Season 1 Episode 1: Lunch at the office
Pakhi smiles as she looks at the clock, thinking that any time now her friend shall come down for breakfast. She rushes around setting everything perfectly for him, telling herself, "Soon my friend shall become my husband because Kamla maa said that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach." Pleased with herself, she poses by the banister waiting for Ragav to come down.
Ragav runs down the stairs, glances at his watch, thinking, "Oh gosh I am going to be late for the meeting." He zooms past Pakhi and the decorated dining table, oblivious of the effort Pakhi has put to make him breakfast.
Pakhi calls out, "Ragav are you not going to have breakfast before heading off to the office. " Ragav turns, smiles and says, "I didn't see you there." He looks at the table, turns back to Pakhi, guilt in his eyes and says, "You are an amazing friend. After having wronged you, you are here with a smile looking out for my interest. Alas I have an early morning meeting that I don't want to be late for. I shall eat at the office", and heads out, his mind focusing back on the meeting at hand.
Pakhi watches him go, her smile turning to a frown as she thinks, "Don't think I don't know that the name of your early morning meeting is Kalpi." She smiles dreamily and says, "Ragav I won't give up on you easily, I shall surprise you at the office with lunch", heads back into the kitchen to plan a feast enough for a king.
Eager to hear his beloveds voice, Ragav calls Kalpi on his way to work.
Ragav: Hi hun
Kalpi smiles hearing his voice: Morning
Ragav: I miss you so much.
Kalpi laughs: You see me everyday.
Laughing Ragav replies: It is not enough. Come to the office today... make me lunch wife.
Kalpi blushes: Okay. See you at twelve.
At five to twelve, Ragav clears his desk, heads towards the boardroom with Sammy, telling him, "Make sure I am not interrupted, I have a lunch date with Kalpi at twelve." He smiles when he sees the decoration Priya, his secretary had arranged, pleased with her arrangements.
Kalpi walks in shyly, smiles at Sammy and politely asks him to join them for lunch. Sammy declines and teasingly says, "Two is a couple, three is a crowd... you husband wife enjoy your lunch date." Ragav waits for Sammy to shut the door, then pulls Kalpi into his arms, kissing her like a man parched, whispering in between kisses, "Come home with me." Kalpi looks at Ragav with disbelief and says, "Not this again, Ragav your your paperwalla biwi is staying in your home. I cannot stay there."
Ragav sighs and says, "Kalpi, hun I have apologised a thousand times. The law demands one year of living together before we can apply for divorce. And Pakhi has agreed, we are now friends and she has accepted that you, my sindoorwalli biwi is my only wife", he ends teasingly as he nuzles her neck. He adds, "What if she agrees that you come and stay with me? Will you come then?" Kalpi crosses her arms and says, "Hmm... I shall think about it. Come on let us eat before the food gets cold."
At ten to one Pakhi walks in, smile on her face as she anticipates the surprised look Ragav will give her, thinking, "He is going to be so pleased that I made the effort of making him lunch." Priya takes one look at Pakhi approching her with a picnic basket, trying to contain her panic she quickly calls Sammy, "Sir, we have a problem." Using the code they had come up with PW for paper wife and SW for sindoor wife, she quickly says, "PW is here and Ragav sir is with SW. What do I do sir? Help!"
Sammy rushes to Priya hoping to get there before Pakhi. He calls out just as Pakhi is about to speak to Priya, "Pakhi, what a pleasant surprise? What are you doing here?" Pakhi smiles and says, "I decided to surprise Ragav with lunch. Where is he?" Sammy looks at Pakhi comically as he thinks of what to say, he ends up with, "err.. he is in the washroom. Come let me help you set lunch up in his office." Quickly pushing Pakhi into the office and shutting the blinds.
Pakhi loks at him with a frown and says, "What are you doing?" Smiling, Sammy explains that he thought Pakhi and Ragav would like some privacy as they have lunch. Pakhi grins, saying, "Good idea" and sets up two plates on Ragav's desk while Sammy rushes to the boardroom to warn Ragav... all the while thinking, "How do I tell Ragav without Kalpi finding out?"
He walks into the boardroom and says, "Ragav." Ragav frowns at the interruption for he was very clear when he had stated no disturbance. Kalpi blushes and gets up from Ragav's lap as Ragav thunderously says, "What?"
Sammy gulps at the anger he reads in Ragav's eyes and says, "Times of India's Publisher Weekly's editor is here for an impromptu interview." Ragav looks at Sammy in confusion for Times of India has no section called Publisher Weekly. Sammy looks at Ragav pointedly and repeats, "Publisher Weekly is here."
Kalpi looks at Sammy and then at Ragav and says, "Ragav, just go and meet this person, obviously it is important otherwise Sammy would not interrupt us. She begins packing away the empty tiffin and says, "I shall see you later. You head back to work."
Ragav looks at Kalpi apologetically and says, "I shall be right back." Once outside the boardroom, he blasts, "What the hell Sammy, I..." Sammy interrupts him, "Pakhi is here, in your office with surprise lunch." Ragav freezes, stands still staring at Sammy, his mouth open because he was mid sentence, "What Pakhi here... lunch... omg I just ate." He looks at Sammy and says, "Publisher Weekly?" Sammy sheepishly replies, "Paper Wife."
He rushes to his office, after telling Sammy to make sure Kalpi leaves without seeing Pakhi because she will get upset, he enters his office, looks at Pakhi with a smile and says, "What a pleasant surprise buddy?" Pakhi grits her teeth for a split of a second, then composes herself an smiles, saying, "You missed breakfast and so I thought to bring lunch." She looks at Ragav innocently and says imploringly, "Did I do anything wrong?" "No no", Ragav says, rushing to reassure her, "It is good you came. I am starving", and proceeds to eat the food laid out for him as quickly as he can.
Once Pakhi leaves, he clutches his belly and calls Priya, "Please bring me an antacid and a glass of water." Sammy comes in with Priya, waits for Priya to leave and says, "Why didn't you just tell Pakhi you had already eaten."
Ragav closes his eyes and moans in pain, says weakly, "You wouldn't understand. Main majboor hoon!"
