Nirmala failed as a mother... She choose her self respect over her son's future... A mother can do anything for her son/daughter but what she did nothing... Nirmala aise time par apne bete ko chod ke chaligayi jab usse apne maa ki sabse jyada jaroorat thi and the result is for everyone to see what shravan is right now... She was an independent woman phir woh kaise ramnath se dar ke apne bete ko chod diya... Nirmala nanaji se baat kar sakti thi aur shravan ki custody le sakti thi... As a mother usse custody mil jati lekin usne aisa kuch nahi kiya... She choose her self respect over her son's future and happiness

And she could have easily found many friends but she chose to keep a tab over the lost one as Shravan did likewise. But, a mother cannot ever forget her own son...in fact, Nirmala was pushed by Sumo to renew her contact with her son...Really, is that a good sign? Am not very sure

Its not wrong to keep tab on a person whom we're missing... I meant to say while Niru moved ahead in her life leaving her hubby & son, they couldn't do the same and are left with many wounds and insecurities... Niru comes out as a stronger character where she easily moved on with a new son (but if we think otherwise, did she try to see her own son in Adi and so never felt like missing Shravan)... I might be wrong but I trust motherly instincts, I believe something so bad must have happened with her that she on a whole decided to never look back

Amulya, I disagree that on the whole something bad happened and hence she never decided to look back. She never tried to explain the matter to her son who if you remember did immediately say to his father that you must have had a fight with her and thats why she left. He was sensitive and mature for his age. Even when years alter they meet again at Sumo's insistence, Shravan's love for his mother was overwhelming which reduced all his anger into ashes...He knew marriages could fail but not a mother's love for her son.
And lets say something did happen during the last ten years...but, even once Nirmala while happily feeding Adi with biryani and counselling him never thinks about that absent son...never thinks that it was not his fault that he lost a mother. Never thinks once also that the man who manipulated her might also manipulate her own son...I am not sure if I can like this woman...
As a woman also I really cannot say that she did a right thing..she was accused by her own husband of having committing adultery and then manipulated into accepting his demands and she never thought of clearing her name...because she wanted a certain image of her to be maintained intact...Reputation is maintained by one's actions and her actions only show her as a weak woman.
She should have fought for her own integrity and for her son. As a mother if she found her own son in Adi and never felt like missing Shravan ...I can only pity her..
And the fact that in spite of having lost his mother on such disastrous circumstances ...Shravan values both Chachi as a mother and Adi's invisible mom...goes to show the character of this man. Also, it was Shravan who fought for Sumo's dead mother...
So, yeah as a mother her role weakens absolutely
