Dev is a good fielder- How symbolic

So what is the role of a fielder in a cricket match. He is basically a defence mechanism against the opposition team. A fielder can convert a sure shot boundary to a single by stopping the ball. A ball that is going for a six can turn into a wicket when he takes that brilliant catch just outside the boundary line. He can be a irritant to the batsman by denying those singles forcing the batsman to go all out and attack lifting the ball which can either result in a catch or a stumping. Who doesn't love to watch those direct hits that results in run outs.

In other words a great fielder changes the course of the match but he is not the " Man of the Match". He has no existence if the batsman and bowlers in his team are not playing well. His brilliance comes out only when there is enough score to defend or his batsman can chase the total that is put on the board.

And we all know field setting is placed knowing how a bowler bowls and how a batsman will attack. So some level of understanding on his team's ability as well as the opposition team's ability is needed for a fielder to perform to his fullest potential.

So an asset can be a liability if does not understand how things are happening. His porous fielding can result in extra runs, catches dropped in other words a fielder not in sync with the team can be a liability to the team.

In other words fielder is very important in winning or losing a match. His position is very important in the field.

So Dev is basically the defence mechanism of Team Durga. When he was playing from gallery without understand how Durga is bowling and Sakshi is batting he was a big liability to Durga. His blunders almost cost her the match too. And yes a fielder not contributing to the team's cause is a irritant to viewer's also. I don't have to tell how much we were irritated by his slips where he made a single to a boundary, catch was dropped, threw wide to give extra run to Sakshi team.

Now to some extent he has understood how his bowler is bowling and how the batsman in other end are attacking. So he will move in such a way so as to defend his team. He did it when he invited Basu for breakfast. From Durga Dev understood Kangana will break engagement. But since nothing was said officially he concluded Durga's next target is Basu. Durga has some plans to attack Karan and Basu. So it was in her best interest he does not challenge Basu in any way. Durga will move the attack it was necessary that till she moved Basu does not cause any danger to him or Durga.

So he used his position and invited Basu. Basu the politician took the bait. Because Basu doesn't care who he befriends. And as long as Dev doesn't talk anything about Payal case and keeps his funding going Basu has no problem with him.

So by keeping Basu in good humour he is indirectly helping Durga. Old Dev would have gone and created a ruckus trying to break Karan-Kangana engagement since no one else was doing it and it would completely underminded Durga's plan as if Dev had got the enmity of Basu her energy will be lost in protecting him than bringing down Basu.
