Rekha... my awesomeness🤗😊

Loved yesterday's episode and unfortunately, it was not because I can forget Macbeth and consider Macduff as hero, forget Hamlet and love Horatio, forget Michael Henchard and heap praises on Donald Farfrae. 😆😉 Ah! well...

Indrani...aaj toh tune rula diya...Mayor of Casterbridge!! 😭😭 So apt that you quote all these above...Character etchings...there is a reason why the study of literature is so greatly valued both as an analytical skill and an art...You draw so much from these that you pour into life and vice versa!!

Yesterday's episode was interesting for me, particularly, in the way it asked us to probe, question, interrogate, and reflect Truth. This show is fascinating in that four of its major characters are lawyers - Shrav, Push, Ram, and Nanu. And funnily, Sumo is associated with food... a life force, a basic necessity. Being lawyers all of them are asked to seek out truth and to comprehend the truth.

Its interesting that you make the connection about Lawyers and the probity angle. Brilliant Point. Lawyers "burdened" with the expectation of searching for truth. Indrani, today you reminded me of a quote "A lawyer will do anything to win a case, sometimes he will even tell the truth"😆😆 Ram is that kind for sure..😉

Yesterday, during Shrav and Pushku's interaction, being a lawyer meant completely opposite to being a friend. Yes, Push is both a friend and a lawyer... but, then he is merely a voice that only asked of Shrav to decode as to what constituted Truth. Pushkar turned out to be the conscience keeper of Shravan Malhotra, the voice he keeps on hearing when he has hurt her or misjudged her. Pushku is the manifestation of the dil vs dimaag debate that goes on in Shrav's head (Red and Rekha... your analysis is bang on).

A debate which was already raging in the mind of Shrav... his eye expressions and the fact that he was pacing in darkness (Namik's eyes, sorry, I digressed). His answer which seemed disappointing for most of the forum members is to look only for what is obvious. He did his duty, if he hadn't done someone else would have done so. As a lawyer, he followed the protocol. Truth was on the side of Berry (however much we dislike it😆) and he judiciously won the case for him. His opponent Mr. Chandan Sanyal was giving out leases on illegal property and he was made accountable for it.

This character trait of Shravan has been highlighted before as well, whether the time he took on a premeditated revenge on Sumo (She was wrong and so she should pay), or taking Urvashi for a joy ride (She was a selfish woman so I pay her in the same coin, an incident btw, most of us liked😆).

And yet, during the Urvashi episode, it was his father and again Pushku asking him to look beyond the obvious.

Its not that he has never looked beyond the obvious, case in point... Truth as once Shravan himself said to his alter-ego Pushkar in relation to Chachi incident that she did right from her point of view. It was he who understood the dichotomy of being Sumo and Suman, not Pushkar who has seen her grow as a person during these last ten years. It was he who went beyond the family politics to go and help Sumo during the Khosla incident. It was he who went ahead and gave a swing to Sumo not Pushku.❤️

it would seem the use of alter-ego is limited in yesterday's reaction to Shravan's inner voice asking the difficult questions, questions Shravan was pondering in the darkness before the room was lit by Pushkar's probing light. Pushkar and Shravan, as I said before merged into one in that exchange. Instead of the reflection in the mirror asking him these questions, Pushkar the ever vigilant younger brother makes in an appearance, as is his right. The importance is perhaps not in where Pushkar was or was not...by Sumo's side because Pushkar is not expected to be her side. The ascent is more on where Shravan was not by Sumo's side, while she built her business, brick by brick...an aspect that must kill Shravan within (though its complete impact is yet to be felt by him ) as was evident by that stricken face of Namik...Superb acting by Namik in those scenes as well as that frame. 👏

Truth is both singular/absolute as well there are Truth as seen from multiple lenses.

Shrav's truth is absolute in one regard... in relation to his father. His father for all purposes hasn't failed him (read... hasn't left him or been indifferent to him (Red, thank you😃)) and also, he believes that his father is an apostle of truth. He is not a liar, so when he hears the accusatory tone of Sumo... he goes ballistic. And note, he takes the blame on himself. His father is not wrong though he might be. Also, when he said get lost to Sumo... he was still confused. He hadn't heard his father accepting to Sumo that he has done it purposefully.

But, then as Pushku, the small voice of his conscience reminds him that as a lawyer/son he has won, but, he has failed as friend. Was it Pushkar who was reminding him that beyond the obvious, the visible there are other truths or was it his own voice which asked him to feel the difference? Like you, Rekha and Red, my answer is he was already in despair, trying to justify his own actions to himself and he was failing miserably. The dialogue between him and Push... what does it matter whether I did it knowingly or unknowingly was Shrav debating between his mind and heart... knowingly or unknowingly didn't matter...What mattered is that she has lost her passion because of him. He couldn't justify his actions and he was waging a losing battle. Trying to see the Truth that he had won and to feel it... but, he failed completely. He lost because he failed her as a friend... and what's worse, he couldn't say "get lost" to that image of him being responsible for her loss. No wonder, he was called a loser by Berry.

@underlined...when you turn the mirror...you realise that words that were spoken could have an alternative meaning. Which is why I would say, to forum members, please look beyond the obvious in the utterances. There is superb writing to be savored in these scenes. If you have accepted the characterisation of Shravan as a conflicted lover, the dissonance in his voice will also ring true.

Pushku's other dialogue to him... have you ever seen her cooking? And she only does it to get a positive feedback was so poignant. Shrav who had seen her cook numerous times as part of his deal to get her homework or just to be at her side (Push has seen Sumo as a professional, it is Shrav who has seen her love, her affection and passion during those childhood cooking sessions. He had first seen her cook her signature dish... Karela not Push) ... Feedback form which in earlier episodes brought a smile to his face because the form represented her presence, is now completely misunderstood or broken.

Missed this reference...lovely point Indrani!!

Push was no external character but, his inner voice asking him to revisit his actions... and he knew the answer already without Push trying to make it aware. No wonder as a man defeated, fallen into despair he was trying to validate his actions... but, all he could see was darkness. During the Khosla episode, Shravan had said, "Ki mujhe sasti cheez ka shuak nahin hain"... probably its time he realizes that all that glitter is not gold. Beyond the obvious, there are some truths worth fighting for. Sasti cheez does have some value...

Yesterday's episode had a wonderful parallel drawn between Sumo and Shravan. Sumo both in success and defeat was able to share her feelings with friends and family. Shravan couldn't even enjoy his success... defeat which has already started to make its presence felt shall be experienced in darkness and alone. Sumo's defeat was negated by the love and affection she got from her family and Shrav's success was belittled by none other than the six-footer himself, having to battle his own muddy thoughts... with no family to support him.

Sumo was only defeated by circumstances and the misreading of her situation by Shravan. And Nanu's advice to her was apt. That life can only enjoyed to its fullest when one faces grave circumstances. She will again rise

But, there was another dialogue by Nanu which did not refer to Sumo or to her situation. This was when he said that "only that person rise that fall". Sumo didn't fall, she was merely defeated. And as per by the law of probability, she can win again. But, there was one who had fallen and probably shall fall more. I guess we know who we are referring to...

And then only one option remains... to rise. It should be easier for him then, we do know how much he hates to choose...😉

Thank you Red and J for your wonderful insights. J, for your explanation of "get lost" and Red thank you so much for Pushkar's explanation. Love you two..🤗
