Okay...is it just me...or does the show need to delineate how the marriage 'gifts' from the girl's side and the demands made from the boy's side is just a euphemism for dowry.

It irks me that no one...not even Suman or Shravan...who are much more progressive than the other characters, is raising this issue.

I am not looking to a Television fictional programme being a moral crusader or one that seeks to transform society...but a subliminal message that dowry is unacceptable would do.

I am aware that this is a sad reality in our society that persists even today...but when you're breaking ground through fiction in a regressive TV scene with a self-reliant, fiercely independent female protagonist...and a male protagonist, who despite being a self-confessed misogynist, enthusiastically supports his ladylove's career and her ambitions...why not this?

And I can't get over what simpering idiots PreeKar are. Not expecting them to be the harbingers of this message...but the infinitely superior and stronger protagonists Suman and Shravan would be a good vehicle to convey this message.

It truly irked me when sumo said she is applying for loan fir that dimwit's wedding... They completely destroyer pushkar's character for preekar... Ramnath and kamini were kike this from the begining but pushkar was definitely nor like this... Someibe pls tweet the writers and director about pushkar's character downfall...
He is a lawyer and must have heard a 100 stories of how hard it.is to get a girl.married...

Right? I mainlined the show last week and loved it so much that I caught up with it in 3 days. The lead characters are just beautiful. So stunning in their construction. For me, this show has the best male-female dynamic on Indian television.
But this PreeKar track is just jarring. Malhotras are demanding dowry from the Tiwaris. There are no two ways of looking at it. This is how dowry exists in today's times, in what Kamini is aptly calling 'demands'. I can't get beyond what it says about each and every one of the Malhotras that they are letting all this slide. Neither Pushkar nor Shravan seem remotely concerned about the whole issue, I can't figure out if it is a plothole or they are planning to do something about it. But with them showing the Tiwaris celebrating Suman's decision to drown herself in years of debt for just an ostentatious wedding...I can't figure out what they want us to make of this track.

Well said Amri! Thats why I was sooo off after that episode. I cannot believe that someone like Nanu... who supports Sumo to work and be independent actually said yes to all the demands.
What made him to not refuse the demands...!! Mami was the only soul who was practical... in that episode atleast!

Agree with every point u said...edkv was a different show...our female lead character is not doormat kinda character like in some other other serials...sumo always talk about self respect...for her self respect is above everything...can't believe that gal applied for loan just for preekars wedding...atleast sumo to mana kar sakta tha yeh gifts dene se 🥱

On my phone...unable to reply to all of you. Please forgive me:)
This is a major aberration in a show which I consider path breaking in terms of its depiction of the dynamic between the two protagonists...their negotiation of gender roles...their grappling with the intricacies of a relationship which involves a healthy give and take.

The fact that all this is depicted so casually and without comment bothers me. There's not even a murmur about it.

My feelings r same. I can understand Mami being okay bc she wants her daughter mrrd. But why Nanu, Sumo n Shra not saying anything about Kamini's demand. Don't the cvs get it they r glorifying dowry. Preekar toh r such Nikamee. Preeti usn't concern her whole family going debt to get her mrrd and Pushkar being a lawyer knowing about law is okay with dowry. This is sooo disgusting
