Part two
It was beyond time and yet she had work, which refused to get complete. A lone tear fell off her face. Didn't she deserve to live?
She looked up with an expression of complaint. Why was her life so?
And as if in response to this, the bell rang. She went to open it. It was Daboo, the genius. A ray of hope flickered back in her heart.
"Daboo... Woh mujhe bahar jaana hai... Aur", she started.
" Aur meri chudail Maa ne aapko naukrani bana diya?", he completed.
"Tumhe kaise pata?", she asked innocently.
" Mujhe kya, kisi buddhu ko bhi pata chal jaayega", he giggled. Sumo looked in the mirror. Half an hour of dressing... Down the drain! Grrr... This was annoying!
"Bohot nainsafi hai my lord!", Daboo announced. " Par yeh kanoon ka rakhvaala aisa nahi hone dega! Aap jayiye Sumo di, yeh Daboo dekh lega", he said in full confidence.
"Par Daboo..."
"Aap jayiye!"
OK, whatsoever it was ... She didn't mind it. After a short makeover, she rushed to her car. It was 4.20.
She checked her phone. 9 missed calls, 11 messages. Ohh damn! She was hell late!
"Call back karke kya karoon? Pata nahi woh vahan hoga yaa nahi... Chala gaya hoga... Sumo! You are a big idiot!"
Sumo raced through the streets as if in an Olympic race. Her desperation was on seventh heaven and she needed to reach asap.
In ten minutes, she was in CCD, frantically looking out for him. She checked every table, every person. She stared at all the faces seated but she couldn't find him.
"Ugghh... Pagal ladki! Ab kya karegi?"
She dropped her bag in dejection and heaved a sigh. He was gone. She had failed him once again.
"Late aane ki aadat Abhi bhi nahi gayi?", called someone.
Kya hua tera vaada woh kasam woh iraada
bhoolega dil jis din tumhe
woh din zindagi ka aakhri din hoga
Kya hua tera vaada woh kasam woh iraada
Bhoolega dil jis din tumhe
woh din zindagi ka aakri din hoga
Sumo's face lit up like a Diwali lamp. It was him undoubtedly! She could identify him even in millions of people. He was there! Tears started flowing as she turned around to find him standing right behind her! He had waited for her... Over an hour.
" Woh... I am sorry...", she babbled. But seriously, she was out of words for this.
"Mujhe laga tha tum itne saalon mein thodi si responsible Ho gayi hogi, par kuch log badalte hi nahi!", he said tauntingly.
Sumo's smile turned into a slight frown.
When through both of them this flashback flashed. They remembered how even years before she had made him wait for over six hours in hot Sun, waiting to give her her homework book.
Sumo was feeling terrible. And ashamed too!
" Ab finally AA hi gayi Ho toh baithein?", Shravan asked. Sumo sheepishly followed him to the table and they sat.
"Tum seriously Kabhi time par nahi Ho sakti?", he asked.
" Shravan ka baccha, ab Ho gaya late toh chodega nahi... Kya kahun ise?", she thought.
"Oye...!", he waved his hand in front of her, " Kahan kho gayi?"
"Areee woh tumne yahan kisliye bulaaya tha?", she brought up the important topic, and changed the present one too.
Shravan's face turned soft as a smile appeared. From his pocket, he tenderly removed a baali.
Sumo looked puzzled for a while, but after a few seconds she realised it. Her face turned so bright as she started smiling happily. She extended her hand to grab that baali but Shravan swerved it back.
" Ruko! Pehle bataoon tumhe yaad hai?"
Flashback
At the Farewell Party
Shravan had been waiting at the entrance for quite sometime now. It was a couple entry so obviously he was waiting for his Sumo so that they could go in. But he would have waited even if it wasn't a couple entry. He knew that she was never on time... But atleast today... Atleast today she should have been here. Even her cell was unreachable. As he was about to try it for the fifteenth time, he saw her approaching from at a distance. Dressed in a pink flowing gown, his Sumo was looking adorable today!
She saw him too and smiled at him.
"Aree, tum Abhi yahi Ho, Andar gaye nahi?", she asked.
" Pagal Sumo, Phirse Bhool gayi ki couple entry hai, yeh ladki bhi naa!", he thought.
As he was about to hold her hand and take her inside, a tall handsome boy appeared from nowhere. He politely asked for her hand and she readily gave in.
Shravan was just too shocked to respond.
"Aise kya dekh rahe Ho? Ohh... Main toh milvana hi Bhool gayi. Isse mil, yeh hai Rocky, my partner for today."
Shravan felt as if his world crashed in front of him. His Sumo... With this ugly Rocky. Sumo walked past him, ignoring his tears.
Kya hua tera vaada woh kasam woh iraada
bhoolega dil jis din tumhe
woh din zindagi ka aakhri din hoga
Kya hua tera vaada woh kasam woh iraada
Bhoolega dil jis din tumhe
woh din zindagi ka aakri din hoga
As she was on the gate, she tripped on her gown, but balanced herself. She moved ahead , into the Hall, but failed to notice that one of her earring had dropped. Shravan saw it and went ahead and picked it up. He remembered Sumo telling him that it was her mother's jewellery. And today she had dropped it so casually. He picked it up and left home while Sumo couldn't find that piece ever. Shravan had left for London, the very next day.
Yaad hai mujhko tune kaha tha
Tumse nahi ruthenge kabhi
Dil ki tarah se haath mile hain
Kaise bhala chootengey kabhi
Meri baahon mein beeti har shaam
bewafa yeh bhi kya yaad nahin
Flashback ends
"Yaad hai...", Sumo said heavily and softly.
" Ab bhi naaraaz Ho?", she asked. "Naraaz nahi Hoon... Par yeh kissa hamesha yaad Rahega".
O kehne waaley mujhko farebi
Kaun farebi hai yeh bata
Woh jisne gham liya pyaar ke khaatir
yah jisne pyaar ko bech diya
Nasha daulat ka aisa bhi kya
ke tujhe kuch bhi yaad nahi
Kya hua tera vaada woh kasam woh iraada
bhoolega dil jis din tumhe
woh din zindagi ka aakhri din hoga
Kya hua tera waada woh kasam woh iraada
Sumo was touched. Every time she met him, she saw his new face. The first time they met, he failed to recognise her. The second time, he gave her a gift and invitation. The third time he insulted her in front of a crowd of hundred people. Then, helped her repaying her greedy Maami. Refused to take her jewellery and called it cheap. Helped her again in saving her house. Cherished all her memories, even the faint ones and he had safely kept a small thing like this all this while. Who was he?...
Sumo was about to take it back when her phone rang.
She received the call, but Shravan snatched it.
" Pehle toh late Aayi, ab phone disturb kar raha hai", he said.
He was about to tell the person on the other end but heard sharp, rough voices.
"Suman ki bacchi! Aise kaise kaam chodkar chali gayi? Samajhti kya hai Tu? Daboo ko bol diya ke Preeti se kaam karva Lena? Aisa bhi koi Karta hai bhala? Manaa tune bahar naa jakar Bartan maanje, kapde dhoye par phir bhi!"
Shravan had heard it all, inspite of the resistance from Sumo. His heart felt heavy. Kaam? That too in such a harsh manner? It was so unfair! Then he realised that Pushkar had told him Sumo wasn't that Sumo whom he knew, her life had changed. He had underestimated those talks but now he knew it all. Sumo lived with hungry monsters who treated her like a servant. And yet till now he didn't know of it. He knew nothing about her.
Sumo took back her phone and earring too. She felt that she couldn't match her eyesight with him. All the time she was looking elsewhere.
They kept talking of trivial things. When it was around 5, Sumo got up to leave. Still, she couldn't look into his eyes, as she always did.
"Ab jaana chahiye. Thank you for the earring. Maa Ki thi.", she said.
Shravan knew she was returning back into her gloomy house. Yet, she wasn't hesitant. That was the new Sumo.
He dropped her till her car and saw her leaving.
He recalled instances how she was a big kaamchor, how she ran away from her homework. And now, this Sumo was so different.
" I'll have to know her all over again, and how did she change. "
"I'll have to know this new Shravan, all over again.", thought Sumo as she drove back home.
The End
I hope you all like it
