TS- Ek Ka Duje Ke Vaaste
CHAPTER 1: THE PAST.
Friendzoned.
The term brings with it a myriad emotion. To some it is a painful cliffhanger. To some it is a petty compensation for what could have been love. To some it is an indication that their future has a surprise in store for them. And to some it is an approach to eventually give way to love.
But for me it is redemption. Now there are two types of redemptions- the one which is a redemption of the soul and the other which is a redemption of a debt.
And I'm redeeming both.
Shravan won me the case against Khosla and I gave him the fees he wanted. It was on the 6th of May, 2016, at approximately 5:25 in the evening, when waiting for Shravan to come out of the shower, that I was crowned the most luckiest girl to live. Because that was the day that I by mere stroke of luck got to read the letter. The innocence of a sixteen year old Shravan who was willing to give up everything for a sixteen year old brat, his friend, was heart wrenching.
That moment made me internalise all his hurt, anger and pain. The extent to which he went for me. His sacrifices and most importantly his silent, omnipresent love. I realised what I had when I had his love.
His patient understanding, his steady presence and his firm support... All of it screamed love. How could I have been so unseeing and ignorant all this while?
To say that I'm in love with Shravan would be a humiliating understatement. I berate myself these days for laughing at those who used to tell me that the right kind of love consumes you entirely. Because now I've learnt that it does.
And then somehow I did not feel so disappointed with him just wanting to be friends, or for returning to London.
It's been over a year now since that fateful day. Over a year since he moved back to London. Nothing was said. I did not try to stop him and he did not expect me to stop him. And I don't regret anything.
Because it is my turn to give him all that he wishes for. All that he deserves. And I've never felt happier. Never felt more content.
We Skype at least thrice a month and text everyday. I even sent him homemade achar. And he gifted me an overcoat. He refused to tell me the brand but I knew it was really expensive. I told him that the jacket was too expensive a compensation for the achaar. But he shrugged it off saying I do not understand worth.
He was down with fever thrice during the year. Had a cold twice. He even got a sprain once in August- and I could not have troubled Eric any more.
Every night ends with a deep, meaningful talk with him and the day begins with bickering with him. I've never really felt as if he's not here with me. Just like I've never really felt the need for him to express his love.
His warm breaths stir me from sleep every morning. His smiles adorn me as I get ready for work. His adulation and concern keep me busy throughout the day. And his soft ramblings lull me to sleep.
On the work front I opened a second branch to my tiffin centre in Karolbaugh. We now cater to two schools in Delhi. And five corporate houses. I finally paid back my loan to Mamiji in mid October. Shravan said that this calls for a celebration so we did a gig to the song Lose Control on Skype. Though I could only watch his torso dancing. He even opened a bottle of champagne but then we fought because I did not want him to drink so early in the morning.
Ramnath uncle declared Pushkar as the heir to their firm Ramnath Malhotra & Associates. Shravan and Pushkar then decided to merge Shravan's London based firm and Pushkar's firm. So day after tomorrow is the opening of their merger- Malhotra & Associates.
So here I am driving with Pushkar to the airport to receive Shravan- with tears threatening to fall, feet willing to give away, hands shaking with anticipation, a heart ready to burst and arms waiting to engulf him.
