||BROKEN ANGEL||
||CHAPTER 2||
||GONE GIRL||
"I said that's enough Nandu. I don't want to talk about it anymore. You've betrayed me Nandu. And I...I misunderstood Radhika. The only person in my life who truly cared for me. She was right. You threw me into darkness. I never chose this path but you compelled me to do so. I was blinded by your drama. You were so much obsessed with your revenge that you didn't even think about me for once Nandu? Now I doubt if you ever truly considered me your brother..."
Nandini looked at her brother- tears brimming his eyes, seething. No, there was more. His eyes were red due to anger and pain- pain of being betrayed. Nandini wanted badly to speak but couldn't find words. Her tears denied to stop and for the first time she really thought that it was her defeat. She had lost the battle of her life. After all, the one and only person whom she could call as her own- her brother hated her now. So much that he didn't wish to see her face anym. She realised that she was to much obsessed with her revenge. It blinded her to the extent that she forgot what actually mattered. That she shouldn't have cared about anything else as long as she had her brother by her side. But this revenge, this damn revenge ruined everything. Her brother who used to love her more than his life- he hated her now.
Nandini finally gathered strength to speak
"Arjun I..."
"Don't Nandu. Just don't. Leave please. Leave me alone!"
Nandini nodded
"I will leave Arjun. Your sister is not
a good person. I am a looser. Just a looser. I hope you and Radhika live happily together. I know you don't need my blessings but...but I wish you all the best. Be happy."
"Leave leave leave!"
Nandini let the tears flow as she left the room while Arjun dashed on the couch.
********************************
"Hello Sir..."
"Rohit, any news?"
"No Sir. I'm afraid we've not been able to get any clue so far. I think it's going to be hard to trace her down."
"Listen, do anything! Anything! Just..."
"Sir please calm down. I can understand that you're worried but trust me I'm trying my best. I promise I'll leave no stone unturned to find out what has happened to Radhika ma'am. Trust me on this."
"Thanks Rohit. I'm sorry for being impatient. I'm just hell stressed right now. I just need to make sure that she is fine."
"I can understand sir. For now the only thing I can do is to request you to keep faith and patience."
"Thanks Rohit."
Arjun cut the call and went to the huge balcony of his penthouse. The breathtaking view of the city's dazzling lights couldn't amaze him. His mind was totally clouded by worry for Radhika.
It was nearly midnight and Miss Theron was still waiting for Arjun to ask for his dinner. Finally she decided to ask Arjun herself.
"Mr. Mehra?"
"Oh! Miss Theron. What is it? And I told you to call me Arjun. It doesn't suit you to call me Mr. Mehra. You are much older than me and you are more like a mother to me."
"I know Arjun. Then why don't you tell your mother what is bothering you dear? I know you are worried. What is it?"
"It's nothing Miss Theron."
"You call me your mother and you
are lying to me? I've been staying with you for nearly 7 years now dear. I can easily say how you are feeling by a mere glance of you. Is it Radhika?"
Arjun gave a fade smile. He knew there was no way he was going to hide anything from Miss Theron. This 56 year old lady was one of the closest persons in his life who took care of not only his house but also provided Arjun with the love of a mother. She was not a mere caretaker of his penthouse. Arjun always treated
her like his mother. He was a very introvert person and he never shared his worries but she'll always get a hint if something was wrong. And Arjun would be compelled to share his feelings and though he denied but he used to feel relieved whenever he did so. He knew that Miss Theron was aware of his closeness with Radhika. There were days when he would at times see the two chatting over coffee whenever Radhika used to come over to have a discussion over plans.
Arjun sighed in frustration. He ran his fingers through his hair and took in a long breath closing his eyes.
"I can't find her. She's gone. I don't know where. I just hope she's fine."
"Don't worry dear. She'll be ok. I'm sure you'll be able to find her. And she'll soon come back in your life."
"I don't deserve her. After what I've done, she shouldn't forgive me at any cost."
"People make mistakes dear. We are mere human beings. It's normal for us to make mistakes. And you know what the best part is? You've realised your mistake and you are regretting over it. That's what you should do. You've learned from your mistake. And now you have the chance to fix it, to make things right."
"I just want her safe and alright. I don't care if she ever forgives me or not. I don't care if she hates me throughout her life. I don't care if I'm the person whom she hates the most on the planet. I just want to know that she is fine and happy. I just want her to be happy."
"And she will be. You both will be. Cause you both deserve happiness. And you deserve each other. You two belong to each other."
"I don't know. Not knowing about her is killing me every moment."
"Everything will be fine. Now just come and have dinner ok? It's already late for having supper."
"I am not hungry I...you should have dinner. It's really late."
"Do you want to trouble this old lady falling sick? Come on! Don't take out your frustration on food! Besides Radhik will not like it when she'll come back and see you in a distressed state."
"Let her be angry and come and hit me. I just want her to come back."
"She'll come back. Now let's go. I'll serve dinner on the table."
**********************************
"Radhika where are you?"
"Arjun I'm here."
"I can't see you Radhika. Where are you?"
"Radhika! Radhika! Radhika!"
"Arjun!"
Arjun looked around desperately as Radhika's voice faded away. Fog
surrounded him completely...
"Radhika!!!"
Arjun sat up on his bed with a jerk- breathing heavily and sweating profusely. He tried to calm down as the traces of the nightmare still haunted him. He opened his bedside table's drawer and took out a photo frame. It was a photo of Radhika smiling with a coffee cup in her hand. A smirk played through Arjun's lips as he remembered how he had taken this photo secretly by his DSLR while she was chatting with Miss Theron. Suddenly his face darkened again and he looked at the photo with an intense gaze
"Radhika wherever you are, I just want you to know that I don't hesitate anymore to tell you..."
Arjun took in a long breath as he continued
"I love you Radhika. I won't suppress my feelings anymore. I've come out of my shell which you always wanted. I won't let the demons take me over ever again. I promise."
Arjun sighed deeply as he renewed his firm determination to find his 'gone girl'.
[FLASHBACK]
"Sir! Sir! Sir!"
"What is it Radhika? Please don't shout ok! You are giving me a headache!"
"I'm sorry Sir. I have talked to Mr.
Wilson..."
"Radhika, don't you understand a simple thing that I'm not the one you're going to discuss these silly matters with? Don't you dare coming to me with these excuses again. Or I'll make sure that you're fired Miss Mishra!"
"But sir!..."
Radhika stood startled in front of Arjun's cabin as she realised that he had just shut the door on her face. Soon anger took over her
"Mr. Rude!"
Arjun was engrossed with his laptop when someone placed a coffee cup on his desk. He looked up to find Radhika standing with a smile
"If you think that your so called 'sweet' gesture is going to melt my anger, then you are very much mistaken Miss Mishra."
Radhika's smile faded and as soon as Arjun concentrated back on the screen, Radhika glared at him.
"You are very childish and stubborn Miss Mishra. if you are done with throwing daggers at me, will you please keep those files away from my desk?"
Radhika sighed in frustration and amger. This man really knew how to get on her nerves. She took the files from the desk and literally threw them inside the cabinet
"Whoa! Watch it stupid girl! That's not your private property. If you do any harm then I'll make you pay Miss tiny little blockhead!"
"Did he just call me blockhead and stupid! How dare he!"
Radhika tried hard to not blow up her head with her fiery anger.
"And if you are done, would you mind passing the coffee cup?"
"Yes sir!"
Radhika snapped at him and suddenly she found it hard to suppress her laugh as her naughty bubbly mind gave her a childish idea. She took the cup and carefully started to put sugar cubes- one, two, three... she stopped counting. And finally when she was contented, she stirred the coffee- mixing the sugar- adding an all new 'amazing' taste?!
Radhika picked up the coffee cup- smiling ear to ear and held it up towards Arjun. He looked at her confused and gave her the usual irked expression. Radhika again smiled sweetly
"I should get back to work. Have a nice day sir."
She walked towards the door, opened it and then stopped and turned around
"Oh! And enjoy your coffee sir!"
Arjun could easily notice the naughty sparkle in her eyes. He could tell she was upto something silly again. He kept on staring at her as he took a small sip of his coffee and not necessary to say, he soon spat it out on his desk
"What the...?!"
Radhika laughed on her way back to her cabin as she heard the shocked voice of her 'rude' boss.
[PRESENT]
"Neil?"
"Arjun, I won't give you any false hopes buddy. This is a very rare case and the chances of her recovery is very less- nearly nil."
"Whatever"
"Arjun you need to accept the truth!"
"Just let me be ok! Leave me alone Neil. It's ok if you can't do anything. I am enough for her. I will heal her. I know how to take care of my wife. She will be fine soon. Just... just leave... now..."
Neil desperately wanted to hug his friend and console him and tell him that everything was going to be fine. That he just needed to have faith. He badly wished that he could give him hope. But he knew it was not possible. That would only keep Arjun away from the cruel reality. And he didn't want his friend to live with a lie, a false hope.
