I believe at this instance it is the guilt because he could've saved her. Which he didn't. And because of him she is in trouble now. So that weight is more for him. Regarding love, it has always been there. And I guess, keeping the current situation in mind, he isn't able to openly admit that he loves her.

he doesnt want to acknowledge that he has feeling for someone who believes Nirmala and thinks his beloved dad has lied to him ...

so guilt it is .. guilt of not helping her , putting his ego before his sumo .. sumo losing her independence
