There were who people who challenged such norms one such person was Gauhar Jaan.( She was one of the first performers to record music on 78 rpm records in India, and released by Gramophone Company of India)

There are many accounts of her ostentatious display of wealth and power, where she made sure thatpeople knew her for the star that she was. In one account, she spent Rs 1200 for the wedding ceremonyof her cat, and Rs. 20,000 on a party to celebrate her cat having a litter! She would flout norms and go around town in a 4-horse carriage, even if it meant paying a hefty fine of Rs 1000 a day to the Viceroy. She was fond of races, and while in Bombay, would often spend her day at the racecourse atMahalakshmi and nights at concerts. On one occasion, when she was invited to go to Datia for aperformance, she apparently demanded a personal train to ferry her, along with her retinue of servants, cooks, personal physician, musicians, etc

Well when Govind Seth told his family abt baggi his son's said that its illegal ..so maybe he'll be fined for that ..

uff ..i hate this double standard of royalties ..Royal's kangal hokar bhi flaunting & those who hv money will be fined for using luxuries ..

Perhaps they had made these rules knowingly, so that a commoner can never be able to reach upto their standard.

The way today few things may be available only to Govt. VIPs same way in those days Raja's enjoyed certain things exclusively. Infact in those days class difference was more as Raja's didnt want to lose their supremacy

And See even Diwan of Rajmata replied to Govind seth that "Agar Haathi ko baitha diya jaye toh bhi vo haathi hi rehta hai" (something like that)
It shows the mentality of almost everyone in that time was like this only that no matter what Royals r supreme. Sad though

But soon it will change with Gayatri becoming Queen
