Part 1
IT was one of those lazy Sunday mornings. Shravan was peacefully sleeping. Sumo had woken up a little earlier and was looking at her husband's face with a contented smile on her face. it has been almost a year into their marriage, a roller coaster ride of 11 months. All truths had come out and they had slowly solved their misunderstandings by talking through them patiently. They had started understanding each other much better. She was thinking about her life in the last one year and was smiling to herself. Shravan woke up to find her smiling to herself.
Sh: What brings that smile to your face wifey?
Su: You...
Sh: What?
Su: Yeah Shravan you. You are the bane of my existence...my strength, my weakness, mera pyaar, mera dard, mera happiness, mera sorrow...mera sab kuch. And I was smiling to think how lucky I am to get you as my life partner.
Sh: Wow...what happened? My wifey is all dramatic today haan? Kuch khaas hai kya?
Su: shut up Shravan. You know that like you, I am not somebody who is vocal about what I feel, and when I do express my thoughts and feelings you only make fun of me.
Sh: Sorry yaar. Of course I know what you feel for me...you don't have to tell me for me to realize it. I love you Sumo for who you are. Don't try to change yourself at all. Saying so he hugged her tightly and kissed her on her forehead with love, warmth, affection all bundled into one kiss.
Su: Shravan let's get up. I have to go and make breakfast.
Sh: Who wants breakfast when I have you?
Su: Shravannn let me go.
Sh: Sach me, Sumo there is nobody at home except us both and when we have each other why do you want breakfast. Saying so he proceeds to make her his once again.
Sumo starts feeling queasy when she is making lunch. She rushes to the toilet and throws up. Shravan hears her throwing up and comes running to her side. He holds her head, pats her back and helps her wash her face. he makes her sit on the living room sofa and gives her water. She drinks it and feels better.
Sh: What happened Sumo? Did you eat anything from PCT? May be that is why you have food poisoning...and smirks...
Sumo gives him her angriest glare : Shravannn
Sh: Just joking Sumo. Seriously what happened? Shall we go to the doctor?
Su: Not required. I just need to go to the medical shop and be back. Then I shall know what to do.
Sh: Why do you have to go in this condition?
Su: Don't worry Shravan. I am alright. I shall be right back.
Sumo goes to the medical shop and gets a pregnancy test kit and comes back. She goes to the toilet and gets the pregnancy test done. It is positive. She is elated, happy beyond measure. But at the same time she is scared to tell Shravan. She remembers the conversation they had 3 months back.
Flashback:
Su: Shravan I want to talk to you about something.
Sh: Haan, Sumo tell me...
Su: Shravan don't you think we need to consider about having a family. Everything has fallen into place now - you have reconciled with your parents, you have established yourself as a lawyer independent of your father's firm, my PCT is also going well. So why are we still not considering it?
Sh: Sumo, I have told you before. I am worried, scared that I may not be able to be a good father to my kid. What if I also become like my dad?
Su: Shravan how many times have I told you that you are not your father? You are such a gem of person that you cant think of doing bad even to your enemy so how will you hurt your own kid.
Sh: No Sumo, not now. Let us think about this after about 1 year.
Su: But Shravan please yaar...I want our family to be complete...
Sh: No Sumo, I don't want any further discussion on this topic. Let us think about this one year later.
Sumo walks away angrily.
Sh: Sorry Sumo. I have to do this otherwise I might lose you. I cant take this risk. He remembers what Dr.Khan the gynecologist had told him a few weeks ago.
Sumo had fainted one day in PCT. She was rushed to the hospital by Preeta and informed Shravan. He comes rushing to the hospital. Dr. Khan had taken a lot of tests and had called Shravan for a discussion on the results of the tests.
Dr: Mr.Shravan your wife is very weak and anemic. That is why she has fainted. Nothing to worry about. Please make sure that she eats lot of green vegetables and iron rich fruits. I shall also prescribe her some medicines. Let her take them as well. Now for the most important part - Please listen to this carefully - Mr. Shravan your wife's uterus is very weak. It cannot withstand pregnancy. If she gets pregnant you may lose her during delivery. I am not saying it is definite but it is a possibility. It is a 50-50 chance. So I would advise you to use precautions and keep her away from becoming pregnant.
Shravan although shattered promises the doctor to take care.
Sh: Sumo I know how much you love kids. And you have told me so many times that you want alteast 2 or 3 kids to complete our family. But if I tell you of your health condition you will go ahead and take the risk. But I cant take that risk. I shall take the blame on myself and say that I am not prepared for children yet and try to keep pushing it.
Current:
Sumo is very scared about Shravan's reaction if he hears the news. He had specifically said that he does not want kids now. She knows he will be upset that she has not listened to him.
Su: Shravan where are you?
Sh: Yeah Sumo are you alright?
She goes and sits next to him. She takes his hand in hers and starts talking: Shravan please listen to what I am going to say. Gussa math hona. Promise me that you will listen to me fully and then react.
Sh: Okay I promise. Ab bolo...
Su: Shravan I am pregnant.
Sh: Kya? Kaise?
Su: Kaise matlab? Jaise sab hothe hai...
Sh: But how Sumo? We take precautions everytime. How can this happen?
Su: Shravan precautions are not 100% foolproof. Anyhow this is good news only na? Why are you so upset?
Sh angrily: Sumo I told you that I am not ready for kids now. I don't want that responsibility on my shoulder now. Why were you not more careful? I thought you were having your contraceptives and that is why I did not take any precaution. If I had known that you would be careless, I would have done the needful. Why are you always like this Sumo? Meri feelings ki koi kathar nahi... what I feel does not matter to you at all? You have not changed at all. You were like this when you were 16 and now at 26 also you are the same.
He walks out of the house in anger. Sumo is crying...
