Rana tells how he has lost everyone in his who was close to him and that is why he is wary and living a lonely life . He makes arrangements of guards while they climb those steps . Gayatri very nicely assures him if we love something we should love it with the happy memories that it gave rather than the pains it brought with it .
Loved the update.

Ranaji needs to get over his past in order to move on with Gayatri. The first step towards that is opening up to her. Loved reading this comment.

You generally show your bold side to the whole world but your vulnerable side to those whom you consider your own. Ranaji unconsciously considers Gayatri as his own. That's why he was able to share his sorrow and pain with her.

Chapter Seven

Gayatri was complaining to Ranaji with great disappointment in her voice, "These diyas keep going off the moment I finish lighting them. I will never be able to complete my vow like this Ranaji."

Ranaji said in an encouraging tone, "There's nothing to be disappointed so soon. There's a lot of wind. I'll also help you in lighting them. Come we'll do it together." You might have understood by now what was happening. All of them had reached the Shiv Mandir and the wind was playing spoilsport in lighting the 108 diyas or to put it in other words it was playng the Cupid in bringing Ranaji and Gayatri together.

Both of them started lighting the diyas. A strong gust of wind blew again blowing out all the hard work both of them had done together. They were able to save just a small diya from extinguishing by simultaneously placing their hands around it at the same time. Gayatri flushed red at the touch of Ranaji's hands encircling hers. Ranaji also looked a bit embarrassed at this sudden touch.

He stood up saying, "This is not done. We will never be able to do it in this manner."

Gayatri while keeping her hand round that lone shining diya said, "That's exactly what I was saying a while back. We will never be able to complete that vow with all this wind around us. All these three sides are open. For how long will we keep guarding against this wind?"

Ranaji shook his head to convey that he did not accept whatever she was saying. He brought three big curtains and instructed his men to tie them on all the three open sides. Now the wind was in control. He resumed lighting the diyas sitting beside Gayatri. They did not extinguish this time. Both of them finished lighting the diyas in a short while before having a darshan of Lord Shiva and praying for the welfare of their people and kingdom.

Gayatri prayed within herself standing before Lord Shiva, "Lord please bless my Ranaji and our kingdom. We are passing through testing times. Be with us and guide us on the right path. And please bring back the smile on Ranaji's face. He has been through a lot since childhood. He deserves some peace and happiness at least now."

Ranaji prayed within himself to Lord Shiva, "Lord please keep everyone in my kingdom happy and prosperous. I don't need anything for myself. And if I'm not asking too much, just fulfill whatever Gayatri is asking you. She deserves all the happiness and love of this world. But it's her bad luck that she is stuck along with me in a loveless marriage. You did not give her the right life partner. At least fulfill whatever desires she has in her mind."

Gayatri with curiosity, "What did you ask, Ranaji?"

Ranaji tried to evade the question saying, "You don't tell whatever you asked God aloud or it will not be fulfilled. By the way, what did you ask?"

Gayatri playfully replied, "Not fair Ranaji. You want your wishes to be fulfilled and not mine? I won't tell you."

Swarnaleka was also lighting diyas in the temple wiping a silent tear from the corner of her eye. Aditya who was observing this said, "I didn't know that you too had a vow to fulfil. Ranaji and Gayatri are doing it for the welfare of their kingdom and people. What else would you need that you have undertaken a vow like this?"

Swarnaleka smiled drily and said, "If it was a thing, Bhaisa would have got it for me the minute I told him. But here the tragedy is that I myself do not know what I want or what I lack. I'm asking Lord Shiva to show it to me. Princesses get things in plenty but love in rarity. They remain as puppets in the big grand show called politics and marriages of convenience."

Her words stuck a tender chord in Aditya's heart. He yearned to wipe out the desperation in Swarnaleka's voice. Her dry and blank expression aroused his feeling of protection. He longed to protect her from all her sorrows though he knew it was wrong on his part to be thinking so about another person's wife. What was so wrong on his part if he wanted to see another human being happy? He knew how stiffling royal rules and etiquette could be. He too was a prince and knew how people had huge expectations from a person belonging to the royal family. It was almost as if they could not have a personal life or desires of their own.

Lakshyaraj was discussing along with his henchmen in the palace, "One attack went in vain. If Ranaji and Aditya had not been there, she would have been dead by now. Now our only chance is a night ambush to finish them all off. It will be night by the time they return from the temple. We can easily attack their party in the guise of night robbers and kill them all. We will have the element of surprise with us. Do you get it? Keep your men ready in the forest today night."

Aditya informed Ranaji and Gayatri that they would be staying near the temple itself as it was not safe travelling back at this time of the evening. They all would be at the risk of a night ambush. So it was decided that they would resume their return journey the next morning.Tents were fixed and arrangements were made for a night stay.

Ranaji and Gayatri were sitting in their tent along with each other sipping tea and eating toast. Ranaji enquired, "I hope you are comfortable here. You would not have thought that we will be stopping over like this in the middle of nowhere. You would have wanted to be in the comfort of our palace by the night, wouldn't you?"

Gayatri chirpily replied, "My palace and comfort are wherever you are. I don't mind being in the middle of nowhere if you are along with me. Hush! Ranaji, just look over there. The sunset looks really beautiful. Those fluffy clouds floating in the sky... that rainbow uniting one mountain with another ...those myriad colours of dusk dancing in the sky...wonderful, aren't they?" She laid her head on his soothing shoulder as both of them continued to stare at the beautiful sunset together.

Laksyaraj's men were getting irritated playing the waiting game in the forest, "How long do we have to wait? They must have been here by now. What happened? We cannot afford to go back or Choote Kunwarji will be very angry with us. Anyhow they have to come this way only. They cannot escape us."

Aditya was speaking to one of the guards. He gave him a letter for dispatch. He instructed him, "Disguise yourself as a villager before you go. You know to whom you are supposed to give this letter."

Precap: Aditya said to Ko-kila Chachi, "I just shot an arrow in the dark and who gets caught...Surprise ...Surprise... Lakshyaraj! Got him outcast and disinherited at my first shot. Let's see who gets caught next time. I believe in winning not only the kila but also the entire war. Everyone will pay...one by one. One down...who next?
