Yaar...we are at 11 hours and 13 minutes...only 47 minutes left for the shift to end..and I have to can two more scenes in this time...so just look...

Sid - But Sir...how can I just look?

Director - With your two eyes of course...

Sid - Haha Sir...good joke...but my question was what is the intent behind my look? The purpose? You know what I mean...

Director - No I don't...arre baba...I just asked for a look...ab ek look dene se tera kya jayega...!

Sid - Kuch nahi jayega Sir...but kaise doon...usko define bhi toh karna chahiye na...I mean we need to precisely define the emotion...identify the trigger...

Director - What?

Sid - Trigger Sir...I mean what is running through my mind...why am I giving the look...what emotion am I trying to convey through the look...what impact am I trying to achieve..

Director - Sid...please yaar...I don't need emotion...I don't need impact...I don't need triggers...I just need the look...

Sid - Exactly Sir...what is the look...?

Director - Are you effing kidding me?

Sid - Why would I, Sir? I just want to make sure so I can give it to you in the right measure...you know the right look...

The DOP is walking past just then and calls out...

DOP - Sid...it's not a right look..left look!

Sid gets confused...

Sid - Sir...I didn't mean that right look...

DOP - Exactly...not right look...only left look...

The director throws in the towel!

🤣 I can totally see this happening. And sadly it seems to be the norm in the industry, explains what we get to see and why the viewers complain about lack of expressions.
The TV actors are seasoned at giving these type of generic looks which are blank, and we interpret the way it suits us.
It must be more challenging for theater actors who are used to bound scripts with detailed explanations of everything to just give a blank look😆

Really, Nandy...I can't imagine anything more insulting to an actor's craft than to be asked to perform without a proper definition of the context or the direction in which to take it!

Most often, I hear scripts get written and rewritten on sets! How confusing must that be for someone passionate about their craft and wanting to slip into the skin of the character. That is why I think Sid is doing very well with the body language of RNJ. He has developed a gait, mannerisms, a speech pattern, gestures and nods, and is going with them. However when it comes to expressions, he needs to be given direction. In the sense that an actor needs to be told precisely how long to hold the expression, what kind of variations are required if at all and so on, apart from the context of course! I have been seeing a number of close up shots repeated. So, it is going to look the same because it is the same!

However, there have been instances where he has excelled with his expressions. So you realize that it is not the inability of the actor that is the limiting factor here. It is the lack of precise direction that is limiting him at times.

Like you said, most TV actors are glad to display these stock expressions! It serves as a great cover for some of the czars and czarinas of the TV world, who simply don't have more than three or four stock expressions in their arsenal!

Why bother with excellence when mediocrity is the standard here!
