PART-10
Sammy came rushing to hospital after receiving the phone call. He was having all sort of thoughts running in his mind. When he came hospital and asked for accident patients who came almost 4 hours before hee was told that they were taken to 3rd floor and also that one of them is majorly injured while other had just minor scratches. Sammy didn't even thought of taking lift. He took staircase but was literally skipping the stairs in order to reach faster but as the distance started decreasing his heart started beating faster . He was praying that both of them were fine but knew that was not the exact situation. He ran towards the OT fear was now replaced with lil relief...he was sitting there with minor injuries on hand and leg, but was numb, his shirt had blood stains of Kalpana, he was tightly holding her clutch
Sammy: Raghav!! was all he could say, tears brimming in his eyes. He was trying to control but tears cheated him. He could no longer hold them back. Seeing him fine was his only wish... but soon tension took over the happiness. Raghav where is Kalpana, how is she? where is she? Haan...answer me where is she? Though he knew the person inside OT is none other than Kalpana but still he wanted to hear it from his mouth. Raghav pointed his fingure towards OT. Sammy closed his eyes though he didnt know Kalpana much but definitely didn't want to see her in this condition. He wanted to know how the accident happened but seeing Raghav's state he knew its not the right time.
4 Hours Before:-
Raghav's car had hit the tree. It crashed out badly. When he woke up he was lying on road. He was shocked to see his car, the only thought that came to his mind was Kalpana. He didn't want her in the car otherwise chances of survival would be Nil.He stood up though was having difficulty to balance himself as his head was spinning badly but he wanted to know where is Kalpana. He went towards the other side of car where she was seated only to find her lying in pool of blood. He was shocked to see her in such a state. He went towards her and tried his level best to wake her up but she was not responding. For the first Raghav was scared he immediately called ambulance which came in few minutes and carried her to hospital. Throughout the journey he was pleading her to answer him back but her body didn't show a single sign. Though the heart beats were still running but the count of beats was decreasing. She was sinking. Raghav was holding her hand when the staff was taking her inside OT. He begged to Doctor to save her, do anything that is required and that is possible to save her. Doctor before entering the OT said Mr Singhania the chances are remote but we will try our level best.
Since then Raghav was seated on that chair without any movement. Sammy was pacing to and fro in the corridor waiting for the operation to get over. His pressure was rising with each passing minute. It has been almost an hour since he arrived. 5hrs before they have been admitted and Kalpana's operation started immediately then what was taking so long. He knew Kalpana was serious and the operation is critical but no one came out since 1 hour and Raghav is not in a state to answer anything. Sammy was taking deep breaths to release his tension but seeing Raghav's state and the words of receptionist that echoed in his mind the tension was only increasing.
Raghav was still motionless and speechless. Raghav Singhnia who stopped believing in God 13 years back was praying with all his heart for Kalpana's well being. Though it wasn't visible on his face but inside he was begging to God for saving Kalpana.1hour more passed by but for Raghav time stopped from the moment he had seen Kalpana in that condition.
It was 10 in morning when finally Doctors came out. Sammy squezzed Raghav's shoulder Raghav followed Sammy's gaze and immediately stood up. He was looking at the Doctors' team with hopeful eyes. A small smile reflecting their victory was playing on their lips. The Senior Doctor Mr Jasraj came towards Raghav. "She is fine and out of danger" . To say that Raghav was happy would be an understatement. He felt as though a huge burden has been lifted off from his shoulders. The same eyes which lacked emotions were reflecting peace. He never felt as happy as today not even when he cracked deals worth crores. Doctor Jasraj put out his hand to congratulate him but Raghav was so overwhelmed with emotions that he unknowingly ignored his gesture. N no of emotions were running in his heart and mind. What he was feeling at that moment was evident on his face. Unconciously he took few steps back & sat on the chair on which he was sitting for last 7 hrs. He hid his face in his palms. Doctor Jasraj gave him sometime to gain composure & after few moments patted his shoulder and said she is fine but...Raghav looked up at him with teary eyes, the pause was killing him.
Raghav : But...but what? (fear engulfed him once again )
Doc: Mr. Singhania you know very well what her condition was when you brought her here, I told you before going inside the OT that chances are remote, yet the lady managed to cheat death. But the effects of accident are yet to be seen. What I want to say is she is fine but not 100%. If I go by my experience, looking at the brain injury, the chances of partial or complete amnesia is very high. Just wait and watch miracle has happened once and she came out from near death, it may happen again and she may recover fully but then... I don't see miracles happening so frequently. Be prepared for the consequences is all I want to say right now.
As soon as Doctor left Sammy turned around only to see Raghav standing there like a statue. Raghav was recalling again and agin what Doctor said moments ago. He felt as though all the peace and happiness he had got on listening that Kalpana is alive has been snatched away from him.
Sammy who was a silent spectator all this while was completely baffled with Raghav's behaviour.Getting worried and tensed was okay, to a certain extent getting scared taking Kalpana's position into consideration was still acceptable but tears and the emotions he had seen on Raghav's face was not making sense to him. Raghav that he knew was strong and emotionless person. Last he had seen him crying was on his parents death bas... after that he was as tough as rock. This unusual behaviour of him was something that he had not seen before. He knew he needed answers and now that he is out of shock he can question him.
Sammy: Raghav are u okay?
Raghav: Ya m fine I just had minor scratches thats it.
Sammy: Raghav whats all going on? I mean I know that you were worried for her, you had seen her in bad condition may be thats y you were scared when doctor talked about the consequences but your staying speechless and crying is not getting into my head. Kalpana is just a day old in our company and your reaction towards the whole incident is completely different. It wasn't like the employer - employee one. What exactly is bothering you? Tell me may be I can explain it to you if you r not able to explain it to yourself.
Raghav looked at him, he felt proud for a moment & thankful enough to have a friend who can effortlessly read his silence as well as his body language. " Sammy, its me who is responsible for her current state since I was driving the car"
Sammy: Raghav I know it was you who drove the car but how come you are responsible for the accident. You also got injured so what if it is minor injury but you did get injured. I don't see you anywhere responsible for this accident.
Raghav told him the entire thing and said Had I concentrated on road I could have managed to save both of us. Luck was on my side and I escaped with scratches where as she fought a long battle for life.
Sammy: Raghav it may be that accident was inevitable then...
Raghav: Atleast I would have been in peace then that I tried to control my car but failed to do so. Its always better to fail then not trying. I didn't try at all or should I say I was so busy in staring at her and getting annoyed on her that I forgot I was driving. Its all because of me Sammy.
Sammy was not totally convinced with Raghav. He knew there was something more to it. Raghav Singhnia isn't that weak. Raghav is that all or is there something else that you would like to share it with me. After all I am not just your best friend but I am like a brother to you. I know you r hiding something and I want to know it.
Raghav knew he cannot escape anywhere now. He has to tell him what he was going through all this time. Raghav who until now was not facing him turned around, he could see the questioning eyes of Sammy on him.He cleared his throat and musterd his courage for he didn't want to break down again.
" Sammy when I brought Kalpana to hospital though she was breathing but it seemed as though she was lifeless. I tried hard to wake her up but she didn't respond to me. Seeing her in such a state reminded me of my parents. How I tried N number of times to wake them up but they didn't . They were gone. Flashes of their lifeless bodies covered by white sheet laying on the floor was coming before my eyes. I just couldn't stop them may be coz they also died in a car accident. Things were not under my control then but today they were. If I had paid attention on road may be...may be circumstances would have been a little better. I had lost my parents due to car accident and that was hovering on my mind continually when I saw Kalpana in such a state. Sammy I have always let my ego over power me but never in my wildest nightmare I thought that it will show me such a day that it will nearly take someones life.
Raghav told Sammy about the lift incident and also that Kalpana didn't apologise to him. Sammy I was so angry on her coz she didn't apologise to me that my ego didn't let me see or do anything else apart from staring her in anger and finding ways to get back to her. I wasn't actually seeing the road otherwise...13 years back I allowed my ego to grow within me and when I started achieving heights I allowed it to rule me but today...but today it made me fall from sky and the pain is so deep that I can't express it in words.
Sammy was listening to him patiently he wanted Raghav to let go off his pain that he is carrying since his parents death. He knew somewhere he is definitely responsible for Kalpana's condition but today he saw Raghav's Ego getting crushed by the guilt that was evident in his eyes. He knew the Raghav Singhania standing before him is now a changed man.
Ego lies in mind and hence the body language speaks for it but guilt lies in heart and eyes speak for it. Raghav's body language until now spoke about the Big Fat Ego that he had but now his eyes reflected the gulit that he carries in his heart.
Strange are the ways of life, it took 13 years for Raghav's Ego to grow and rule him but it only took one accident and few hours to crush it forever.
