Part IV - Splintered
They were lost in their own world until they heard hooting and whistling. She was already blushing, but the hooting of the wicked bystanders made her feel uncomfortable and conscious about her body as her clothes were stuck to her. Her breath became rigid as she gulped. Raghav clasped his hand around her wrist. The force that he exerted left marks on her writs when he made her sit in the car. The slamming of the door made her flinch. He was angry; there was a burning flame in his eyes. How dare they look at her like that?
She didn't open her eyes. She hated the sigh of violence. She hated the sight of him getting hurt. She held on to the seat tightly, so much that her knuckles turned white. She waited and it felt like the moment of uneasiness was never going to end. She felt a hand on her shoulder and that broke her anxiety. She came face to face with his brown eyes and they still had subtle anger in it.
"There was no need for such violence." She whispered as she turned her head away from him.
"Seriously?" She could hear the shock in his voice and the anger rising up again. "They were staring at you with filthy intentions."
"SO WHAT?" She let it out frustratingly.
"Are you kidding me?" He just gave her a fierce look along with disbelief. "Do you even have one bit of an idea that what the hell were they thinking?"
"Do you even realize that you could have gotten hurt?" Her voice was low and cracking as if she was about to cry.
He couldn't understand Miss Kalpana Jadhav. She didn't care about herself, but instead she was concerned about him to the point that it brought tears to her eyes.
"I am okay." His voice felt comforting until she saw his bruised knuckles. She just sighed and turned her neck away from him with heavy heart. She knew he was too stubborn to listen to her about anything.
The silence in car was dense. She was feeling guilt and he was feeling bad. To erase the tension he turned on the radio. His lips curved up into a small smile when he realized his situation. A rainy night, the runny crystals swishing against window soothing their apprehension, a romantic song on the radio and the girl he might, just might have feelings for. The delicate romance unintentionally found its way into his bland life.
The chawl came in the view and barely both of them realized. They were lost in their own splintered worlds yet they found the way to mend their fractures within each other. They were far from each other yet connected to each other through thin thread of pain and desire.
"Wait here." He nodded as she left up to her designated place.
He ran his through his hair as he watched her figure disappear through the gates. How could she matter to him that much? Was he even good for her? Would he be able to heal her wounds? The knock on the window brought him out of his trance. She was standing there with an ice-pack under a red umbrella.
He rolled down the window and shivered as the frosty current of air found its way in the warm car. She put the ice-pack on his knuckles and stood there.
"No need for that I am-"
"Just shut up." She rolled her eyes and huffed.
His eyes shot up to hers as she caressed his hand with hers to see how bad it was. There was temptation, desire and passion. There was everything but there were some barriers too. Their struggles, their wounds, their broken trusts.
"You look like a tamatar." He chuckled.
"WHAT?"
She squinted and pressed the ice-pack harder on his hand and he yelped. Her trademark sly smirk appeared on her lips, seeing that he couldn't hold his laughter in either. Seeing her smile gave him another kind of warmth. It felt like a warm breeze in December's cold night.
"Keep smiling like that, you deserve it." He stroked her cheek with his spare hand.
What I deserve is always taken for me. She stared at him with agonizing eyes, but she nodded hiding her aching memories. She watched him drive off in the darkness as they parted. The rain and fog engulfed the car and she could barely see the strike off red. The red to her seemed like a ray of hope because he left with the promise that tomorrow he would bring the happiness of entire world.
