Chapter 2

Present

After the first session of the interview kalpi went back to her home. She still lives with Kamla and vitthal. She just didn't want to separate from her family because they're the only thing she has now. She was about to go to the kitchen when her daughter whose eight walks in with pakiya. She looks at her mom and happily walks to her. "Mom, guess what." She says happily

"I got an A on my test." She says excitedly

"Waw, Ritisha, you're just like kalpana when she was young. You're such a smart girl." Vitthal says picking her up and spinning her around.

"I want to be just like mam." She says admiring her mom.

"You're already like your mom Ritisha, you have her round innocent eyes, her round face and her brains. What more can you ask for." He says

"I want to be successful like her." She says

"You will be honey, just focus on your school and no boys then your fine." Says Kamla

"Don't ever give up on what is right and don't ever question what you feel." Says kalpi

Ritisha looks at both of them with her innocent eyes then says "ok then I won't question my intention on liking girls." She says smiling happily

Everyone froze "what Ritisha?" says kamla

"I like girls." She says

"You must be confusing bacca." Says Kamla

"No Dadi, I like girls. Mama said never to question my feelings so is she lying to me then?" she says giving kamla a heart attack, vitthal wiping the smile of his face and pakiya confuse.

"No, Ritisha I'm not wrong. This is just." Kalpi said trying to form a better word to make her understand. She was busy thinking when Ritisha started laughing, and then she says

"Got you mama" Kalpi was confused at first but soon she understands.

"You trickster" She says smiling and running after her in the house. Everyone smiles and watches the mother and daughter interacts.

"She always has time to play with her daughter." Says vitthal

"Of course Ritisha is her responsibility. She's suppose to give her children there full attention." Kamla says making vitthal look at her.

When the sun went down everyone went to bed, all except kalpi. She couldn't because the interview brought some unwanted memories. She wipes her tears remembering what happened at the hospital.

Scene 1

Kalpi and paki both look at each other. You could see two different emotions from both of them. Paki confuse on why kalpi claim to be Raghav wife and kalpi surprise that paki found out. Kamla was also shock, she knew paki will be hurt, she felt really guilty. The doctor confuse on what's going on says "I don't know what's going on but I was referring to kalpana vitthal Singhania." He says making paki eyes wide.

"What's going on here?" he says

"Nothing doctor, I'm kalpana can you please tell us what's wrong with him." she says

The doctor looks at her and says "he has lost a lot of blood and will be unconscious for 2 weeks." He said worrying kalpi and paki

"He needs blood. But so far we haven't found anyone that could match his blood type" he said gauri and Sammy parents offer their blood to the doctor, they went in the room to get tested, when they came out they were sad.

"So does it match yours?" says paki making them shook there heads

Everyone took turns going in and was disappointed. The last one left was kalpi. She went in and took the test. Please let my blood be his type she thought praying to the gods. They took small portion of her blood and test it then when they came back, they hook some stuff on her arms and inject her with a needle. Kalpi could see the blood coming from her body and entering the bag. This continues for an hour and a half. They filled up the big bag they told her to rest and gave her food which she refuses to eat.

"Don't worry about me doctor, please help Raghav as soon as possible." She says feeling dizzy.

Agreeing to her request the doctor left the room and went back to the emergency room, leaving everyone to themselves. Paki was jealous she knew kalpi blood matches Raghav, why else would the doctor leave the room and go to the emergency room, and also there's no kalpi in sight. Kamla walks up to paki who moves away from her.

"Paki please wait." She says desperate.

Scene 2

"When were you going to tell me?" she asks

"I wanted to tell you the day, this happened but when I heard you so happy I couldn't." she said kalpi looks at kamla angrily then she says "I can't believe you would hide this from me. It shows you don't consider me your daughter." She says

"I do paki, you come before anyone else happiness." She says

Kalpi was leaving the room when she heard kamla say that. She was sad and her weak state does not help.

"It doesn't seem that way kamla-ma. After all you let them get married." She says turning away from her, kamla grabs her hand and says "don't turn away from me paki please, I love you more than kalpi. You know that, why else am I always taking your side." she says kalpi knew paki was there so she pretends like she was oblivious to her being there. When she came out fully, kamla sees her, her eyes shock and sad. "Kalpi" she says

Paki walks to her and stood in front of her. Then she slaps kalpi, shocking everyone.

"I considered you my sister and even treated you like one and this is how you repay me." She says

Kalpi stayed quiet, she was already emotionally tired she didn't want to overwhelm her self.

"How could you do this to me kalpi?" She says shaking her shoulder

"You destroyed my marriage with Raghav just so you can steal him away from me." She says yelling everyone in the hospital stop to watch what's going on.

"I bet your whole family knows. I'm probably the only one that doesn't know. Even kamla ma the one I trusted knew about this and didn't tell me." She says tears coming from her eyes

"I bet everyone was so happy to make you Raghav wife. Your family is no different from everyone else. Like kamla says the rich should stay with the rich while the poor suffers. Also I will make sure you suffered like how I am suffering and make sure Raghav forget you and everything that has to do with you." she says angrily holding her shoulder tightly.

Kalpi tired of everyone lectures told her angrily "remove your hands from my shoulder before I break it." When kalpi didn't she grabs her hand even though she was weak right now and removes it. "I kept quiet the whole time you were yelling at me, your acting like I can see the future. I didn't know Raghav was gonna do that, but when he did I was happy. Yes I will admit it I'm happy Raghav married me out of his own free will." She says making paki mad, paki retaliate and slaps her again making her head turn to the side. Kalpi looks at her with more confidence and says "what we did was wrong, but our love for each other was so strong, even the gods couldn't deny it. So yes if being in love and marrying someone you love and vis-versa is a sin than I don't care, I'm glad it happened." She says paki was about to slap her for the third time when kalpi grabs her hand

"You don't really mean that kalpi." Says kamla getting her attention

"I do Ai. I'm tiered of keeping this a secret because you wanted me too. I'm so glad it's out, that everyone knows the truth that I kalpana vitthal Jadhav is married to Raghav Singhania." She says looking at everyone

Just when paki was about to say something the doctor came. Everyone turns to him and waited for him to speak. He cleared his voice and says "Raghav will be alright but like I said we wont know what state his in until his awake. Give it two weeks and we will find out." He says kalpi felt relieved. She was so happy that he was alive, but she was a little bit worried. Paki looks towards kalpi who was smiling she thought to herself, I will ruin your happiness just like you ruined mine. You will come no where near Raghav." She thought.

Scene 3

During thoughs two weeks kalpi didn't eat, she would go to the temple and pray for Raghav health and for him to wake up then would step in the hospital shrine and pray some more until sleep catches her. Some of the nurse would come to her asking her to eat but she would refuse. She would say to them "I won't eat until he wakes up."

"How long will you be fasting, its two weeks already and he still hasn't woken up." Says one of the nurse

"You might die of starvation Mrs. Singhania." Another said

"I don't care if I die, as long as Raghav is alive and well." She says

The following 3 weeks later everyone heard the news about Raghav waking up, all except kalpi. She was at the temple still praying for Raghav.

Meanwhile Raghav looks around the room; the doctor was checking him to see if everything was ok. After he was done, he asks Raghav if he knew what day it was. He says June 25, 2014" he said

"You see Raghav you've been sleeping for 3 weeks now. We had to give you blood. If it wasn't for your wife, you would be dead." He says

"My wife?" says Raghav trying to remember something.

"Ah, yes you are very fortunate to have someone like her, she not only gave blood she took care of you when you were in comma and prayed every day making sure you were well and alive. She's continued to fast saying she won't eat until you wake up." He says then getting up to call her.

Raghav kept repeating the word wife until he had a flashback when she was wearing a red sari coming to his party. Then he remembers her saving him from dying and also surprising her at his house with the wedding ceremony and marrying her. Quickly the face started to appear and just when he was about to see it paki burst through the door. Worried, and rushing to his bed.

Raghav looks at her lovingly and says under his breath "my wife"

Paki kept talking telling him how worried she was and how she prayed for him everyday. Raghav smiles and says "I know, I'm sorry I made you worried." Then he grabs her hand rubbing it gently surprising paki. Soon everyone came in worried. They all were happy to see him alive. Raghav looks at each of them and felt someone or something was missing, he just didn't know what or who.

Paki was about to leave to get Raghav some food when he grabs her hand saying "don't leave; I don't want you to leave my side." Shocking everyone

When kalpi heard the good news from the doctor, she thanks her god and happily rushed to the hospital. When she reached there, she opens the door going to Raghav side and says "Raghav I'm so happy you're awake." Paki rolled her eyes while Raghav looks at her strangely. He felt like he knew her from somewhere, but at the same time he didn't. He tries to remember her but he couldn't.

Looking at her round eyes his heart skipped a beat for a second. Why am I reacting like this when I have a wife?" He thought

"Are you ok Raghav?" she asks putting her hand on his right hand worried. Raghav removes her hand away from shocking everyone once again. He could see the hurt in her eyes but he didn't care because she was nothing to him. Paki was also confused but was happy. Raghav continues to look at kalpi and says "who are you?" making everyone gasp

Kalpi was surprise and hurt, she wanted to cry but instead held it in and says "it's me kalpana."

"Kalpana" he says then he said "I'm sorry but I don't know anyone name kalpana."

"What are you saying Raghav, kalpi is your wife." Sammy said

"Wife, You're wrong Sammy, the only wife I have is paki." He says kalpi not liking his answer walk away, the nursed look at her sadly. They felt sympathy towards her. Once kalpi left paki smiles and thought to herself this is perfect, I will take care of Raghav and he will fall for me and when he remembers he will realize that kalpi wasn't there for him instead I was and then he would realize how much he loves me. She thought

Kamla saw kalpi leaving and stops her. She looks at her daughter crying then she wipes the tears from her eyes. "You see that kalpi; even the gods don't want you anywhere near Raghav. The gods have blessed them both by giving them a second chance. This is what your love brings, pain to you and Raghav, so please forget him and move on, live our dream." She says hugging her.

"Raghav saved our life, Ai. How can I forget him? His husband too not only paki's, how can you make me sacrifice my love for Raghav for paki." She says removing herself from kamla

"You're forgetting kalpi that your marriage is a sin, it's your love for him that brought him to the hospital." She says then says "please for our sake leave him alone and concentrate on our dream." She says

Kalpi ignores her and turns her back on her, she then started walking feeling dizzy and tears coming out of her eyes. Vitthal and everybody else came out just in time to see kalpi hit the floor. When she hit the floor, all she could was Raghav voice saying paki is his wife. She didn't hear people calling her name or see her dad running to her. She felt like half of her soul was ripped from her body. Closing her eyes she let sleep take her.
