14th Shot - The darkest hours
Dhad !
It was a familiar feminine frame he had accidentally dashed into. His hands had instinctively forwarded to grab onto her waist when he noticed her lose balance.
"Stop" she ordered , gesturing the same with her hand & stumbled against the wall of the elevator as also avoiding her fall in the same process. Withdrawing his hands away from her he stepped back giving a nod. He further saw her push herself off the wall of the elevator & stand upstraight in front of him, her eyes making no eye contact with his throughout.
Silence within the contours of the elevator was only amplifying. Raghav knew he had to get to her , but what was he going to say to her then ... He was clueless. What would he say ? I have planned onto doing somethin with ur brother which u won't like , now I don't feel like doing it ...help me undo it all ? As if that would work ...
But he knew he had to start somewhere before it gets late, so he initiated - "Kalp..."
"What-are-you-doing-here ?" were the words that cut his statement & the silence around like a venomous dagger would lance through the enemy's chest. So long the eyes that made no contact were now penetrating through his like that off a tigress'.
"What do you want now ? Prem is literally on his death bed & you still have the guts to come here ? Ab kya usse maar ke hi saas loge ?"
Raghav was stunned for a moment. He'd never witnessed her react this way before ...the day since he had stepped in her life , he had made it a point to make it as miserable as possible...she would get angry , she would be irritated & fearlessly express the same as well...but never somethin like this ! This time she looked - BROKEN...not the bechaari , damsel in distress broken ...instead the fierce & rebellious broken ! The only word that would define her perfectly was 'dangerous', so much so that even Raghav was rendered blank & even more wordless than he already was.
It was only when the elevator doors opened followed by the ping that broke his trance than he noticed Kalpana walk past him. Once outside he saw her stop, then turned around slightly "Go away ...go away from this place Mr Singhaniya " this time her voice seemed choked yet clearly audible - unlike the words that followed "Go away from my life !"
With that being said he saw her walk , rather run in the opposite direction while rubbing her cheeks with the back of her hands. He didn't know what & how but something was aching in his chest. But he'd always claimed to be heartless, how was that possible ?
Seeing her farthen with every passing second, he shut his eyes 'He had to tell her ' & opened them again - this time feeling a tat bit more determined as he started speaking
"My company every year carries out numerous photoshoots so that the pictures can be printed on our year manuals & calendars we distribute in the market for promotions. This year the theme for our manuals & other stuff is India - for which numerous photographers have been hired. One such photographer we have hired is also going to Kashmir who leaves tonight & has a flight for the same in ...like an hour ... - "
The simpler part of the narration was done , he only was raising his voice so it could be heard by Kalpana who was still running in the long alway of the hospital in the opposite direction. Mentally preparing himself for the difficult chunk he opened his mouth to speak.
He gulped.
"He has to be stopped Kalpana. And for some reasons it isn't in my hands to stop him & that's why I'm here. Its only you who can now stop him ,for that photographer is your brother - ROHISH Kalpana "
He had finally said it , yes he had ! Licking his now dry lips he waited for her to react. What would she do ? Maybe she would come back to him, question him why did he do it all , yell at him , curse him to death or at the least tell him the kind of ogre he was.
A second passed by & then a few more but nothing of that sorts happened.
There was absolute Silence. The thickest version of it.
(Note -: For the ones who have forgotten , re-read 4th shot - The Sister where Kalpana for some mysterious reason was highly against Rohish going to Kashmir which was overheard by Raghav then. Raghav himself doesn't know why does kalpi have a problem with Rohish going to Kashmir, but just because he had seen her bein greatly affected by it , he planned this entire thing which is - as ull can see now backfiring !)
Her back was facing him , so he couldn't even see her expression changes to gauge what was in her mind like he always did. Worried, he took a few hasty steps towards her but stopped advancing when suddenly he noticed some movement on her part. Her upper body shuddered slightly as if she had just breathed out , hands quickly wiped somethin off her cheeks & in one swift turn to the left she bolted down the stairs with a lightening speed.
"Kalpana" he called out & quickly raced upto the dimly lit stairway in order to catch up with her. Once there all he came across was emptiness for she was gone. Running a hand through his hair he hopped a few stairs down in the darkness & sat on one of the steps ,bewildered. Bloody what had he done ? Did he make the correct decision by telling her all of it ? Or should he have tried more on his part to stop her brother...but time constraints !! Why did he have to drag her brother & Prem in all of it in the first place ? His guilt was now at its zenithy zenith, especially after seeing Kalpana's state as flashes of her literally haunted every single sense of his . Nothing seemed important now...neither the baseless revenge & nor proving Sammy wrong. The only thing that mattered was her ...the regular her who would fight against all the troubles that came her way single-handedly (remember he had read her diary ? So he does know that she had faced many hardships in her life) , not this broken kalpi.
Something clicked as he determinedly got off the step he was sitting on "i know i myself am the trouble maker & the reason behind all of it but i promise you kalpana , this time you arent alone !"
Thinking he might still catch up with her if he used the elevator he retreated immediately. Its time to fix things.

Halt halt halt ! Raghav pov bas ho gaya ab. Woh har angle se bhondu hi lagta hai mujhe. Iske baad toh it has to be Kalpu's POV. The next shot would finally wind up this part of the drama before I finally strt paving a way for hardcore ragna. 😳
