Well, who does not think if not for Zanjeer and Don, we would not be talking about Amitabh Bachchan in the same league as Al Capone-sque Robert De Niro in "The Untouchables" or Don Vito Corleone-sque Marlon Brando in "The Godfather"?
Every actor worth his salt has to have at least one career-defining role to herald him into the annals of history with iconoclastic status. What differentiates a great actor from an also-ran actor is this status symbol, where an actor is known for a character or a role that defines his stature as a superstar.
If it's the Batman that sets apart Christian Bale or the Joker that one can only associate with Jack Nicholson, it's truly said that one can't think of anyone else for that role, no matter that someone else can reprise that role in "n" number of remakes a la Shah Rukh Khan in the Don franchisee of Excel Farhan Akhtar Entertainment, but nothing can take away the honor and the stature from the original. Imitations or carbon copies are mere grand gestures that pay accolades to the original and are no patch on them (excepting in a few exceptions that we will talk about in another article).
Career-defining roles are such that it's really tough for one to emulate that particular actor or even for that actor to replicate the same association or success with another role.
So, does Television pop up such insanely popular iconoclastic career-defining roles for an actor, from which their career leapfrogs to an altogether new dimension?
Pitch in with your thoughts if you think in general such a scenario applies to Television and with specific reference to Ek Boond Ishq, is as to you think, Mrityunjay being Viraf Phiroz Patel's career-defining role or Rudra Pratap/Kalavathi being Viswajeet Pradhan's career-defining moment, or if Tara is the beehive of Chhavi Pandey's career's peak.
Keep watching Ek Boond Ishq for more such memorabilia.
