Mala's husband is as dominating as Saral. She has bullied all her life by her hubby too. From the looks of it, the attitude for women is that their place is in the house, in the kitchen. There were several times we could see that she feared her husband.
Points to her hubby is that his bark is worse than his bite... He knows, where to draw the line... I presume. At the same time I have my doubts coz Mala never raised her voice when Saral was manhandling Radhika... Hence leading me to believe that she too may have experienced such violence in her relationship... Thus she is conditioned into accepting this as normal.

In the name of family "Honor" , many women sacrifice, their dreams and happiness, they are ready to endure anything for the very same "honor" and that's been passed down generations after generations, but it has to change at some point of time in the flow, so why not Mala ??

She is the same Mala who put her foot down and wanted Radhika back in Hrishikesh, when her dad and dadaji wanted to let Radhika to stay and pursue her career in Mumbai, it's not that Mala doesn't have an opinion of her or she isn't assertive, she was !!.

Her character right from the start was always shown timid when it comes to her husband. But eventually when it came to "protect" her daughter from the evils of society in Mumbai, she put her foot down. but ironically now she wants Radhu, to accept Saral who is the not the right guy, so in a way "honor" of the family is placed above the suffering of their daughter, it's sad but it's there, the thought is imbibed in every mom (mostly girl's mom) not just in Radhika's mom Mala
If her dad was in Mala's place today, he would right away make a decision and break off the relation between saral and Radhika after seeing Saral's other side, the thing is again, decision maker, which a dad is and a mom isn't as mom and wife she is liable to answer her husband, but as a dad and husband,he is not liable to answer anyone, hence the freedom of decision making is more for a dad than a mom.

These are very intricate things, based on situations, emotions, so i don't think i should say it's right or wrong, i would say she did what any mom in her place would do.

Nice topic for discussion Erika :)

@bold: I want this to happen. There was only one mother I really applauded in the TV shows and she was Kalindi. She told her daughter to divorce her husband as he was harassing her. The other shows have mothers like Mala for whom the family's respect is more important.

@blue: Yeah it's true. She knows that for her daughter, her dreams are more important. Her daughter cried before Saral to let her work for 5 months but when she told that she wants to resign, Mala just wiped her tears and left. She isn't strong enough to support her daughter instead of her son-in-laws egoistic demans.

kalindi from ipk ebp???
jyoti also got remarried i liked it
many ppl r like mala who care more abt society than child dreams
not only abt marriage few ppl dont even allow their child to take up different field as career like chef fashion designer model owing to society n izzat
this doesnt make mala a bad mother but ya she is not strong thats it
i seriously want cvs to show that..mala supporting rads in her aspirations
