Simone Singh as Shakshi Goenka has caught the essence of the powerful lady with grace and dignity.

I don't think anyone else could have done justice to this role except Simone.

Portraying any particular age for an actor should not be a problem if they can carry it off with panache.

Women in Indian Film Industry tend to take a back seat after they get married but I find there are shows that are bringing some of the Senior Actresses back on TV.

One example is Ek Nayi Pehchan where Poonam Dhillon and Rati Agnihorti are pretty much the central characters.

I am glad they they come back so we can enjoy the skills at emoting no matter how old they are.

I don't think Simone took much of a backseat. She got married in 2000 when she was young and at peak of her career. But kept working in serials till 2004. Then took to nonfiction, hosting live shows and movies. She has no kid. I feel she and her husband live in nuclear family and she herself says he always lets her be.

I do not think marriage slowed her. She herself seems to be a maverick.

I was talking more about film and TV people making women much older than they are. Ekta made Shweta and Smriti grannies when they were 26. Too uncalled for.

If Simone looks so young then why make her mom of two grown kids?

TV wallahs also age out men. Ayub Khan has been playing dad to 20 somethings since he was in his 40s. He is younger than 3 Khans of Bollywood. They can play college kids still. But Ayub has to be dad or grand dad.

Raw deal.

Well, it is the way it is. Its the society that sets the rule. As for the Tv industry there are actually too many actors whereas the bollywood is ruled by a fraction of people. Age hardly is a factor in this industry . What matters is if they can play it or not. As Ayub and Simone play roles much older than their real age, the shows that revolve around teenagers , at least most of them don't have teenage actors at all. I still remember a show on starplus called Tere liye, the young girl was a college going kid yet played the role of a school girl.

It happens all the time. No hard feelings after all they are all but actors.

Actors sure do their job but I was just commenting on unfairness of the industry.
Anyway Ayub and Simone do a fab job in whatever they take up. 😊

I think a lot of it is because of weight issues and looks. (Esp Ayub Khan and Simone's case)
Simone had svelte figure as Camilla in Kal ho na Ho...now that she has put on some pounds, she looks more womanly than girly.
Vatsal Seth is still blessed with boyish looks and is playing (and justifying) a much younger guy. BUt he really is 33?!! 😲 I am amazed with his young looks!

I agree with bad trend though which makes people in their 30s play fathers and mothers. But with daily soaps and TONS of new faces coming up everyday; the actors lose their freshness very quickly.
