Love is in the air The monsoons bring a deluge of rain sequences on TV shows. Almost all the channels are making the most of the rains to highlight the romantic angle in the shows

Dosti...Yaariyan...Manmarzian', the lead actors Radhika and Arjun also romanced in the rain in an episode that was aired last week.

Explaining the significance of rains in a TV show, actor Aham Sharma, who plays Arjun in 'Dosti...Yaariyan...Manmarzian', says, "Rains carry with them an element of romance and that's what films and TV cash in on. In a show it creates more drama than usual, which keeps the viewer hooked to the screen."

With the onset of monsoons in the country, it makes sense to have rain sequences on TV too, opines Ravindra Gautam, who has directed shows like 'Bade Achhe Lagte Hain'. "Basically, it's the flavour of the month. Jaise aam ke mausam mein hi aam ka mazaa le sakte hain, waise hi baarish ke mausam mein baarish dikhaani chahiye," says he and adds, "Rains are a slightly romantic time, and even in real life, people go out on drives, chai peete hain, soft romantic numbers sunte hain, baarish mein bheegte hain. So, when we show all this in on screen too, it just adds to the flavour of that season. The viewer relates to it."

Rains are synonymous with romance, reiterates director Gorky M of Humsafars. "Rains highlight the feelings of longing, sensuality and show the true nature of the characters," says Gorky, who shot for a rainy romantic scene in Lucknow last year for his show. "A rain sequence which has a girl drenched in rain, with her clothes clinging to her, brings out her vulnaribility, her innocence and at the same time enhances her sensuality. And the hero, who may otherwise be shown as a tough harsh guy, is likely to melt at the sight of a girl shivering in the rain. So rains are also used to lay bare the true face of the characters of the show," says he.

Rain sequences also help break the monotony of shooting indoors, points out Ravindra Gautam. "It's a very smart move to incorporate a rain sequence, so even if it's raining, and we have to shoot in the outdoors, we don't have to stop. Hum track mein ek rain sequence incorporate kar dete hain," says Gautam, whose had rain sequences in almost all his shows.
