When, if at all, will we warm up to ladies with shades of grey?

The TRPs, came as a shock to many, but I'm sure many had feared the same from Day 1. Many reasons can be cited for this, but the main reason as I see it? A leading lady, with shades of grey.
Why is it that we are unable to see women in colors other than a pure white or an evil black? Why does every woman character in every successful television show, need to be either an angel descended or a devil incarnated? Either she is the vamp with the heavy saris and big bindis, that ensures the perpetual misery of the leading pair and their families, out of greed, malice, envy or lust, or she is the compulsive do-gooder, the upholder of her family's values, the problem solver of the extended clan of her dear husband, the pati-vrata wife, the obedient daughter in law, the ever loving mother, and what not?!

Trust me, I have NOTHING against such characters. I love most of them to be frank. But why does it so happen that when a show is made about a lady who is neither purely good, and nor is a villain, that we, the audience find it difficult to accept her? When the male counterparts can get away with it, when they can be as rude or arrogant or abusive as they can be, even while being the main lead, why can't the heroine be such?
I once read an article long ago about how Indian television's male leads can get away with adultery, whereas the female lead gets loathed if such an act is committed.

All I can say is that I hope Star Plus allows this show to see to its proper end, and not simply cancel it by saying, "Sorry buddy, but TRPs run us."

TRPs wil increase..But slowly and steadily...it face a very tough competition frm other 8 pm shows and IPL too..IPl matches starts at 8 pm..and nobody wil miss d first half an hour of 20-20 matches..for a new show, ofcourse not..I think it's d major reason of dis trp..dis show is different..so it'l take time to get acceptance frm viewers..dat's it..

I say they should shut down all the saas-bahu crap and make more shows like EHT, then TRP aunties will not have any other choice but watch these shows only ! and I'm sure they will love them !

Top Post!!

The show airs too early I feel. It should have been a 10.30 or 11 pm show. Would have done better then I believe.

Looks like the audiences are not ready to move out of the comfort zone of saas -bahu serials.

My first post here.

I dont see Durga as having shades of grey. In fact more realistic than the usual saas bahu leading ladies.
I like the show, its different and we dont get something like this often. But when we do the majority of the audience is not ready to accept it.

And i agree, if male leads can get away with having shades of grey, then why not the ladies.
