i dont understand what was the need of her mom to explain
she had already said she is a burden and that she has to go soon
so what was the need for this fake softness care and concern
this sounded too much hypocritical to me
she could have just told her she has to get engaged
that would have been the end of story
where was the scope to explain things even now ?
she really seems very fake to me now

I hate her mum now, I was like why the hell is Gayu hugging her on the steps of the mandir, she's doing all hysterics, saying she wants Gayu's happiness by getting her married to an old man with grown kids and shrew for a sister which is doubting the virtue of her daughter already, cursing her and she still is adamant that Gayatri will be happy with these people. Gayu says she was mistaken and accepts her mother is right but is asking for grace period, why does she even bother to speak to her I don't know, its waste of time. All her dialogues today once again are showing us that she believes society concerns and customs are more important to her then any love she has for her daughter.

that entire scene seemed so fake to me
gayatri should not have pleaded with her
she should not have explained anything to her
she deserves just silent treatment nothing more

You know even if mother dear wanted to get gayatri married against her will all she had to do was explain to gayatri sanely why she was so obstinate instead of insulting her and calling her burdensome. She cares for her daughter ...yes..but to literally tear your daughter self respect and confidence to shreds with such harsh words is what I have a problem with.Otherwise she was right I wanting to desperately get gayatri married because the brothers were beginning to show their true colours and ultimately no one would accept gayatri as a member of the househol after her parents passing.

I don't like her character, but I think it is realistic to some extent. In my own family, I have found that, in certain situations, my mother has been more concerned about what society/people will say and my father has been concerned about doing the right thing for us, his children.
If you think about some cultures where women are oppressed, it's the women, especially female relatives, who have often been more strict about enforcing societal practices, traditions, ceremonies. Especially after seeing some of the things in my own extended family, I feel that women, especially those who you would expect would want to protect their daughters from going through what they went through, are the worst enemies and perpetuators of wrongful customs. In a twisted sort of way, they actually feel as if it is normal because they have lived through or experienced those traditions.
